Life / Do you think that Polish people are rude? [951]

You may have a point, bullfrog. I haven't seen enough of Poland to say definitively but I'd conjecture that it isn't a norm. Don't mistake genuine gallantry for wanting to get into pants ;)

Quite regularly encounter what attitude, bullfrog?

In Scotland, it is quite normal to hold the door open for a woman with a pram.

It's like they have the best of intentions to perform those 'norms' but don't actually perform those actions enough to constitute a norm. The downside of Polish romanticism, i.e self-delusion.

I imagine it to be the case in much of Eastern Poland too, Wrocław. All these imagined norms are grossly blown up. I just dislike blanket statements but I do see a fair bit of kindness and camaraderie here.

Kiss a woman's hand? I've never seen that and if I tried it myself, I'd get a slap ;)

Offer to carry your heavy bags? Haven't seen that either.

Give seats to pregnant women? I'd hope so as that's just common decency.

I've only once seen sb give up their seat to an old person in a tram.

What's wrong with needing an invoice? It provides a security to them and gives purpose to a transaction. It's sometimes hard to return goods in Scotland. In places like Argos maybe not but in some other shops, yes.

Your friend should have gone to the changing room and tried it on first. I can't believe such a shop wouldn't have one.

Then you need to hold people to account, LK. Don't let them pass the buck if they are responsible.

So yes, some Poles are rude (queuing is often skipped altogether in Żabka) and the customer service varies. I've never had much of a problem in various places when getting service.

History / What do Poles owe to Germans? [451]

So you feel that those words somehow filled a hole in the Polish language, pawian?

A very fun afternoon at the lake just outside the centre. Virtually no rudeness and fun was had by all. One prick tried to ruin it but everyone ignored him. The obnoxious git type.

So dour and miserable is rude?

So all those miserable musicians are rude or just allowing us to tap into emotions that are worth experiencing?

I told you, your wife will be onto you and putting you in the dark cellar again :) A bit like Andy Dufresne in the Shawshank Redemption :)

I know but I choose not to follow such logic. However, that's not a discussion for this thread.

Polish looks is the topic.

Food / Polish Pizza !! The best in the world? [330]

Was that what you signed at the border? Reason for stay? Pizza ;) ;) I can just imagine the look on the faces of those who work in administration here. Why do you want to extend your stay in Poland? Oh, because of the pizza :) :)

Well, not where I come from. Handsome is used for men IMHO. Yes, it can be used for women at a stretch but for airy-fairy types. As far as I am concerned, handsome is not for women but that's just me.

Do the French put Beajoulais on theirs? Probably not ;)

I've liked the pizza wherever I've been. I miss some of the Scottish places but the Polish ones are pretty much the same. In Japan they were good too.

DE may have a point but I find a pizza to be a wash (awash with flavour) of flavours without ketchup. Ketchup is fine on a margerita but nowt else.

Trolling? Pawian, you are talking about owing which operates on many levels and a maelstrom of complications are involved. It's centrally relevant what I'm saying. If sth is owed then there is a time and place for that. If you choose to see otherwise then you run the risk of delving into the ridiculous. The world owes Scotland a lot in that case for creating much of the modern world but do we expect anything? No, as we are advancing humanity in so doing.
