Law / Gun control in Poland: should Polish people be allowed to own guns? [1070]

Rape rates...

Poland 1.3

USA 41.4

Is this for real??? If this is for real then I would own a gun in the US too lol o_O 🤯 Fortunately I live in Poland so I don't have to :D

Kinda put me off intervening in people's domestic disputes.

I can understand that. That's what police is for though.

Law / Gun control in Poland: should Polish people be allowed to own guns? [1070]

My mom did not close the door well into the 90s. So much so, that I was not in the habit of carrying keys

Everyone was closing the doors in our block of flats in the 90s. I remember going back home and having to sit on the floor next to the door waiting for one of my parents to come back from work.

Explain.

These things weren't talked about back then.

I find this hard to believe.

I'm telling you what I know.

Where the fvck did I say "broad daylight"?

That's when most people go about their lives. As for evening and night - in Poland you're most likely to be safe even then. Of course, you should take reasonable precautions - like in any country.

@Novichok, no woman is raped and murdered in broad daylight in the middle of the city in Poland. That's very rare to happen even at night in some more desolate locations.

Do you yourself carry your gun everywhere you go outside and inside the house? Do your daughters and granddaughters do that?

1) People did not lock their doors

No such thing in PRL.

Nobody was worried that somebody would kidnap them or molest them.

Because parents were stupid (or unaware of all kinds of things) back then. I'm talking from experience.

3) You could forget your wallet at the theater, and it would be waiting for you the next day

And that changed how?

4) Men that were strangers would randomly intervene in the street to stop domestic violence or abuse of underaged persons.

Never heard of such a thing in Poland.

Law / Gun control in Poland: should Polish people be allowed to own guns? [1070]

@Bobko, well, of course when people were losing jobs and borders were suddenly open (and police not ready for it and underfunded), etc. like it happened in the 90's then crime would increase.

That was a transitional period between two completely different political and economical systems though.

Nowadays despite Poland being non-communist we have:

- no large ghettos or underclass districts. I guess you could say that parts of cities with social housing are not the best place to live because of some patologia living there - but at least people do get that social housing;

- low unemployment and help with finding a job;

- free and universal education;

- limited wealth inequality;

- limited access to weapons, except those used for hunting, sport, etc.

Any evidence that rape and murder were lower in Commie times ? I can't find any numbers and wouldn't believe them

Yeah, that's the problem - communist states were supposed to be perfect countries with no crime, no problems, etc. The propaganda was strong.

nothing worth stealing and impossible to make a quick getaway without either a car or fuel.

My thoughts exactly lol And those were different times - how many women would report rape back then?

but this is something that everyone seems to believe is true based on empirical/anecdotal evidence.

The only thing I've heard really was that people were often not afraid to do hitch-hiking with complete strangers. But how much stuff was on the news back then? We have better access to information now and people are more conscious, imho.

And anyway, not that many people had cars back then so hitch-hiking made sense lol Almost everyone has a car now.

Law / Gun control in Poland: should Polish people be allowed to own guns? [1070]

How did the socialists manage to virtually eliminate violent crime?

They didn't though. For example, they didn't manage to catch "Vampire from Zagłębie" for six years, even though 6 of his victims survived and they even brought to Poland a profiler from the US (can you imagine? lol) to catch him. In total that serial killer murdered 14 women. Women were afraid to leave their homes in the evening:

polskieradio24.pl/artykul/1980915,wampir-z-zaglebia-zbrodnie-ktore-wstrzasnely-polska

In later years of PRL there were also other such "vampires".

..only those who are about to be attacked...

Which is rare enough in Poland that people don't feel the need to own a gun.

First of all, is there anything in your house worth anyone dying for ?

Exactly, no material thing is worth it.

No, a tranny raped his father while his mother watched, hence his drama trauma.

lol

Listen, I understand trauma. Getting your house broken into is a traumatic experience that can make you feel unsafe, I imagine. But Novichok shouldn't project his traumas onto others.

Imagine if women knew their place.

And what is that "women's place" according to you, a$$hole?

They don't thanks to feminism.

Yes, thanks to feminism we can vote, get an education, work in all kinds of professions, have a bank account, etc. It must be a terrible reality for psychos like you that would prefer to have women as some kind of house slaves o_O

We were robbed during the day! It was 1956.

Wow, I imagine you'd have to be very unlucky to have a home invasion in PRL and during the stalinist period at that lol Did they rape your mother while your father was watching?? Hence your trauma?

"Most" is an evasive crap. My life is not subject to any statistics. I am the statistic of one.

Then by your "logic" people shouldn't drive cars, because "car accidents happen" lol

Cops carry guns

Because their job is often dealing with dangerous/aggressive people. In Poland majority of ordinary people don't have to deal with dangerous/aggressive people on daily basis and so they don't have a need to carry a gun.

Most don't because this is a safe country

That's true. Majority of Poles don't even have house alarms. If home invasions were common enough in Poland then I'm guessing the first logical thing for people to do would be to install those house alarms.

I don't take assignments.

Then why do you give out assignments to others, you hypocrite?

who don't know the difference between organic Muslims of the USSR who were there for fvcking ever

I know the difference, but that doesn't change the fact that Muslim immigrants are coming to RuSSia also from outside of the country. And not only Muslims. I remember a RuSSian guy living in Moscow me and other Poles were discussing with on his blog complained about immigrant cashiers in supermarkets not knowing RuSSian language. He also complained about some Chechen "taxi gangs" even though Chechnya is part of RuSSia.

Another RuSSian from Moscow that I discussed with at that time complained about Muslims doing the ritual slaughtering of animals right in the open in Moscow and called such behaviour "barbaric". That was some years ago and I can see that since then it was banned due to the public outcry:

observers.france24.com/en/20101119-public-animal-sacrifices-muslim-holiday-shock-russians

'But in predominantly Orthodox Christian Russian cities like Moscow or Saint Petersburg, which have experienced an influx of Muslim migrants in recent years, citizens are shocked by the sight of sheep's throats being slit in the middle of the street.

One incident last year, in which a sheep was sacrificed in the sand-pit of a Moscow playground, sparked particular outrage.'

And a more recent article:

eurasianet.org/photo-essay-muslims-in-moscow-celebrate-kurban-bayram

"Ask Muscovites what they think of Kurban Bayram and you will often receive a sharp, critical response about how the holy day is celebrated in the Russian capital. Many ethnic Russians call it barbaric, and peddle negative stereotypes about the migrants from Central Asia and the Caucasus who celebrate the holiday.

Russian nationalists often use the holiday to highlight the growing numbers of Muslims in Russia. Protestors gather annually to chant slogans like "Russia for Russians" and accuse migrants of receiving extra benefits from the state."

Sounds familiar? :D

"Russian authorities have taken steps to combat offensive comments about the Muslim faith, labeling them as inciting violence and extremism. A flood of extremism cases are now being filed in Russia, and the topic is often the subject of media attention. In a recent case, a man from Novosibirsk received a 2.5-year suspended sentence after making a joke about Kurban Bayram in a comment on a social media post."

You wouldn't be allowed to joke about Muslims in your precious RuSSia, Novichok! :D ;D

themoscowtimes.com/2024/04/03/for-veiled-muslim-women-in-russia-prejudice-and-harassment-are-part-of-everyday-life-a84728

"[You feel] sidelong looks and have to go through additional security at airports, for example. In Moscow in particular, there is distrust toward Muslims, maybe because most Muslims there are migrants who have troubles with law."

And judging by what Bobko wrote it's not like Muslim communities in RuSSia are completely immune to radicalisation.

themoscowtimes.com/2025/03/22/witch-hunt-why-russia-is-blaming-a-closed-ingush-sufi-order-for-major-terrorist-acts-a88235

"Padiev and Tochiev are not the first members of the order to have been linked to a major terrorist attack in Russia. Last year, four members of the brotherhood were arrested on suspicion of selling weapons and ammunition to the perpetrators of the deadly March 2024 attack on the Crocus City Hall concert venue, which left 145 people dead and hundreds more wounded."

the morons like you

I'm just educating RuSSia-loving morons like you who know close to nothing about RuSSia what's the reality on the ground and that it's not so rosy when compared to the West as you might think :)

Travel / Poland in photo riddles - part 3 [818]

I wouldn't mind a trip there :)

I wouldn't mind either :) There are also geological workshops during which you can find minerals for yourself under the supervision of an educator :):

geopasja389390672.wordpress.com/wyprawy-geoturystyczne-i-warsztaty-geologiczne/

I like the rings in your link although most of them are sold out.

There are Polish sites with available jewelry made of striped flint.

@Novichok, but you can share your thoughts after watching the video :) Or do you have no independent thoughts of your own whatsoever and your brain got completely scrambled with MAGA and RuSSian propaganda? :D

Did you watch the video?

It gets even funnier - from the comment section under the video - Crow's Serbia ;D:

@Torq

1. Yeah, I agree.
2. And Putin isn't? o_O
3. I see what you did here lol

And your point is what?

Watch the video - that RuSSian guy is making my point for me.

@Torq, there were some things new to me though, like that RuSSian far-right militia "patrolling because of migrants". That wouldn't be necessary in this ideal conservative country that some Americans think RuSSia is, now would it lol

I don't know about Warsaw, but we've had a hellish heat today in Kielce, so isn't it possible that it's just an ordinary fire? 🤔

Now I know why I hate PF Poles and like Russians. Russians are smart and don't play stupid games...

A video with special dedication to Novichok (and other MAGA lovers of RuSSia and Putin plus also Polish right-wingers and nationalists who think it only happens in the "liberal/leftist" West) :D:

@jon357, I don't know, I'm not an expert on this stuff. 🤔 I only know that my region is apparently the only place on Earth where striped flint can be found:

Yes, I was quite surprised to find it was mined in Poland.

Me too, I didn't even know there were opals in Poland! lol
They were mined, but not anymore - the mine was closed in the 80's or 90's, I think. Now that mine and that area is a tourist attraction for geology enthusiasts, because it's a pretty rare place in Europe apparently (that area has 81 types of minerals).

I didn't realise you had collected them!

I don't, that's not my footage :)

Lower Silesia? I already read that opal is mined in a place called Szklary.

Yes, exactly! Opals in Poland are mainly found in Lower Silesia and this one was found in Szklary-Huta :)

Opal used to be very valued in antiquity, because it was rare. The only place where it was known to be found in Europe was apparently today's Slovakia. In the 19th century vast deposits were discovered in Australia and opal has become the national gemstone of that country :)

I love the colour :)

Me too :)

They're prone to cracking unfortunately.

Yes, apparently they can break like glass.

Other pieces found at that location during a half an hour walk:

@Feniks, yes, well done, it's opal!!! :))) 🥳🎉 Opal mleczny to be more precise - literally it means "milky opal". Apparently it's lechosos opal in English?

Where in Poland do you think it was found?

Btw, this is what it looked like after getting it out of dirt:

"we can't block states from making laws that protect their citizens."

UK, Ireland / Polish immigrants in the UK - victims or criminals?! [295]

Can you f*cking imagine how Poles would react if this was a story here about a Ukrainian girl harming little Polish dzieci?

And you're generalising again. Some would go bonkers and others realise that we've had abusive przedszkolanki of our own.
