Love / Polish women are the most beautiful in the world! [1718]

751 is a super post by dnz. As applied to the majority of instances, I couldn't have put it better. He hit the nail right on the head!!

PGTX also made a really valid point.

I like to see the good sides of people and, in real life, rarely say a bad word about anyone but some women here could make a sauna freeze in an instant!!

Food / What is your favorite Polish Vodka? [653]

Well, they were 3 Polish shots, i.e 120-150ml's for 3. So, feeling ok. I got a good night's sleep so that helps :)

Early start tomorrow so none of that tonight.

Life / Do you think that Polish people are rude? [951]

What do you mean no sense of customer service? I find it very funny when Polish people say farewell and are looking in the opposite direction. Do widzenia is often like, 'yeah, about time, pi*s off would ye!'.

Probably Pan Tadeusz but Żołądkowa Bitter Herbs is really good. I've had 3 shots of it tonight and it's medicinal.

Work / Questions about teaching in Elblag or Opole? [23]

Opole is rather small but a great student city. It is home to Itaka so any trips that you take abroad through them will have their buses located there.

I had to travel up there from Gliwice, only 1 hour, to get the coach to the Balkans.

It's a good place to cycle around.

Study / Rumor about racism - will I be fine in Poland as a black International student from Africa? [245]

It is hard to say. Some act on their racism. OK, it's not like in the US where you enter a project. You are likely to get beaten there as they are more territorial. My American friends have told me all about it.

Poland is safer but you are definitely more at risk than I would be. Warsaw has its fair share of skinheads.

Generally though, you can expect some looks but people to leave you alone.

Hmm...I see your point but there is more racial tension in the UK. You can't deny that. I feel safer in Poland than I did in the UK. Scottish guys are forever fighting after beer. I guess the English are just as bad. The Welsh and NI are hardnuts too.

I haven't seen too much trouble here. I guess if you are in some bad parts of Warsaw, then maybe.

Love / What do Polish girls think about dating Asian guys? [134]

Yeah, exactly. Smash and grabs are quite common I've heard. Get just close enough to tap into the bank account, transfer the funds, and the only date that becomes symbolic is the date of fleeing :(

Language / Polish Swear Words [1242]

Kurwa nie wiesz? ;) ;)

Plenty clubbers use this nonsense when tanked up.

Life / Do you think that Polish people are rude? [951]

It comes from a lack of education and stereotypes, Yoshi. Some here have studied Japanese and have made a good fist of it. It's rude to throw out stereotypes of which you know little about in reality.

They are quite big on the skośny oczy here, or slanted eyes. It's big in the West in general. Quite sad really!

Life / 3 reasons why you hate Poland. [1049]

So are many cheats and thieves, Torq ;)

Nothing quite like politicians though, they are a breed unto themselves. (esp British ones)

Life / Do you think that Polish people are rude? [951]

Generally true but many Scots are just as upfront. Quite a few Poles I've met are quiet and shy so it really depends.

There are rude people everywhere too.

I'm aware of the cultural sensitivities here. I was responsible for showing new teachers round and giving them hints and tips and warning them of a faux-pas or 5.

True enough. I would see the point in a hate thread on Scotland but I wouldn't like it. Hate is just too strong a word and encourages venting.

Sorry, that was a tongue-in-cheek post. The Poles have little digs at the Scots so it works two ways. There is, in the main, a healthy respect between our 2 peoples.

It would seem to be common amongst some. I can only imagine how car crash claims are for insurance companies ;) ;)

If the evidence fails them, go to plan B or C:

B) What political party do you vote for?

C) What's your favourite vodka?

We always look for similarities in life and British judges are just as bad. I've heard some clangers about their decisions.

Life / Do you think that Polish people are rude? [951]

A woman in ZUS was a little rude today. My fiancee was handling the matter and I decided to slowly walk to the window. She told me that I wasn't allowed to do this and had to sit down. Wow, you have no freedom to walk to a window? Amazing!
