Life / 3 reasons why you hate Poland. [1049]

The never wrong attitude of a fair few here

The two-faced backstabbing of those that are oh-so friendly after a couple of drinks.

The desire to shake things up for the worse. Maybe Japan taught me that order and harmony are more important goals. The moaning is horrid.

Life / Do you think that Polish people are rude? [951]

It depends. Some of the old biddies can be. On the trip to the Balkans, they showed their selfish sides, always wanting to be first and not afraid to use their elbows. I've noticed that old folks are like that everywhere. Even in Japan where distance is preferred, they have a word called 'o-battalion' to describe those pushy old codgers in supermarkets who bump you. They even added 'o' to make it honorific (keigo in Japanese).

I've seen it less and less in Poland lately. That's not to say that it doesn't happen.

News / US to deploy Patriot missiles to Poland [405]

Well, I heard an interesting story today about a study done. It said that the Germans are much easier to manipulate than the Americans but I think we can safely say that 9/11 proved that wrong.

It was one of the clearest stuff-ups ever, they left trails of evidence everywhere but let's not go into that again.

Food / Where can I buy lamb in Poland? [89]

Stop spamming with things you know nothing about, McCoy! ;) ;) ;)

Lamb in Częstochowa? I'm not sure but,

Maybe contact ukpolska on this forum. He's a resourceful guy. Just ask around.

John, the evidence is overwhelmingly against an Iraqi connection. Why not admit it and say that it was just finishing the job that George W Bush snr started? Namely, killing Saddam. That would have been a good enough reason, getting rid of an evil dictator who was disliked by most. No, pride took over and another pretext needed to be found. Face it, it was a mistake not to take Saddam out before when he started his killing spree.

You also talk of UN Resolutions but they have no teeth. You base 2 MAJOR decisions on mandates, i.e 1948 creation of Israel and 2002/03 war with Iraq. Fair enough, following international law but you might want to check how many times Israel has breached them. They are not worth the paper they are written on, convenient when necessary and ignored when not.

Anyway, I'd like to see what Obama does with some of them. Bush made it very clear that he couldn't care less about the UN.

The Saudis fund terrorist groups and there is a lot of evidence on that. Dig deep enough and you will find it.

John, what Iraqi funds were passed to the hijackers? $100,000 was wired to Atta by Mahmoud Ahmed of your great friends, the Pakistani ISI. Well, former ISI director I should say. It's make believe to think that Saddam wired anything.

The great majority of people who know about what ACTUALLY happened on 9/11 were American officials and people in the shadows.

Yeah, mayonnaise especially. The more careful you are, the more you get clarted with it sometimes.

The cabbage is humungous. I know to ask for double cheese just to get any cheese at all. Otherwise, it's an unrequested cabbage burger.

You make it sound like that program on British tv ages ago. Tiswas? The one where they slammed pies and other food into people's faces. Maybe you have the Ted Striker (Airplace) syndrome, just with food rather than drink ;) ;)

When I get clarty and leave some food around my mouth, I just say that it's for later :)

I could use one right now. It's great start-me-up food. Extra cheese and some nice mushrooms. Sorry, sledz, I kinda like them. It doesn't figure as I used to hate them as a kid.

Food / Buying alcohol, wine in Poland. It's very difficult. [85]

I discovered a new wee shop in Gliwice today, just off the market square in fact. I picked up a bottle of Kleine Zalze from SA. It's a leading wine producer. I'm 48PLN out of pocket but that's exactly one hour's pay for me. It has a classy edge to it.

cedc.com/news/brand/stylish-and-sensual-carlo-rossi-for-womens-day]
this is an interesting little article connected with the popularity of this wine amongst Poles. I had a bottle of their red wine last night and it is SOOOOO soft. Mellifluous little notes, a top drop really! I think it was around the 30PLN mark and it is WELL worth the money. I'll be buying it again, that's for sure.

I'm moving away from Merlot a little. Carlo Rossi has a more drinkable quality to it. Lush in its ability to glide down the palate. Geez, I'm beginning to sound like one of those pompous twats that judge wine, oops! ;)

I need to go to the wine shop not 5 mins from here. I've heard good things about it.

Life / 3 reasons why you hate Poland. [1049]

Some of them are, some of them aren't. If I were to ever get closer to them, which thankfully won't be needed, I would likely find out that they are more conniving than I had thought.

Panienka and hfm, on averages I'd say yes but I see plenty happy faces on the go. You can also make a sad face happy and I ain't being rude here. I do it with my students, put out good energy and they may well respond.

Give me a country where the politicians are admired.

Yeah, many women wanna be pampered princesses and that's a turn off.

Language / Polish was chosen the HARDEST LANGUAGE in the world to learn... :D [1558]

Quite right, I don't use foul language. I'm watching a Polish hooligans video and these 'people' are pathetic. I hate people that say they are polyglots when they know one or 2 phrases in different languages.

I invested time and effort into learning Japanese and Polish but I'm not fully fluent in either

Well, the following sounds like sth naughty in English but it's innocent in Polish.

Młoda foka is young seal in Polish but could you imagine De Niro trying to pronounce this? ;)

Such a sweet mouth :) Nah, you can pick them up by using them in the right contexts but it takes a bit of practice.

I can't imagine Polish being the hardest language in the world. It only has 7 cases (some would say 6 now) and follows many set patterns. Yes, there are exceptions but most languages have.
