Off-Topic / A VERY CHRISTMASSY FORUM - IDEAS FOR CHRISTMAS THREADS [156]

True though; it's a place where there aren't so much neighbours as people who live too close.

Compared with Yorkshire where people on your street traditionally walk into your house without knocking, it's a breath of fresh air and something I quite like.

Years ago, I was once having it off with the milkman (seriously, it really was the milkman) very noisily on the hall floor. The kitchen door was slighty open. When we'd finished I found a Tupperware box with a Swiss Roll in and some charity raffle tickets on the kitchen table.

It's actually a nice gesture and as I say, brightens up someone's front parlour. Though in PL since nobody seems to like their neighbours and micro aggressions are almost a national sport, I'm surprised people don't do what we sometimes do to neighbours we don't like, sending them a particularly naff card or one from the Woolwooth's 1p rack.

That is why I chose Poland for my home country

Probably biology did that.

This rather wholesome looking young man is called Diugcello. He's Polish and plays popular songs on a cello. He also works with hip hop artistes.

Now, provide a 3 line summary of this blabber

An oldish book called "Uncle Setnakh's Letters to a Young Satanist" says it in one line, and has a few more tips besides. Worth reading and the author nowadays follows a less radical spiritual path. A very nice guy in fact, lives in Texas.

If he's trying to be witty it just comes across as verbose and somewhat jejeune and heavy.. He needs to be more sparing with prose and also include less of the political stuff which is a bore.

Strzelec, who used to post here, had a good prose style. Some of his stuff under an earlier username about the mean streets of Dąbrowa Górniczą were well written.

Food / Polish food vs Ukrainian food [31]

20% on average for domestic use. :):

Which is probably better than most places in PL. Plus of course there are still people in Ukraine who have a choice between growing food and starving.

big compani

That's the way of the world.

erroneous

Ot really since poverty there keeps some crops cleaner.

Poland has embraced chemicals in a big way, and of course UPFs have long been a part of the diet in PL.

It's just the same, Paw. It all comes from the same wholesalers and they all want to maximise crop yields.

matter. I hate the waste!

Me too however old people like them and poorer people's homes 60 years ago or less were very bare so the cards brought a little colour.

I still keep all those cards which American friends sent

Finding old ones written by dead loved ones is a nice thing. Seeing their name again.

A priest I know always keeps the cards he gets so he can compare the handwriting on them to that on the anonymous letters he gets, denouncing other parishioners or with mucky stuff about him from lady admirers.

have never sent any cards in my life

I was pleased when I came to Poland to see so few. They used to be a big thing in the U.K., and a nice way to decorate homes with them on a string or the posher ones on a mantelpiece.

There's also the 'round robin' letters which you either love or hate.

I won`t send cards

Not many people under 70 or in certain workplaces do that nowadays. A shame, since they brightened up homes.

If I started these threads in December would anybody post in them?

In a small way. Back in PL soon so things to do. A Christmas recipes page would be good, and I'd guess that some posters (and even more who read here but don't post) would like tips for particular flights between PL and their home countries which are less expensive than usual, any 'travel hacks'

Gift ideas are good too. Nice to get the shopping out of the way or you'll end up getting a Magic Tree and some windscreen fluid from the 24 hour garage at midnight on Christmas Eve.

And BTW, some branches of TK Maxx in Poland have Christmas crackers in stock this year. Assuming they haven't been snapped up,by people who heard about the, on the bush telegraph.

Life / Do colored immigrants in Poland function better than in Western countries? [291]

Those are certainly words, however put together they just mean nonsense. And add nothing to a discussion of Poland's steadily changing cultural make-up.

And no language school gets "shut down by the authorities" and nor do I live in North Africa. , whatever wrong impression you get from looking at adverts in private Facebook groups. Evidently accuracy is as alien to you as sanity or slimness.

You have a talent for getting the wrong end of the stick, as when you were arrested by the police in Illinois for making threatening phone calls to a Polish family that you mistakenly thought were Muslim.

Most people wouldn't make threatening phone calls to strangers, however if they did, they would use an anonymous way rather than Skype, however online is online.

And although you'd not see it in real life of course, being a long way away, Poland is becoming increasingly ethnically diverse: something that was historically always a characteristic.

You should probably avoid looking at dodgy websites like 'zero hedge'; they are bad for your mental health, such as it is and are never a suitable source to quote from.

It imports from wherever is cheapest; plenty of tomatoes from Dutch polytunnels.

it is also very organic. :):) E.g, I never

You might not, however farmers certainly do use plenty of chemicals.

Why don't you

It's clear that your much mentioned ignore list is just a fantasy.

Even one is one too many.

So one Teacher with extreme views that you found on a r*SSian fake news site somehowhas to be listened to, and the rest who are fine with the status quo are ignored.

You should maybe stick to issues in your own continent, not least since you've never been to Berlin and have no context about it other than what you read online.

Nor do you have a valid viewpoint on migration in Poland since you don't live in PL, aren't a citizen and don't speak the language. Migrants from around the world who've settled in Warsaw, speak the language and have taken citizenship (there are a few of us here) have more to say than someone who loves Poland so much they live thousands of miles away.

News / Presidential elections 2025 - the race has commenced!!! [665]

It's more interesting.. Polish politics is a circus.

I remember a few times hearing typical korpo office monkeys talking about minute details, more trivial than party members would gossip about elsewhere.

As long as Konfa perish and SLD do well, I don't much care.

born of frustration

A nice-ish song by James. About as near to rock as I'll go, and better than anything Polish.

good nationally, and hopefully he'll grow into

He has youth on his side, and rather a lot of ambition. Sikorski deserves a go first though.

If you want to avoid such questions, darling, correct mistakes in your quotes.
Verstehen???

If you want to avoid being called a drunken cúnt, don't behave with your elders and betters as if you were with a class of ten year olds. Tu comprends?

Millions in Ukraine grow their own food on their dachas.

Poland too, however there are more big supermarket chains in PL and more fruit and veg imported from polytunnels in the Netherlands.

Which uneducated loser doesn`t know how to spell the name of the President

Learn some manners.

And drink less before posting.

Sikorski used to forget about them as a Euro MP when liberal laws were passed in the EU.

Forget how?

camera friendly and glib Trzaszkowski

That's how it is nowadays.

more serious and experienced Sikorski.

My choice too; he has the credibility on the world stage and would be a safe and pragmatic pair of hands.
