Language / Dog Commands in Polish [49]

I didn't look (at work and posting in spare minutes and now travelling on a very bumpy road). Seek sounds a good possibility.

Do ye ken the old song: "Do ye ken John Peel". Plenty of hunting language and stuff about doggies, including the call "view halo" which is I suspect a forerunner of the telephone term "hello", that or connects to the word "hail/hele".

A nice song too. I have about half my roots in that region.

News / How will Polish-American relations change if Trump is elected president again? [636]

And missing the point as usual.

Missing it wider than a missile "fired" by one of Putler's drunks.

they are the same

Economically, largely yes, however one party favours developed government and building up a sort of welfare state and the other party believes that if someone¡s poor, then it's somehow their fault.

A Party of Prigs and Pontificators

I'm surprised you haven't joined. You could sign up with one of your fake social media profiles and perhaps help them at election time with telephone canvassing. Over Skype...

tbh I've only heard it used seriously in tv/movies

Same with me. Or seen it in a novel. I wonder what the etymology is.

Never heard this used by itself

I've never heard it at all. Is it American?

Maybe "Atak!"

I can't imagine telling a doggie to do that,.

the rules of Polish pronunciation

They're not too hard.

It sems like a lot of 'commands' for just one doggie.

You are older than I am and it shows.
Sorry old man

I'm almost tempted to post a photo here, however I can pass for 15 years younger very easily. And the last time someone tried to gues, they got it 19 years out.

Here's a tip (if you're male and part of the patriarchy). If you grow a big luxuriant moustache when you're younger, it makes you look older. If you grow one when you're older, it makes you look younger.

I won't suggest you try though who would rule out the possibility...

I don't " fixate"

Plenty do, sadly.

And don't start about my age.

It is a generational thing regarding those who are loudest on either side. Younger people seem to have other concens.

And you are older than me.

By a hair's breadth

Yes, so much loud noise drowns out the fact that most people are somewhere in the middle on the issue and don't think about it daily or hold strong opinions. Very much a generational thing.

In this case one could argue it's in the public interest

A finding by the Olympic Commitee would be (though not her specific medical details) however this is just gossip, allegedly obtained in a dodgy way. As far as I know, any procedures by the IOC are still ongoing and of course confidential.

However clickbait is clickbait.

So very desperate.

Yes, reporting confidential medical records allegedly obtained by a journalist is desperate. And proves nothing.

....even german media are reporting that

To rile up people like Roz and Novi who both fixate on trans issues. Very easy to do with people like that and drives up traffic to their website.

firstpost.com/s

According to your story, a journalist 'claims' to have secret and probably illegal access to her private medical records.

To be taken with a pinch of salt, and hardly worth mentioning.

..the media coverage in Germany is not normal.....don't we have our own problems?

Our media's been quite light about it. Mostly because most people dislike trumpet and the sort of people around him and are bored of hearing about them and partly because we have a new (and excellent for most people) budget and plenty of other stuff going on like Bonfire Night and the Bake Off.

Language / Help with female clergy titles or forms of address in polish? [54]

Scripture plainly states that women need to be in submission

And at the time they were written, that meant good order in society. No European with an IQ out of double figures thinks that today, nor should it be considered a rule for life.

It's all in the interpretation. Living, word for word, according to a set of instructions given to Iron Age Greek communities by their religious leader without thinking that the context we live in today differs from the lives of the intended recipients of those letters is just so upside down.

Now go forth and multiply, and don't forget to render a burnt offering at the holy of holies.

It is only MEN who are supposed to be part of clergy

Why?

Language / Help with female clergy titles or forms of address in polish? [54]

women were made in the image of men

Or the opposite.

This is why all proper churches, even heathen ones, don't have female priests.

Plenty do.

Proper religious instruction therefore can only proceed from God through men to women.

It 'proceeds' from people to people.

Wait until the Vatican III council which will institute female priests, probably canonize homosexuality, and proclaim that all religions are true.

That's meaningless. The Vatican Councils were years ago. And all religions have but a glimmer of the transcendent.

The rest of your post is equally bizarre. Jesus and His disciples would probably have given you a good kicking if you said that in front of them. That or shared some of their Clozapine with you.

I have been advocating it for decades.

Female clergy are quite normal when you get used to them.

While males never do - they prefer to remain humble and insignificant all their life! hahahaha

Indeed. And the few female clergy I've met have seemed very modest. Just like male clergy but (usually) with slightly longer hair.

Life / Fast Food missing in Poland [48]

It is kind of a dirty place,

More historic and popular with tourists. Nobody lives there, and yes, it feels a bit grubby. I wouldn't go to a Mexican restaurant there and am not surprised that one exists. A sort of "go to once" place for the tourist trade.

Yates' Wine Lodge does good pies and is mostly tourist free. The York Arms always had nice giant Yorkshire puddings but last time I went past, a few months ago, it was closed.

There used to be a really good Mexican by Rondo Wiatraczna. I think they had another place in Warsaw. Supposed to be more authentic.

Genealogy / Where to DNA test myself if I'm related to Doliwa? [5]

so I'm thinking if there's any way of finding out by using DNA testing?

Do one with, say, Ancestry.co.uk or one of the others (avoid 23andMe right now). It will bring up any relatives who've done the test as far as about 5th cousins. Beyond that, someone can't really be called a relative.

DNA tests aren't popular in Poland (and are illegal in France where there's a large diaspora community).though.

nobility

Do you mean nobility or szlachta?
