Life / Racism in Poland - the future [558]

Arabs, Berbers or Tauregs to be specific.....

Mostly Beydane (white) Moors.

The Tuareg are usually black and there are hardly any rural Berbers. Most slavery happens far away from Tuareg or Berbers however there are some worrying issues with olive groves in the north. More modern slavery there, which of course exits in more developed countries too.

Islam has a slavery problem

Not especially, however the problem exists in less developed and remote parts of the world where Socialism doesn't really exist.
Mohammed had slaves so the practice can't be criticized on moral grounds

It can be and is. Jesus' family probably had them too, btw, as did Washington and Jefferson (who used to rape his slaves).

And, it's clear that residents of the Arabian peninsula think of foreign workers from Asia/Africa as slaves

Some of the worst offenders are white people living in the UAE.

Libya

The chaos of a revolution and two civil wars in a decade has caused problems in every area of life. Makes capitalism without restraint. The slave you read about was probably from Masalata where they allegedly use sub-saharans (mostly male Burkinabians) in the olive groves. I'd guess though that most Libyans have never seen a
Slave though many are descended from them.

History / Poland: Her heroes and her traitors [239]

According to them, Poland is to be PiS` or fallen

That's really what some of them think.

Fortunately Poland is more robust.

UK, Ireland / What do Polish people miss about Ireland when they come back to Poland? [26]

Voting on one or another political party is something different than the popular opinion of the populace.

It really isn't.

a general opinion prevalent among residents of those countries, not about the results of the last election.

The same thing.

Ireland didn't vote for the anti-immigration parties. The U.K. (where the popular is 15 times larger voted 4 candidates in out of 635 MPs.

I bet that being overrun is a very popular expression nowadays

Only among those who didn't do well at school or generally in life.

UK, Ireland / What English food would you serve a Pole? [172]

You'd not like North African breakfast them. Bean stew, tinned tuna and triangles of processed cheese. All washed down with Nescafé and condensed milk. Nasty.

Nor me but baked beans are very popular over here

Ore and more popular in PL. A lot of the shops have them now, mostly Uzk brands. I don't buy them.

The latter I'm afraid

I was always intrigued by it when I was a kid. We never bought it but a few markets stalls had it due to there being a lot of Scots in the town.,

It's a little different. Baked in a roll. Very much a regional dish however there's a difference between the Manchester kind, a type of wędliny, and the Lincolnshire kind, baked at home, and very herby.

The Polish word pasztet is a bit of a catch-all. Covering everything from Ardennes Pate, baked terrines right through to cheap and nasty potted meat in tubs.

humour, but facts

Not 'facts' however at least you spell humour correctly.

No and I am not going to. :):):)

You're missing out.

How about haslet?

Polish sausage

You're mixing sausage and sausages.

Besides, it was Polish pilots who saved your asses in 1940

It wasn't and you know it.

You're just trying to get a reaction. Like the shut-in Novichok but his stuff is a weak attempt at exorcising his demons by being vile whereas yours is just a Polish attempt at humour.

Have you tried Lincolnshire sausages?

Scots allowed the English to dominate them

Population figures and soil/land quality did that.

I remember someone saying something similar once. It was ironic since at the time, the PM was To y Blair from Edinburgh, the leader of the opposition was Cameron, a highland name and the leader of the LibDems was Menzies-Campbell from Glasgow.

You'd either love or hate Lorne saudage (square from Scotland). I quite like it but wouldn't eat it all the time.

Trainspotting film:

That's a Scottish breakfast. With tattie scones and flying tirds.

It's a tradition; they have to do it at least weekly or their sporran departs.

Have you read the book? Much better than the film.

I've never understood the appeal of beans

Nor me however the mushrooms generally work nicely.

I've never been a real breakfast person anyway

Same. My breakfast is a pint of strong coffee and a couple of cigs.

But an English breakfast is nice if you're in a hotel. Eating it every day would only work if you're doing heavy labour and need the calories.

no one will tell you straight to your face that they don't like English food so as not to offend you.

Not that polite and happy to have second and third helpings of something they like.

Incidentally, more and more shops are selling cheddar in Warsaw. It used to be hard to find.

I can't get Eccles cakes here

They aren't too hard to make. You need a light touch though; the thinner the pastry the better.

For Poles, cheddar cheeses are a taste and organoleptic disaster.

I've never met one who didn't enjoy the real thing. Unfortunately, some of the cheeses sold as cheddar in PL are not the real thing.

We're actually talking about Poland and Poles. Not stuff you've read online.

Nonsense too. You've never been there.

followed by "Wow! A cousin of a person I used to work with drove through there!" follow up.

We do the same only not as much. Even in England which is not huge, there's a disconnect between north and south.

House prices are a big topic in Britain, that and football.

Poles usually avoid this by avoiding each other while abroad

I've noticed that too.
