Life / How are electric cars doing in Poland? [413]

@Marsupial

I doubt its for ethical reasons but rather the very risky nature of both the mining business and volatile commodity prices.. Especially coal which is attacked at all angles.

I guarantee you if you had a land mine company that was doing well they'd still give you a loan.

News / Poland has accepted over a million Ukrainian refugees. Why does the EU keep telling propaganda about Poland? [304]

Doubt it. They also advertise in local newspapers. I find it rather funny because typically you think of demonstrations as grass roots movements where people organize on their own accord. Yet capitalism proves that like anything, a protestor can be bought. A person will fight for an ideology they may not even believe in if they are compensated appropriately.

@Lyzko

That's because feminists egg them on and they're too lazy to do their own research. You are right though most workers can't do much aside from collect unemployment if they're fired. But as far as people not receiving what they're worth anymore id beg to differ. If you're a low education low skill worker why should you make the same as someone who's more skilled? A minimum wage for minimum skill only seems fair. Although I will agree the min wage is a bit too low to really be a living wage. I think 10 12 an hour would be fair but 15 no way. That's more than a department manager or even a secretary typically makes yet flipping a burger requires far less skill.

Also many of the people you see in demonstrations at least in the us are paid. Greenpeace and other organizations regularly advertise 'protesting jobs' on Craigslist.

@Lyzko

That's actually a huge fallacy and has been debunked due to not comparing apples to apples. If you compare a female ceos at xyz corp pay to a male ceos pay at xyz corp it'll be nearly identical" especially salary (as bonuses are performance based). However women in companies tend to take jobs such as p.r., h.r., marketing, book keeping, secretarial work etc which pay less than finance, law, it, etc. So of course a female cmo will make less than a male cfo. An hr director, a position with many females will also make far less than a sales director, a job occupied more typically by men. However a male nurse or doctoe and female nurse or doctor at the same hospital will get paid the same if they have the same amount of years of experience - same with corporate America. I worked for a company where we had some 200 customer service reps on the floor below mine and I know for a fact every man and woman there started at the same exact salary. If the gender gap studies compared the same types of jobs rather than a whole spectrum than it might be valid. However that was not their methodology.

If you're comparing the exact same job types at the same companies, no there is no statistically significant pay gap. These studies who claim that there is some huge pay gap are comparing average salaries across the board. They are typically conducted by feminists and purposely skew data by comparing, like your example, a senior level male executive to a female level executive rather than comparing a male vp at company abc to a vp at company abc. Or they will compare a bunch of jobs held by men to jobs held by women. Men get paid more simply because of the fields and jobs me!n typically chose. Even among blue collar jobs men dominate the high paying highly dangerous types jobs like fishing, construction, etc. Yet it would be erroneous to compare a fisherman's income with that of the fishing company's aecretary. If you make an apples to apples comparison you'll find no statistically significant wage gap. You just need to compare two of the same types of jobs at the same company.

News / Poland has accepted over a million Ukrainian refugees. Why does the EU keep telling propaganda about Poland? [304]

@Lyzko

True... But the new wave of migrants seem to be content with wandering the streets and living on the dole, not working. If they wanted to work they could have stayed in czechy were wages are good but welfare system is not. Hence they left. At least the Turks who came in the 70s 80s etc in germany tend to be assimilated and actually work. Its the same thing with Denmark - as soon as Denmark started cutting benefits and welfare the migrants flocked to sweden. If they wanted to work it wouldn't matter to them... But no... Even in interviews with migrants they clearly say they want welfare money for cigs food and even to send to their family back in Syria!

Even if these new migrants do work most the jobs they take are working in stores or some sort of trade. They sell t shirts sodas etc in some stand or work in a kebab place... If they're actually working. A popular job for Pali migrants is to buy a 6 or 12 pack of beer and sell individual beers to tourists beach goers etc. A guy can barely support himself with a job like that let alone the 5 or more kids they tend to have. Of course the wives tend not to work as well. The Muslims who have been here for awhile do work but these new migrants seem to be content with receiving welfare

Also while your example may be true for low skill very low wage jobs its not for highly educated highly skilled people who tend to earn roughly the same regardless of where there from. In the us Mexicans dominate work like at McDonald's Amazon warehouses landscaping etc because they don't have the education or skills to get a better job. Companies pay you according to what your worth.

News / Poland has accepted over a million Ukrainian refugees. Why does the EU keep telling propaganda about Poland? [304]

@przyjacielPL

Exactly. Aside from Jordan and Lebanon which are far poorer than many other gulf states they aren't taking in their fair share by far. Yet no one is forcing them to take in migrants but they want to fine poland czechy and Hungary? This is utter lunacy! Actually trump is one of the few politicians who publicly said The gulf states should be the ones taking these migrants in. The Saudis cite security risks and who can blame them. Only the blind can't see what the migrant hordes have done to Germany France Sweden Belgium and anywhere they go. Most the migrants coming from m.e. are Sunni and not even the Saudis want em lol. They're smart enough to realize the outcome. Even turkey has now seen an uptick in terrorist attacks since the migrant crisis.

This isn't Poland's problem. We didn't cause any migrant crisis nor did we invite migrants like Merkel did. They're just mad because now they realize their mistake and want to spread it out. If the migrants were so great and wonderful, so hard working and such a benefit, they'd want to keep them in their own lands rather than criticize others for not taking them in. Germany or even uk didnt ask any other countries to spread around all the Romanian polish Lithuanian Indians Chinese etc that came in. Why? Because those groups tend to work and not live off welfare nor do they commit bombings mass shootings mass rapes nor do they march down the street screaming Germany go to hell, we want sharia!

We need to worry about our own citizens and their safety first and foremost. If a migrant wants to come to poland they will have to deal with a way different life than they would in germany or Sweden - little welfare, not being able to march down the street with poland go to hell or promote sharia law and courts, no one will listen to them when they say crosses on a church offend them, they'll be constantly monitored by police to ensure they're not planning an attack, they will not be able to form Muslim ghettos where even police are scared to go, they will not be able to grope, assault, or rape women, and if one of them messes with pole they will have an angry mob mess them up while the police watch - just like when the poles burned down that prince kebab restaurant and broke windows while the cops watched from the other side.

News / Poland has accepted over a million Ukrainian refugees. Why does the EU keep telling propaganda about Poland? [304]

@Erykm

Most of the jobs the ukranians take are ones poles don't care much for or the types of jobs low skill poles have taken abroad for better wages. The average polish engineer doctor lawyer cop machinist etc isn't too worried about a ukranian taking his or her job or even driving down wages for that type of work. However the low skill pole who works as a cleaning lady nanny construction laborer may feel threatened esp if they are still working in poland and haven't yet left to work such a job for a higher wage in the UK US etc. In my city many ukranians work on job sites as low skill laborers but this ultimately helps drive down costs for polish developers contractors etc who in turn can now make more profit when they sell or lease an office building, condo, warehouse etc.

This was a similar argument Americans made when Mexicans and Guatemalans were pouring over the border in droves. Omg there gonna take our jobs! Yeah if your a low wage landscaper agricultural worker etc perhaps.. Or you'll just have to not be lazy and become more competitive to not lose business. But if you're a farm owner or perhaps own a landscaping business or other type of business that employs low wage low skill workers you'd be jumping for joy.

If your statement were true then no American programmer could ever demand a 6 figure salary due to all the s. Asians that have flooded the market and are use to getting paid 10k a year back home. It all balances out though.

News / Poland has accepted over a million Ukrainian refugees. Why does the EU keep telling propaganda about Poland? [304]

@jon357

Literally every single ukranian in poland I met was employed just in low wage jobs. Also the ones not working tend to look for work as one can't survive on Poland's welfare and rightfully so. They'll give you enough for food so you don't starve but that's it. Unlike Germany which seems to reward unemployment of at least allows far too many people to take advantage of it.

If working was their goal than why did the Muslims from both pl and czechy specifically leave for germany which is known to have the most generous welfare program? No ones stupid about their true intentions. Czechy has far higher wages than Poland yet the Muslims left from their too. If they wanted to work they would have stayed and not gone specifically to the one European country known for generous welfare for migrants.

News / Poland has accepted over a million Ukrainian refugees. Why does the EU keep telling propaganda about Poland? [304]

@jon357

So why then did a million ukranians come to poland to work? Yet the Muslims that came didn't work and left to go to Germany for the welfare. So ukranians can work and make a life for themselves but others can't?

Muslims already had a goal in mind - welfare and the more the better. Working was not their goal that's why they left. On the other hand ukranians came for the purpose of working.

That's the difference between ukranians and Muslims. Also ukranians don't blow stuff up shoot at children at concerts drive ppl over with cars rape women or cause years of state of emergency

News / Poland has accepted over a million Ukrainian refugees. Why does the EU keep telling propaganda about Poland? [304]

Hahaha very few are radicalized? That must be the joke of the day...

Oh because all these people look so civil and calm... Not radical at all..

youtu.be/BPKqM-TV2i8
Notice the guy saying let Allah make orphans of their children and all the other migrants chanting Allah albar...and this is in france! You know that country that use to be amazing and very pretty but is now dangerous crime ridden and has trash all over the street and hundreds of muslim ghettos... Or atleastt that's how Frances capital is

youtu.be/Sirj6qNLAEU

Scary that there's millions of people in Europe like this.

66% of poles view Muslims unfavorably - that's reason enough to not have a massive amount of muslim migrants in poland. The majority has decided.

pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2017/05/26/muslims-and-islam-key-findings-in-the-u-s-and-around-the-world

86% of Muslims in Niger want sharia law..
84% of Muslims in Pakistan want sharia law
99% of Muslims in Afghanistan want sharia law...

Last time i checked sharia law calls for amputation for theft, stoning for adultery, ban on alcohol... Pretty radical and incompatible with our culture if you ask me.

These are the countries where these migrants come from... They want sharia law in their countries and now even in the UK Belgium Germany many of them march chanting UK go to hell with signs that say we want sharia... They've already been establishing sharia courts. I mean how crazy is that you go to a country and you don't like their courts so you establish your own. Utter lunacy.

And yet these western Europeans are so blind and let them in despite the terrorist attacks the sexual assaults the rapes the crimes the Muslim riots the 2 years of state of emergency in France..

Forget it not gonna happen in poland. We celebrate the battle of Vienna and the defeat of spreading Islam forcefully further north and will sooner pay fines and even separate from eu than become like France or Germany.

Hell yeah that's what I'm talking about.

@jon357
Not true many are radicalized well before they come here of after going to Syria to wage jihad and doing the same in Europe.

Joblessness lol? These people don't want to work! Proof of that lies with the fact that most the migrants that were resettled into poland and czechy instead of working fled to Germany because of the welfare.

Poland never had colonies in Africa and Asia. We didn't invite them over to Europe. No one wanted to help Italy and Greece so the Italians and Greeks washed their hands of the problem and let them go north since most didn't want to stay in germany.

Either way this doesn't concern us. We've accepted more than our fair share already.

Fort Poland!!!

@Marsupial

And no the jeep inline 4 liter is an amazing engine. That was the first car I ever brought and eventually turned it into an off-road car. I drove over 200k moles on it all over the us and only ditched it because I tipped it on its side. The Cherokee is garbage now but the wrangler and older cherokees are beasts especially in mud sand or snow. Far more reliable than land rovers for off-road. My friend has a discovery and a 100k d90 or p90 defender and I'm always fixing snapped rods and busted hoses for him because he deosnt know **** about cars

Thanks arch

Yeah here were limited to basically 3 4 electric cars of which only the tesla is popular here. We don't have any vw Audi electric cars here and the jap ones sell poorly. The BMW i8 (not sure if its electric or hybrid though but I think its full electric) I absolutely love. Right now I have grad school tuition to worry about perhaps when I'm done I can look for another toy for the driveway

We have free charging stations at some of the overpriced yuppie ultra modern condos n apartments as well as in front of certain grocery stores... But u can't just leave ur car there to charge for 6 hours..

Thanks for the article I'm going to check it out now..

In Ireland the cost of the car would be higher but with the tax credits, high cost of petrol, few chargers as you say would ve made it way more worth it than here esp if kept the car for a while

@johnny reb

Try $8k $10 plus for teslas at the dealer for a new battery... In older hybrids $3k $5k minimum.

Yes they have made people rich - especially the Chinese who bought a123 battery (one of largest battery makers for hybrids) after they bought it shortly after Obama dumped 750 mil into the program.. Realzikng that this was a too big too fa green program Obama and the U.S. bought it back.. The Chinese made hundreds of millions usd in profits for simply holding a company for 6 to 12 mo

I looked at tesla because I thought it'd help save me on my commute. After I added up the totals it wasn't worth it

Life / How are electric cars doing in Poland? [413]

@Atch

Now that's awesome because installing the home charger involves (at least in us) putting in a new 240 volt specialty outlet, running 2 or 6 gauge wire (depending how quick you want a full charge, the standard is decent though for daily commuting) new breaker box and all that was just too much - especially putting in 6 gauge wiring in the garage. If it was like in Ireland I would ve definitely bought the tesla. The cost and time of all the electrical work made it untenable. Id basically have to drive the tesla for 4 years just to recoup the investment in electrical. Plus gas is cheap here now again.

I ended up buying one of those like mercedes suv crossover things though. This was like 2 years ago or so. I don't like it very much it burns a ton of gas its not very comfortable and the big rims even though they're stock make the ride really stiff. I still usually drive my old caddilac sedan to get from place to place.

Life / How are electric cars doing in Poland? [413]

@Atch

Its culture and funds. There probably is no such program to reward hybrid electric etc drivers. In Poland in general people tend to buy turbodiesels and gas (some add lpg bc its available at every gas station) . hybrid vehicles are catching on though which means electric vehicles eventually will too. Right now they're a bit too pricey for the average polish driver.

Also if a polish guy is going to drop 70 80 grand on a car hed rather get one of the old german brands like Mercedes Porsche Audi and especially bmw now which many poles prefer. Or even American like jeep which is even more pricey than German cars bc of the import.
Dirk diggler

Life / How are electric cars doing in Poland? [413]

Itll take a while for fully electric cars to catch on in europe.

For one the cars are rather pricey and if you want a charger in your garage it can be even a $10k project depending on if you want the quick charge or the average one.. Either way it involves putting in new breakers running 6 to 2 Aug cables installing a 240 outlet among other things.. No small or cheap feat.

They're very popular in socal though

Law / Buying a USED CAR in Poland, my personal experiences and TRAPS to avoid !! [133]

Omg wow this dude in the first post is talking about checking thickness of a paint job with sensors lol. You can just check the frame, inside of doors, backs of panels ceiling liner etc as no paint job place bothers to repaint that. New paint always will have a different tons.

Be a man and drive the freaken car. Thats the best way to tell if its been in an accident. Carfax and vins won't tell you much unless its been reported to insurance. If you're in a fender bender and your corner mechanic or buddy or whoever fixes your car and you're paying out of pocket chances are no damage report will show up. Drive it at high speed see if it shakes makes noises and when you release the steering wheel see if it goes to one side (demand an alignment before purchase if you really like the car and then retest after alignment - if it still does it it have frame or suspension damage). Check the service records. Check the bottom. Check for rust. If the bottom is all scratched from daily driving and rusty but the car reads 60k km on the dash its b.s.

See if all 4 tires match, check service engine codes (cheap scanner costs 40 50 bucks)

You can also order cars from the dealer if you want a brand new car (rip off imo - get something a year or two old, gently used, maybe up to 16k km on the dash and do your research)

Love / Egyptian guy with Polish girl - is it normal? [18]

Maybe she just didn't want to have a long distance relationship

Also polish women value their independence much like any other European woman. When you try to confine her or try to like plan her future out it makes her crazy. You were most likely going out a year or two and you were exotic fling to her or a rebound, then you screwed up by falling in love w her talking w her about ur family and all this stuff and u scared her off. At least that's my theory...

Also you know very well that in Muslim society if a Muslim man wishes to marry a non Muslim she must convert. I don't know how traditional and religious your family is but to many egyptian families conversion would be a requirement for them to accept the bride and marriage.

There's a lot of hybrids I.e. Toyota auris especially. People seem to drive cars with either a small often turbocharged diesel or will run their car on lpg. Gas is ridiculously expensive in Poland. Its perhaps the only common everyday item that's pricier than in the us.

However as far as electric cars I haven't seen one yet in poland. Perhaps a few wealthy people have them but i haven't seen one yet. Tons of hybrids diesel and lpg though

Life / Polish-Canadian wanting to move to Poland - trying to start a new life, make friends, combat depression etc. [10]

I would highly recommend networking with some fellow poles and visit first. You don't want to jump right into such a big decision especially if you don't have the funds or prospects for work just yet. Be prepared to make a fraction of what Canadian jobs pay even with a bachelor's but then again many things are cheaper. I can give you the names of a few corporations that pay decent by polish standards in my city but never really looked outside of it and even then it was more out of curiosity.

Also private practice medicine in poland (outside of zus of course) is great from my experience in the sense that its cheap and the medicine is holistic. Not sure about psychiatric care but general practice and dental is great from my experience. Maybe they can help you get off the strong ssris and maois or find some more appropriate meds with less side effects.

I have my ups and downs too. Such is life. You find something that you enjoy and move on with your day to day responsibilities. For me it could be kayaking, travelling, riding the hog, going on a date, sparring at the gym, drinking at the clubs whatever. Find a few hobbies and people who are interested in them. Its a great way to meet people, network, make friends, meet a significant other, etc.
