News / Poland's post-election political scene [4080]

Poor Greggy. You seem to be rather scared of PO, no doubt because a crushing win in 2018's local elections will set them up nicely for eliminating PiS in 2019 and setting the scene for Tusk's return to dethrone Duda in 2020.

I don't see any particular relation of your revelations to PiS other that they assert that Poland needs to defend her interest and that is true.

If that was true, why would they appoint a 20 year old boy in a senior position in the Ministry of Defence?

I'd want experienced old hands in the job that spoke Russian, English and German fluently and who had a military background, not some friend of Duda's daughter.

Genealogy / What are common Polish character traits? [425]

I was observing Kaczyński, his bulging eyes, shining with unhealthy excitement and creepy smile during the discussion about the Constitutional Tribunal in the parliament

His thirst for absolute power is not exactly a huge secret, although some people are now behaving like "WE DIDN'T VOTE FOR THIS!!!" in a rather amusing way. It's not like we didn't tell everyone...

Spoken like a true Platfus! The greatest civilian air tragedy in Polish hsitory is a "petty political reason"?

Then investigate, and when there are solid reasons to charge Arabski with wrongdoing, recall him from Madrid, not before.

He has been kicked out of Poland's Madrid embassy

Do you realise how pathetic this makes Poland look?

In most ordinary countries, ambassadors see out their stay. It's not good to simply replace them at the blink of an eye for petty political reasons. Let's say Obama leaves office and Trump wins - Paul Jones is going to remain there regardless in Warsaw.

Regardless of what someone cares to call it, under the law a pardon or clemency enables a person to hold every public office.

Indeed. No-one is disputing that.

But as Duda said in 2011, that person is still guilty.

If by 'funny' you mean "a tragic waste of time and resources that would better be spent on something else" then yes, it will be funnier and funnier.

That too. But it's pretty obvious that they can't actually produce any conclusion beyond going after minor civil servants, and so they'll drag it out for 4 years. Macierewicz, of course, will vanish in the 6 months before the election.

He hates the modern, more well off country that Poland is becoming and can't stand the idea of Poland not being invaded or occupied by somebody.

I would argue that it's not just Macierewicz - Kaczyński and a lot of PiS supporters seem to want the same thing. Wish I could understand it.

He...he...insulted Kaczyński!

Personally, this whole Smolensk thing is going to be funnier and funnier as time goes on. I predict that we'll see some Stalinist show trials towards a couple of minor civil servants, but there won't be any resolution before 2019.

In reality Tusk holds an electoral record of eleven wins and two losses.

Indeed. It's quite conceivable that Tusk will come back in 2020 to send Duda packing.

Life / Moving to Poland and not drinking vodka [27]

or problem with future girlfriend's family, etc.

Could be a significant problem. From your other post, you're looking for a "family-orientated" girl, which means that her family will be very traditional. That means the father-in-law is likely to be able to knock back a serious amount of vodka, and you'll be expected to hang with him.

Definitely yes. As Duda said in 2011, a person pardoned is still a criminal in the eyes of the law. As he has a doctorate in law, I trust his opinion.

The latest pardon (after the election) is just dropping the bogus accusations

If they are "bogus", then why not allow the legal process to take the natural course?

The pardon confirms that Kamiński is a criminal.

And to think that people from PiS were insulting Jagna Marczułajtis-Walczak for being too young.

Must admit though, the headlines just write themselves. A 20 year old without even a degree advising the Minister of Defence?

How does your statement gel with the clear willingness of the 'President' of Poland to issue blank pardons to anybody his boss tells him to issue them to?

Yes, I wonder how his statement reconciles with the criminal at the heart of the PiS government.

It seems to me that it's just an old Soviet tactic - when someone points out your crimes, you just shout loudly about everyone else. "Western Betrayal" was a textbook example in Poland and Czechoslovakia.

trivialities

You honestly think that having a convicted criminal running Poland's secret services is a "triviality"?

Feedback / Is it Polish forum or foreign forum? [159]

I will always take you on, you can use any tactic you want but you will never be rid of me.

I imagine the "ban stick" tactic will get rid of you if you keep posting this twaddle.

I will not let foreigners make mockery of out my country.

You don't have to let them, we will mock your country if we want to.

What is most disgusting but not too surprising is that many Polish here are trying to hold on to that famous Polish hospitality and will kill a fellow Polish comrade just to avoid offending a foreigner.

Are we really talking about Ironside and Ziemowit here?

I do not want this derogatory term used on Polish forum, full stop.

An official complaint? Is that where you write a letter to the Admin, telling him that you strongly protest about the usage of a word on the forum? I'd pay to see his face when he sees it. Poles are Poles, end of story.

Bear in mind that PF has never censored people's expressions provided it wasn't a personal attack, so you won't find any favour there.

So you want to know how we do or do not feel about Duda's opinions on a PiS member who may or may not be a criminal. At least the president isn't a criminal.

The PiS member is very much a criminal - as Duda made clear, the pardon means that guilt is confirmed. PiS therefore have a criminal at the heart of their government.

How do you feel about former president Komorowski (who I'm sure you like) stealing all this stuff from Belweder?

Nothing to do with PiS and crime.

There is plenty of crime in using taxpayer's cash to earn cash privately.

Anyway, how do you feel about Duda's strong feelings about Kamiński being a criminal?

It gets better and better every day :D

"Pardoned persons have been found guilty by the courts. Pardon is not an acquittal. The act of pardon does not change the verdict and does not undermine their conviction". Who said so? Andrzej Duda, in 2011. Four years later he pardoned the former head of the Central Anticorruption Bureau Mariusz Kaminski.

wiadomosci.gazeta.pl/wiadomosci/1,114871,19228100,ulaskawia-sie-osoby-uznane-przez-sady-za-winne-akt-laski-nie.html#Czolka3Img

So there we have it. Duda feels that Kamiński is a criminal, too. I mean, the facts aren't in doubt, but still, it's nice to see that Duda agrees with us on the matter.

Law / Buying a USED CAR in Poland, my personal experiences and TRAPS to avoid !! [133]

Noooooooooooooooo.

I despise them - they cause people to sit watching the speedo rather than the road, and they also don't take into account real world conditions such as having to overtake the muppet doing 35km/h in a 50km/h.

I possibly got caught by one in Austria in summer, but no fine ever came through.

Delph I am new to the forum and not familiar with Polska B could you explain that for me?

It's basically a term used to describe the poorer eastern provinces as opposed to the wealthier northern/western ones. Podlasie, Podkarpackie, Świętokrzyskie and Lubelskie are usually the ones included, with the rest being a matter of debate. It's also a way to describe conservative leaning provinces as opposed to liberal learning ones.

Some of the roads in Dolnoslaskie are horrific, agreed. I don't know what it's like now, but the DK36 from Rawicz to Lubin was in a shocking state a couple of years ago. Likewise, the DK35 from the Czech border to Swidnica is also in very, very poor shape.

It's odd, because many roads in "Polska B" are in fantastic shape, not only the DK roads.

word of honour still means much

In Poland, absolutely not. Word of honour means nothing. A friend puts it well - he's done business for millions of Euro in Ireland on a handshake, but he wouldn't do business in Poland for 2zł on a handshake.

ability to overcome sudden and unexpected issues

Wouldn't agree with this either. They tend to run away at the sign of trouble, or blame everyone but themselves.

hospitality

Oh, definitely. They score very, very high for this. Seems to be a general Slavic thing though - which makes it all the weirder that they're not very good at customer service. You'd think with their generous hospitality, they would be fantastic with customers.

I'm just amazed that you're doing everything to deflect from the fact that PiS have appointed a man that lost his driving licence twice to head up the road transport division.
