Life / Do you think that Polish people are rude? [951]

The Japanese are the same way with regards to face. The Japanese call it 'kao'. It stems from Confucianism, a Chinese philosophy.

I think the reason that Poles have grown not to ask 'jak się masz?', 'jak leci?' or 'jak tam u ciebie?' is that they don't have the half hour needed to listen to the reply ;)

News / US to deploy Patriot missiles to Poland [405]

Sorry Sokrates, I find many Poles to be biased on this issue. I liked watching the Georgian national team when they had super football players like Kinkladze, Kaladze and Ketsbaia, to name but 3. I also like some Russian things. I'm neutral.

Pretext? No, they acted and they left. The world was caught in its own opportunistic lie. No sarcasm there, sorry.

Exactly, what utter garbage!! Russia's invasion of Georgia? Excuse me, that was a set-up and Saakashvili attacked first. He badly miscalculated and this has been acknowledged by many commentators.

Aha, thanks. I didn't see it. The point is that cultural nuances distort things. I've known many Poles to be grateful and give thanks.

OK, let me put it a different way. When the Japanese conduct business, they look down at the floor and suck in air through their teeth. To us, this is rude but they are just thinking and feeling out the situation. Want more? OK, they slurp (siorbać) noodles in local Yoshinoyas. Very loudly too. To not slurp is not to express appreciation for the food. Also, to leave grains of rice is a sign of disrespect, that you haven't completely enjoyed your meal. They are simply different, not rude. There are many cultural faux-pas.

It is better to live as a grateful host, sometimes it is difficult, but tolerance cures that. There is something about some Poles that they think they are superior in some ways, it is up to us to just let that wash over. Many countries people are like that, Brits very much included.

I agree, being mannerly is not always so easy for those under stress. As I said, some are rude but many are thoroughly decent people.

Even if you encounter rudeness, you don't need to take it on. I've had some people try to skip the queue but the shopkeeper has ignored them and served me before them as I was first.

At least they don't shove people onto trains, LOL. Check this out,

I have respect for some of their mannerly ways but they too are fake and use polite language to mask something more vulgar. My Japanese friends agree with me too.

I hope Yoshi sees this, he will tell you how it is. Ask him about the Yamanote and Denentoshi lines, quite an experience. That's rudeness. That was the only occasion where I had to push somebody there. They usually keep their distance. My weight advantage was much needed.

Some are abrupt, yes, but they live under stressful conditions and quite a lot of negativity. Some Polish teachers are not keen on me because I have spark and dynamism. They wonder how I can get a class going and they think I should be more serious. Like I'm not :) It's a little rude to impose in such a fashion.

Life / Polish Organizational Skills [83]

It often seems that way but you must remember that they operate under excessively bureaucratic conditions and that's a hard slog.

Love / They seem nice, but could Polish girls be "gold diggers"? [196]

I think you are getting a clear message, apul. Just do the normal things, you know, take her out for lunch once in a while, buy her flowers when the time is right and just listen to some of the things she has to say.

Muniu would say most (all?) of the things she has to say but ok ;)

Love / English Men vs Polish Men [207]

How often have we heard about casual flings abroad? Many. The wife cannot always be there to satisfy the urge and drive of men, especially if they are overseas. Still, I find it wrong to cheat. I just wouldn't do it.

Why didn't you give it a trial run first, apul? You went the full hog too quickly. Some of them are self-piteous cretins who think that the world owes them a living.

Zero appreciation. I bet she is looking for the next instalment.

Geez, people are people. If people delude themselves that they are gonna always get their desired reaction to their actions, all power to them.

I was gonna put that expression down, lexi, but I thought I'd give sb else the chance to do so. My fiancee has helped me out immeasurably with Polish authorities. I just don't have the time to be piddling around with documents.

Sorry apul, you got a raw deal through being gullible, deal with it. It's often the little things in life that we value. Simplicity is genius. I bought 3 containers of bigos today with good bread and that will make my fiancee's day. She doesn't expect that much. I bought her chocolates also, good Ferrero Rondnoir's. That helps too, only 13PLN. No harm in buying flowers either. These are symbols, signs of love which should be followed up with REAL love.

I was a babysitter many years ago and actually told the guy to stop paying me far too much. I felt like he was using his money as power. I was only a student then so accepted a little more than the going rate per hour but I drew the line. Money was like paper to that guy, minted he was. I hate gold digging.

Shelley, I hear ya. You have a point but Brits had the motivation to work for a long time. Working conditions there are much better for the most part. Or were at least. Still, Poles have to instigate change from within, start demanding more. Equal pay for equal work n all that.

That was my point. If we assume Polish women to be equal to Western women, then why should Western women be able to receive more material goods and things than their Polish counterparts? I know Western women have more generally and my point was that that is not completely fair. It is natural for women here to go after money. Why? To make things add up better.

Thanks! There will always be gold diggers in almost every country, WB was right. Still, why shouldn't Polish women pursue this? Relative to their salaries, they don't have much spending power for the most part. Why should Western women have access to their material desires and Polish women not?

Now he is going to tell us that he didn't even get his end away, LOL.

Many women take what's on offer but many men don't realise how good they have it with some women. Polish women are very practical and are the pillar upon which many men build their success.

Sorry, you often have to give to get in this life. Just try and be aware of all the things that women do for you.

History / Can anyone from Poland tell me about Auschwitz and The Ghetto? [612]

You know John, I've had a Polish evening (too many drinks, LOL), so I'm gonna do the right thing and just say that America has profited from war too much for it to be passive. American intervention in WWII was a must. As you said, it became a superpower and used Vietnam to generate sick profits. It could ill afford to "sit things out" given the prevailing political climate.

Surely as early as Jan or Feb 1940, you could see what the Nazis were doing? Maybe you calculated that British and French resistance would last as long as 1941. This was a world issue, not a European issue. The Jews made it that way. Or do you consider Jews to be an exclusively European issue?

Geez, cunning American justifications. Choosing sides, what?? You'd even have contemplated a stint of Nazism?? What did Prescott invest SO MUCH money in? What was his purpose in investing such a vast sum, hope? Hope for what??

The British were NOT at war at this point, the funds arrived well before that. America didn't want a hand in shaping the world order?? Wow, that's a first.

Of course Hitler wanted to keep you guys out, look at how you tipped the balance. Did he want that? Tell me he did and I'll be sure you are knighted within the week. If the US couldn't see what was happening, they were even blinder than dumb Europe.

John, ... watch this and you will know what I am talking about. Look at part 4 of 15 for evidence that Prescott Bush was behind the funding.

I meant the 9/11 attacks. I could fill your inbox 100 times over with evidence that the American government knew that those attacks were gonna happen. Just watch the above link for starters.

For Rice and Bush to lie like they did, they should be imprisoned. Try 911truth.net for swathes of evidence on it.
