I think you're right. I think there is a Love-Hate relationship between Poles and Russians. Well I can't speak for the Russians or for people of Polish ancestry outside of the US, but here in the US I think Polish Americans genuinely respect Russians since they are Slavic like the Polish. Many Polish Americans are proud of being Slavic. But on the other hand, naturally Polish Americans didn't like past Soviet/Russian domination of Poland. But I generally don't know any Polish Americans that go out of there way to criticize the Russians. I think in general Slavic Americans get along better with each other in the US, then perhaps Slavic diaspora in other countries.

I think that's a decent analysis. No question Russia being the bigger and dominating country should have more of the burden of evening out its relationship with Poland. But what did Churchil say about Russia being a riddle in a puzzle or something like that? In other words its not easy evaluating Russia's intentions towards others.

The recent Polish crash tragedy and questions about the Russian government handling of it perhaps doesn't put Russia in the best light. On the other hand Russia, as far as its PEOPLE, deserve credit in my opinion, for showing sincere sympathy for the Polish people during the Polish Crash tragedy. You lose much credibility when you just casually say that the risk for saving Jews was equally big for everybody of all Nazi occupied countries. That's patently false. People who saved Jews in countries outside of Poland didn't have their families killed in front of them as additional punishment to the death sentence they got after just seeing their families killed by the Nazis.

I never heard any Poles "bragg" about Poland having more people that risked life and death to save Jews. Poles usually bring up what Poles did for Jews after being accused of being "anti-semtic" etc.

There was a world of difference between the Netherlands and Poland in WWII. Its was a lot more dangerous for Poles to save Jews in Poland then for Dutch people in the Netherlands to save Jews. The Dutch were at least Germanic so the Nazi Germans were more reluctant to find fault with them even if the Dutch resisted them somewhat. The Poles being Slavic and already hated for just that by the Nazis, were really hated when the Nazis found out that they were saving Jews.

According to Eli Rosenbaum of the Office of Special Investigations, the Nazis were shocked when they saw how many Poles were saving Jews (the Nazis thought the Poles were stupid for doing this) so THEN the Nazis mandated the policy of killing not only the Pole who tried to save a Jewish person, but ALSO his WHOLE FAMILY IN FRONT OF HIM before killing him.

You talk about pogroms by Poles against Jews in Poland AFTER WWII and saying how that can be seen as "giving Poles a bad image". (It was actually the anti-Polish media/New York Times giving the "bad image" of Poland by putting a MICROSCOPE on anything anti-semitic while FAILING to talk about all the good Poland has done for Jews) Since pogroms are a criminal act against Jews, WHY are the criminals (minority of Poland) being used to DEFINE Poland? Do you know Moscow knew about virtually all these pogroms against Jews before they started? Do you know it was in the Soviet Union's interest to have Jews and Poles against each other? Its amazing to me how some Jews look at these "pogroms" so simplistically and in generalizations. They look at these events within a generalization context that they wish others don't view them in.

Well there is good and bad in all groups so surely there are bad Poles who are anti-Jewish. But I just wonder if some of the Poles you claim to have "ingrained anti-Jewish bias" are REACTING to the anti-Polish bias of certain Jews?? Perhaps its a little like what came first, the chicken or the egg thing?

Just remember Jews would not be so stupid to CHOOSE to live in a country like Poland with its "ingrained anti-Jewish bias" for ONE THOUSAND YEARS. That would be either stupid, masochistic, crazy or a comnbination of the above.

I respect your effort Skysoulmate for trying to be fair to the Jewish people and defending them against perceived anti-Jewish bias from Poles and others. But I just hope there are Jewish "Skysoulmates" in Jewish forums defending Poles when the Polish-Haters in the Jewish forums are making likewise anti-Polish comments.
