Vulnerable groups need a lift

For that to owrk the vulnerable groups need to want a lift, which..... not all do.

If you don't treat people equally

Define that please... there's a lot of assumptions going on in that sentence.

I'm in favor of individuals being equal before the law.

But the idea that Gypsy culture is as valuable as Polish (or any other European majority) culture is laughable. It's aggressively clannish and against education and is essentially a parasitic culture that requires a host to thrive (I think Hassidic Jews are another, very different example of a non-self sufficient minority).

Yes there are some entertaining aspects but Gypsies have very narrow horizons and no high culture.

Life / Do colored immigrants in Poland function better than in Western countries? [295]

Are Mexicans not white?

A very large majority is mestizo (mixed white/amerindian, more amerindian), a minority is amerindian and an even smaller minority is white.

There are a few even smaller groups history has scattered there.

Mexican TV is incredibly not representative of how MexicAN people actually look.

King Vasyl's music?

In terms of gypsy music I'm more into Spain. The movie Vengo is great, not much of a story (family feud with a guy haunted by the death of his sister and trying to protect his disabled brother) but tons of different types of flamenco

youtube.com/watch?v=ViCVxYO8r0A

Also Romania, for a few years I listened to a fair amount of Manele (mix of folk, Turkish and pop elements) a genre with very prominent Gypsy participation.

Here's a nice example... (possibly a cover of a song from another country.... a very, very, very common phenomenon)

The woman was one of the biggest stars of the genre but also a tragic example of Gypsy disgenics.... she was apparently born with a tumor and in her mid twenties it did horrible things to her before killing her.

Also, note how Indian the guy looks...

Gypsies are natural-born thieves.

According to a professor (former jugoslav country) who had done linguistic and cultural research that's not entirely true.

Gypsies have castes (they do come from India after all) and some groups steal and some don't. So you need to know what group/caste you're dealing with. Some groups/castes are more dangerous though generally they're not that dangerous.

Interestingly even the musicians have castes so particular families specialize in violin or singing or some other instrument.

Medically they're walking disasters because of extensive inbreeding and many doctors more or less refuse to deal with them because of the weird syndromes they have.

wokesters' first, last and only example of the benefits of diversity is the variety of restaurants

Basically yes. No one really takes "other ways of knowing" seriously or appreciates the chaos of competing legal systems etc it all comes down to lunch options....

North Korea never claimed to be a democracy.

What is wrong with you? I mean you just spout any old nonsense....

It's in the _name_ of the place... the offical name of North Korea is "조선 민주주의 인민 공화국" (The Democratic People's Republic of Korea)

How does it feel to be wrong about everything?

shocked when I first lived in Warsaw

To some extent you're right. Forty-five years of the PRL destroyed most people's concern for anyone but themselves (inevitable result of enforced socialism/communism).

That's damage that takes decades to fix, not years, decades. It's started but it's slow. And the destruction was less in Poland than in some countries...

Also, Warsaw is the capital and very few capital cities are known for the caring nature of their inhabitants. Where I live there's been a big change over the years in how people relate to each other for the better. Not perfect, maybe not great but perceptibly better than it was which is what can realistically be hoped for.

Ironically, this is another reason for Poland to be very careful and restrictive of in-migration. Migration and diversity erode social trust and social capital. This doesn't mean closed borders but it does mean Poland has every reason to be very.... selective about who it lets in and when you're talking about large groups of people you don't have the luxury of looking at individuals, you have to look at national profiles.

fex...

Somalis - I can't think of a single place where they've done well, even the US has had trouble getting them beyond lower working class

Vietnamese - mostly do okay, in Poland they've historically assimilated well despite institutional indifference or hostility. there are problems of illegal activities but these are mostly kept inside the community

Sub-saharan Africans - 15 years ago they probably outperformed the Polish average (since a large majority were university students who stayed on after graduation). But without that filter.... not so necessary or needed or likely to make a good contribution.

Arabs - depends on a lot on the country, Syrians and Iraqis have traditionally done okay in Poland (again, university education was a filtering mechanism). There were a lot of Libyans at one point but they seem to have disappeared.

Latin Americans - also depends a _lot_ on the country. Hardly any in Poland, but in general Latin Americans kind of idolize Europe so they're more eager to fit in than say muslims (whose religion.... discourages close ties with infidels).

News / How will Poland be affected by WW3 which has now started [559]

Crimea seceded from Ukraine and asked Russia to join the Russian Federation

Even the architect of the 2014 invasion admits the 'referendum' was carried out at gunpoint and people didn't want to participate..... If you don't know who I'm referring to you're admitting your very uninformed.

How many Polish girls have been raped by Polish citizens?

There are enough violent Poles already... no need to import violent foreigners.... and no need to let them stay in the country. Deport immediately and let zimbabwe deal with him or put him in prison and deport immediately afterward.

Travel / Leaving baggage unattended in Chopin Airport [16]

evacuations at Okęcie

Several years ago my flight back to Okęcie was delayed due to a storm and the flight only arrived as most of the airport was deserted for the night (and I had missed the connecting flight home). Not long after leaving the 'rękaw' and inside the terminal part of the ceiling fell down and lights started flashing and there announcements about the need to leave the building....

I looked around and none of the employees still there were reacting at all and so i didn't either. I asked for information about the missed flight and they said a room was reserved at the hotel across the parking lot. I picked up luggage as usual and walked over to the hotel....

A very weird occurrence the lights and announcement were still going as I left the building (and everybody was still ignoring it....).

I told my friends to look for the baggage but they went to somewhere

So the real problem here is that your friends are crap..... I hope you give them holy h3ll for almost getting you fined. At the least you have something to hold over their heads.... "Hey... friends..... remember that time you almost got me arrested?"

News / The Political Circus of Poland [309]

They made a mess with these two MPs

They're no longer MP's that was annulled when they were convicted and a pardon doesn't change the verdict it just keeps them out of jail...

What I want to know is why PiS is going all in for these two convicted criminals?

They may be shoring up their aggressive and ill-informed base but they can't imagine this plays well with anyone else....

Another idea is they're sending a message: stay loyal and we won't abandon you when you get in trouble (to encourage other crooks in the party to not abandon ship).

Yes. Ignoring this is not in the OP's best interest (might get away with it if he never returns to Poland, but easier to formally refuse the inheritance).

WHAT I SAID

No. You said you just don't have to claim it. In reality it has to be refused (a bureaucratic process).

Law / Rejecting Inheritance [44]

An insane court in Poland does not mean sh*it.

You once more display your ignorance of Poland and things Polish.

Poland has a system of Civil Law rather than Common Law (like the UK,US).

Judges mostly don't make decisions in a Civil Law system, they look at the facts of the case, find the appropriate laws and apply them.

Under Polish law unless an heir refuses an inheritance they are liable for debts of the deceased (beyond the size of the estate).

I'm not defending the system, Polish inheritance law is a mess but the OP needs to work with that and not your misinformed and deranged fantasies.

Just be quiet about topics you are ignorant of (which is... all of them).

if I leave my baggage unattended

I think you misunderstood. She was probably telling you to not leave your baggage alone. But wasn't your friend with it? If so then it wasn't unattended.

Anyway none of that is a problem....

Law / Rejecting Inheritance [44]

Any advice for my issue?

I'm sorry for you loss and sorry to tell you that you're not likely to find any useful advice here.

If your aunt wants to help she might explain the problem to local authorities and see what suggestions they have (in Poland a lot of bureaucratic decisions are made locally in line with local interpretations of laws which are often.... not very clear).

If you do go in person to the consulate don't expect any sympathy or regret offered for how inaccessible and useless they've been. Any attitude on your part will just make things worse. You can always wait until everything's over and settled and then read them the riot act.

If you're not ever planning on going (back?) to Poland then just ignoring it all would have been an option at one point, not so sure about how long the reach of the law is now....

Food / Why Poles not like rice? [98]

so that it becomes loose when you lift the lid

This is not something that Asians want in rice, it's supposed to be sticky. I remember eating at a bar at work and there was Polish style rice on the plate. An Asan co-worker saw it and seemed repulsed by it.

My hack for rice (from NHK) is to soak it for about half an hour. Then boil twice as much water as dry rice then add the rice boil for a minute, stir well then reduce heat and cover and in 15 minutes it's done. Not loose but very edible.

Also re Polish people and rice. Many who visit the US for a limited time can't deal with American bread or potatoes and mostly eat rice instead. I've known three or four cases.

Food / Why Poles not like rice? [98]

What I don't like about rice in Poland is that now most people buy pre-portioned plastic bags that are boiled.

The rice is not great and I don't like the idea of eating something boiled with plastic....

I prefer the old cheap type imported from Vietnam or Pakistan that comes in paper bags.

yucky plastic bag rice....

English was all that was needed in the Netherlands!

For short visits certainly true. Apparently it ticks off the Dutch when foreigners are in the country for years and can't speak the local language (same goes for Scandinavia) Though they fail to see how they facilitate this attitude.

Aren't you the slightest bit curious about your global neighbors

He's a narcissist, they have no natural curiosity. It is what it is. Why continue to yap at him (giving him attention which he is interested in)?

t the OP asked about parallel texts rather than someone's eccentric ideas

Narcissists have to make everything about them and get lots of narcissistic supply (attention from others) it doesn't matter if it's positive or negative.... like small children. Narcissists actually remain small children inside which is why therapists refuse to work with them. They're actually incapable of personal growth or adult development.

Sad...
