Life / Banners and slogans at soccer games in Poland [63]

do American fans use such amasing visuals???

No, they don`t. Actually, they are more interested in hot dogs and other snacks sold at the stadium than in the game and its results. I saw it with my own eyes when I attended a baseball match in NYC. The outing was organised by our university. Never had I attended a similarly boring sport event before. If not for hot dogs, it would have been a completely wasted time.

Life / Do you collect mushrooms in your country? Poles in Poland do. [94]

Amasing news about fly amanita mushroom known in Poland as red fly killer.
Every Pole and Poless know this species from kindergarten times coz kids always draw it in pics depicting autumn or a trip to the forest coz it looks so attractive.
Many people believe it is deadly poisonous but it isn`t true - it is mostly a psychodelic mushroom, in fact.
That is why the Polish authorities are planning to ban its sale on the net soon. That is why I said: amasing coz I had no idea such sale was going on.

UK, Ireland / English/British rudeness - what do Polish people think about it? [168]

British treatment of the Irish/of the Polish.

I am searching the net for info on rental signs like NO IRISH NO DOGS addressed at Polish migrants but can`t find any. Do you know of such cases???

If you don`t, does it mean the British have become less discriminatory over the years or Polish migrants were more amiable than the Irish??? Or is it simply that infamous political correctness which spread over the UK and Brits are still racists at heart???

So no, not often.

Yes, commonplace is often. You don`t know your English, it seems. :):):):)
commonplace
adjective
uk /ˈkɒm.ən.pleɪs/ us /ˈkɑː.mən.pleɪs/
happening often or often seen or experienced and so not considered to be special:

UK, Ireland / English/British rudeness - what do Polish people think about it? [168]

You see??? If I didn`t mention British discrimination of the Irish, I would never learn this fact from you. Thanks. It reminds me of the communist times when the police called militia was also endowed with the right of prosecution in minor cases. Amasing that Brits were so close to communist methods.

or wg6 you think it's relevant to here.

It is extremely relevant. I have ventured on seeking certain correlations between the British treatment of the Irish in distant past like 50 years ago and their today`s treatment of the Polish.

Do you mean what I know now???

I hope you do. So stop asking infantile questions. :):):)

Food / What exactly is Polish Bread? [91]

GMO

How does it affect the taste of bread?
Sometimes a colleague in one of my schools brings traditional country bread for everybody to try. It tastes delicious.
Do you suggest this bread could be even more delicious???

not one for a Pole

And yet I am dealing with the issue coz I love such stories from the past. Ha!!!

Englishman towards the Irish is a friendly one

Of course! :):):) Who denies it??? Owners are very friendly with their dogs, too. :):):)

the British police and unfairly prosecuted for minor offences.

Irish men were prosecuted for indecent exposure if they were caught urinating outdoors on their way home from the pub on a Saturday night. The police chose to charge the men under the criminal code which came with a mandatory prison sentence.

Sorry, i am happily married, so no, thanks. hahahaha

The signs were all handwritten," he says, recalling his search for accommodation on arrival.

Not only landlords/ladies had a problem with the Irish but the British police, too

Recalling wider examples of anti-Irish discrimination, Hurley described how Irish people were targeted by the British police and unfairly prosecuted for minor offences.

UK, Ireland / English/British rudeness - what do Polish people think about it? [168]

Often?

According to a lot of Irish natives who came to the UK looking for a better life, quite.

irishtimes.com/ireland/social-affairs/2024/05/06/no-irish-no-blacks-no-dogs-irish-times-readers-recall-encountering-notorious-signs-in-britain/

Signs reading "No Irish, No Blacks, No Dogs" were "commonplace in London in the 1950s", according to Patrick W Hurley, who arrived in the English capital from Waterford in 1955. "The common form of advertising was a plain postcard held in place by a drawing pin in a glass-fronted box on the wall or stuck with Sellotape on the inside of the window. The signs were all handwritten," he says, recalling his search for accommodation on arrival.

English/British rudeness - what do Polish people think about it?

Still, Poles and Polesses shouldn`t complain about British rudeness coz the Irish were in a much worse situation. Rude Brits viewed the Irish with extreme prejudice, on par with dogs.
British landlors/ladies often displayed the sigh: no Irish no blacks no dogs.

Life / News on driving in Poland [57]

driver feared that he had hit

That was extremely dangerous. He could have died!
Of a heart attack.

They do it much better in Ireland. They drop coffins with bodies inside from helicopters onto fields in the countryside. A lot safer.

the Irish coast at a moderate speed and enjoy

Goddess bless the English for their decent education they brought to Ireland in the past cos it gave amasing effects. Under wise English reign and leadership, the Irish became useful for society.
Also, Goddess bless the Irish for being such obedient students who dilligently learnt from wise and civilised educators.

And in Poland?? We had lousy educators like imperial Russians and were lousy students who refused to learn.

Kania, you have just learnt that you are a useless driver.
It is recommended that you dump your car and start walking more. For the safety of all of us. Especially the Irish in Poland. hahahaha

Food / What exactly is Polish Bread? [91]

What exactly is Polish Bread?

Kołacz or kolach is a kind of bread. I like the one with cottage cheese sweet filling. I already ate them as a child in communist times. When I am tired of regular bread suppers, I order tkolach from myself as a nice diversion.

- he also steals other objects.

Actually, it can be everything which he is able to carry in his mouth. For example, tiny potatoes from the potato bucket. Or my walnuts drying on the radiator. My bean pods.
He thinks it is great fun when he steals an item from me and brings it to my wife`s room hoping she will play throw and fetch with him.

Life / What do Poles really think about cats? [470]

Devil would make an excellent cat for a feline therapy clinic coz he is so sociable with humans. He thrives on close contact with them no matter if they are strangers or family.
He is the only one of all our cats in the history of the family who never winces or backs away when I kiss him. He even moves forward to touch my nose with his.

Life / The climate for gardening in Poland [340]

When it comes to fruit.
As for veg,

This one is a pain coz botanically a veg is sold as fruit in shops.
Kiwano or African cucumber.
I planted my own 3 seedlings which were half dried due to excessive sun exposure and I was sure they wouldn`t survive in the ground. But they fekking did and produced excellent crop.
