USA, Canada / Are there any Polish people in Florida? [311]

I've been in Florida for a while. Started in Miami and slowly been moving up. I'm in Central Florida now.
Here is where "Dirty South" came from. My "boys":

and then there are those that are hiding, not wanting to be caught between those thrice removed still daring to claim they are Polish, and the fearless defenders of the pure Polish culture, whatever that is. ;)

,since Florida is not too on gay couples.

I can think of two places in Florida that are virtual haven for gays: Miami Beach and Key West.
Also, Ft. Lauderdale, West Palm and Miami are gay friendly.

Love / What to answer to the Most annoying phrase that EVERY and EACH polish girl always says? [58]

I have very little patience for people that repeat themselves. Second time they say the same thing, I go "you already said that". Third time, I may tell them a little story about an engineer we had to fire because he kept repeating himself. The concern was that either he was losing his mind, or he thought that we were.

History / Judge Tuleya mother was in SB [74]

raise by a mother and father who worked for communist political police

I'm not sure how I feel about this.
If I found out that my parents did some sh!tty things at work, I would not like it if I was held responsible.
With judges though, there is such thing as conflict of interest.
Are you saying there is a conflict of interest?

Food / Polish polskie pierogi recipe (prepared at home) [72]

I don't think anyone can tell you how your family made the dough.
REAL or TRUE claims will only get people arguing.
Simplest dough is flour and water, then you go from there.

Genealogy / Polish looks? [1410]

one looks at a website like that and the most interesting thing about it was the way people react to it.
I enjoyed it. Each image of a blond woman rung true in some corners of my visual memory.
I guess those that did not have that experience, try to overthink it, are annoyed and want the rest of us to know it. ;)

Genealogy / Polish looks? [1410]

So there is nothing average with that link you showed us. Sorry :)

Did you really look at the pictures???
Stop arguing about how it was done and look at the freaking pictures!
If you don't see distinct differences between Polish, Russian, Italian, English, Irish, then I understand why you're arguing, completely. You just can't see it.

I and I bet many others, however, think they are spot-on, I don't CARE how they did it.

Genealogy / Polish looks? [1410]

typical Polish look, there's no common consensus yet in terms of the facial features

I could not describe what the look is either, I just immediately recognize it. Not always, of course, and for some reason more with women than men, but it's like seeing someone you've seen before, or a relative... and it is definitely in the facial features. I cannot explain it better than that, but I don't think I've ever been mistaken once I'm convinced that the woman is Polish.

History / Life in communist Poland - personal relations [413]

Well .... as interesting as his post was, virtually everything he said has been disagree by various posters.

well, I guess it's safe to assume you were not there.
I don't know how you can disagree with somebody recalling their experiences.

News / Abortion still under control in Poland [2986]

I jumped around the video a bit, until I run into a piece when he was telling some kid he'll go to hell if he doesn't go home and read the bible.

I bet he didn't save any outtakes when people told him to go fck himself, did he?

History / Life in communist Poland - personal relations [413]

excellent post, enkidu.
I don't really agree about people wearing the same clothes though, like uniforms. Just about every woman knew how to sew, or at least adapt what was available to the latest fashion.

We did 4 people in Trabant, luggage and camping gear, and tented it to Black Sea, all the way to Turkish border and back.

Food / 'Wigilia', the traditional Christmas Eve supper in Poland [77]

This is what my mother still makes for that day: herring, barszcz, uszka, fish po grecku, fish w galarecie, sałatka warzywna, pierogi z grzybami, sauteed fish, potatoes, buraczki, kompot, makowiec. And tea, of course.

Food / 'Wigilia', the traditional Christmas Eve supper in Poland [77]

And while I mean no malice to Poland or its cuisine, the traditional Wigilia dishes are at best bland, and at worst utterly revolting.

lol
As much as I look forward to the pickeld hearing, ryba w galarecie, ryba po grecku, barszcz... my son can't handle that fare either, so I can sympathize. ;)
