Life / Poles - the Nation of Liars? [478]

MMM, Just reading this forum has given me second thoughts about living there, but maybe my experience will be a little different as I have a Polish wife, or maybe worse, who knows. Anyway I intend to give it a go shortly, I just need to sort out a business plan and premises for a pub, get a licence, fictures and fittings and go...

I'll keep you;s posted on how I get on, and in the meantime if anyone has any info as to Alcohol Licensing & Costs, please come back to me, or with anything that may well be of use to me..

Thanks
Marcus

Work / What Jobs are there in Poland for an Englishman besides teaching english? [70]

I've even tried asking in pubs and restaurants as I'm willing to work for crap money just to have something to do but nobody wants a foreigner working in their establishment, in fact many people get annoyed that you're trying to take jobs away from Poles.

Where do you live Buddy? I am opening a pub resturant in Opole area, if you live near.. you can have a job come October 2008. :-)

Life / The Polish Wedding - What is it Like in Poland? [338]

I am curious however... these weddings go on for days, but do people go home and then come back and party some more or does it last continually for 2 days? Sounds like a lot of fun.

Hi ( Learning), Generally people go home for a few hours if they are not living too far away or stay with friends and relatives in the area, however I had people from Ireland, Scotland, England and Holland as well as people from all over Poland so we rented the hotel where the reception was held for four nights. It sounds expensive but If I had had a similar wedding in Ireland, well I would have been paying it off for a number of years. If you are ever invited to a Polish wedding, you must go, you are guaranteed a fantastic few days and a hell of a hangover afterwards. BTW everything is paid for by the Bride and Groom or the parents depending on each persons situation, therefore drinks, food and accommodation are FREE.. sound good?

Travel / Visiting Poland - A bit worried about social attitudes and racist inclinations.. [80]

We had a girl from Siri Lanka at our last Polish bike club party , she had a great time , and nobody said a wrong word to her.

I can't imagine Indian, Srilankan African women having many problems in Poland, Polish men do not discriminate against women because you can shag them, it's the men that seem to get the problems.

Seems to be a huge difference in attitude when a White man is with a Coloured woman V's a Coloured Man with White Girl.

Happens here in Ireland too.

Food / The most typical ingredient used in Polish cuisine [28]

Nothing wrong with Polish food, Great selection of soups, salads etc although I tend to add my own ingredients into some of the more traditional meals, Golobki, Pierogi, to liven them up a little, as these can be a little bland for me however i'm into spicy garlicy food.

Kielbasa and Kaszanka are great for barbecuing, along with the great variety of Polish beers and hot summers, your on a winner every time.

UK, Ireland / Why Poles will never belong in England [283]

There are plenty of Polish and other races who have been living in England since before, during and after the War. Are they not now British citizens?, I wonder where the original posters lineage comes from?

Point is, if you work, live and contribute to a country, you eventually become part of the bones and fabric of it. Lets not forget the group of Brits that dont really do any of us proud by refusing to work at all, hanging around drinking lager at 11 o clock collecting their benefits for their 'bad backs' and 10 kids while moaning that the 'poles took our jobs' whilst they have no intention of working any time soon. These people are the bunions of society, lazy dolite, uneducated scum who are running around the UK today distroying the businesses, homes and livelyhoods of those who work hard for a living.

If that's the type of people who you want in the UK then God help us all.
Personally, give me a hard working immigrant any day for a neighbour, no matter what nationality they are. :-)

With my Catholic Celt, Roman, Saxon, Angol, French, Scandanavian genes and the genes of my Slavic Catholic wife we have given birth to two super Catholic Celt, Roman, Saxon, Angol, French, Scandanavian, Slavic boys.

Same here, apart from mine are Girls.

ENGLISHMAN, I think that you and your likes are the cause of many of the troubles that the UK has today. Have you ever looked to see where you came from? tell us your second name and we might be able to help you there.

Listening to you would make any normal human being feel nauseated, you are a racist to the core and in this world today there is no room for the likes of you.

Real Estate / Building a house in Poland need advice from anyone that has built [100]

I know that this is a pretty old thread however. Is it normal to pay some money in advance of the build with the builder on signing a contract? Seemed a little strange to me and I was adamant that I wouldn't pay a penny, but have been told by some f my wife's family members that it is normal practice.

Thanks

Real Estate / Building a house in Poland need advice from anyone that has built [100]

Thanks Guys. The contract was signed today.. it was our own contract, so there were no funny clauses from the builder. My wife is Polish so there was no problems with communication. We will buy the materials ourselves, we have already sourced where we will get them after doing a couple of weeks research and various pricing quotations. We have our own building inspector too. The deposit which I now understand was in the event that we pull out of the contract, which is fair owing that the builder may not take on another job during the time set for our build. Build starts in June.. Many thanks :-)
