Life / Why Do You Love Poland? [907]

The beauty in parts is staggering. They have refurbished many parts here and the market square is lovely when lit up. It creates a more relaxed atmosphere and adds an element of class.

Food / Bigos Recipe [183]

Bigos is good when salty. I think the original Lithuanian bigos isn't as salty but Poles tend to prefer salt.

Life / Are foreigners welcome in Poland? [275]

Calcedonia, smart and intelligent people occasionally do use racism. Don't confuse the two.

Need I answer the thread? I think everyone knows my opinion already.

It says in your profile that you are based in Kraków, Poland and that you know Polish. What's with that?

If you are visiting then how can you say you are based in Poland?

History / Why is Vatican traditionally on German and not on Polish side? [65]

Crow, I'm not sure if you are aware of the nutjob known as Leo Zagami. As his name suggests, he is Italian but fled to Norway. Nonetheless, he still offers a lot of insights into the operations of the Vatican and why they favour certain powers. He has done interviews with a guy called Greg Szymański (part Polish, I presume) and you might learn a lot from those :)

One of the most beautiful and diverse countries in Europe? Agreed

Extremely friendly and hard working? Some are and some aren't

Sense of responsibility? Yes and no. Not in administrative centres. A fair few are begrudging there but I've been lucky to also receive help from willing ones.

You seem to be describing Protestant work ethics, Allie. Interesting!

The food is amazing? I like most of it but I wouldn't describe it as amazing. Very good for harsh winters and tasty but too plain to be described as amazing.

Silesia is quite dirty but Iit's an exception

I'll be visiting Poland soon ;) ;) I take it you've been here before then!?

Life / The nature of Polish jokes? [125]

That was very well told, gumi :) :) If you can't laugh at that, you can't laugh at very much :) :) Take a bow :)

We all have preferences. I think part of you likes sheaths. Which brings me to the thread. Aren't there any Polish jokes on sheaths? Pochwa is both sheath and vagina. Picza too :)

Thanks polmed but I'll decline :) Nobody should play God.

Teffle, I still don't quite catch what you mean. It isn't the words but perhaps a lack of exposure to what you have come across. Please try and recall some examples as I'm at a loss.

Polmed is a Polish joke in and of herself. I was kidding about that, being sarcastic. Many British jokes include sarcasm. I graduated LLM on Nov 25 2000 from Aberdeen University, go check it up at the registry. I got a prestigious scholarship to do it. Go ask Peterkins. Only 2/50 applicants got it.

So did you hear about the joke in Polish circles that bigos is from Lithuanian and German sources? Oh wait, it isn't a joke. It's true!!

If having the highest academic law degree you can do isn't smart then I'm a monkey :)

Anyway, back to the topic. I've been here for years and am well placed to comment. Do you know what a joke is?

Who's the native speaker here? Sorry but I can't be racist towards a Pole. Ask any educated native.

Some look for conflict. A certain kind of disgruntled woman will do it and they aren't in short supply here. That wasn't a joke btw :)

Polmed, why can't Teffle share his observations? If he has observed sth bad and is relevant to the thread, why can't he share it? Is Poland beyond reproach?

Polmed, Poles are from the Caucasian race so Teffle can't be racist in this way. Also, organisation has little to do with race. Besides, certain Poles really need to lighten up when it comes to jokes. One of the most uptight nations when it comes to jokes about them. Very similar to Israelis in this way.

Life / Free online Polish Television (TVN). [17]

Those mohair berets shouldn't have much longer ;) ;)

I welcome the idea of free tv. It's simply another option which can easily be used.

Life / Rate Poland (Life Quality / Culture and People / Food): 1-10! [232]

We have to change our ratings?? ;) ;)

Quality of life? It has definitely gotten better for many. It's still lagging behind due to the disproportionality between salary increases and the cost of living. GDP may have risen but not everyone gets a slice of the pie. In European terms, Poland maybe gets a 6.
