News / US to deploy Patriot missiles to Poland [405]

Well, I don't mind a Muslim presence here in Europe but as long as the powers-that-be here don't thrust radicalisation on us. There are evil people here that would do that and have indeed done that already in the Balkans.

Patriot missiles? Word has it that Tusk has already purchased some but for what?

Exactly, Timotei. France and Britain, 2 nuclear powers, have had their heyday and its time for them to be humbled. However, colonised by who?

Language / Maria, what is the Polish form? [30]

Enkidu, you have just shown Lyzko's point on the other thread. It's 'worth noting'. Marian is indeed a man's name as I teach one.

wow, I've never heard of a more Russian Jewish name than this :) :) Still, it's Chopin's music.

Love / Are Polish still very traditional when it comes to relationships? [31]

Fstop, good point. I know a couple of Polish guys who are the exception to that but they tend to strive towards being the breadwinner.

There is the expectation that a man should be a gentleman, which makes me wonder. How on earth do those slap-headed morons get any sort of respect at all? Poles have all the types just like anywhere.

Genealogy / What are common Polish character traits? [425]

Some claim to be close to Jesus. I've just worked on an amazing 'look at the screen' thing. I had to look at 4 black dots for about 30 seconds, then look away to a light point on the wall. My wife didn't tell me what to expect but she asked me what I had seen. It was a very clear picture of Jesus. I was taken aback, I thought it was the wine finally taking effect but the image I saw was the one I was supposed to.

I can forward this e-mail to any interested person. It really wowed me. Just don't condition yourself to look for Jesus. Let your eyes work it out. Truly staggering!!

Oh, just so this doesn't get deleted, another Polish character trait is to say nothing for fear of being wrong. They will sit and happily ignore you, quite rude actually but they have their reasons. Bring back slapping and ice-cold water treatments ;0

Too much of this 'no sex before marriage' crap. Why not put up the legal age for consensual sex to 22? Oh, I forgot, people still screw after being in nightclubs.

To her credit, my wife isn't that way. I can't be doing with impositional people. Holier-than-thou people can take a hike IMHO.

Life / Are foreigners welcome in Poland? [305]

Do they really understand the differences, southern? Let's face it, religious knowledge is hardly the most developed amongst your average Christians.

Life / Are foreigners welcome in Poland? [305]

True, MC, true.

RN, that's right. Well, only a select few really benefit and they are those in the oil&gas industry, Aberdeen being the capital of Europe in that area. Others benefit from the way local communities are set up and do a roaring trade. I'm talking here about Chinese and Indian restaurants primarily.

I wouldn't say foreigners are that welcome here, on balance. What really makes me laugh about that is that many Poles seem completely fed up with one another. I know many foreigners with charisma that could really enhance their lives. Many Poles are drawn to them like magnets and are a breath of fresh air.

I'm aware of that, MC. Many are just drifters who are either here for the women or just a change. Being from Britain, I like a little variety as it provides spice. However, there are definite limits and I found my home city to be too diverse when I was back.

In Poland, a fair part of the culture is through the church. Quite a few outsiders cannot enrich that at all, just live with it. I also don't like that term as it is coined.

Zuczek has a good point. I make little mistakes in pronunciation but nothing to sneer at. However, a few Poles make out that their language is somehow untouchable and have a guffaw/titter at little things which other people would let pass.

It's another way of wrapping further identity around themselves but what cannot be hidden is the victim complex and the lack of oomph that many have. Foreigners can bring a whole new dimension to thinking in different areas and this is the age of exchange.

Life / Smoking vs. Grilling on Balconies / High Rises in Poland [66]

It's the lack of houses that cause the problem. Flats don't allow for a lot of maneuvering. Some of the houses in my home city would be ideal for BBQ's as they have huge gardens and are very green.

Study / "MAGISTER" OR "MASTERS DEGREE" - ARE THEY THE SAME? [75]

I don't think I could work for one of those establishments which streamlines qualifications. They have too linear a way of looking at things and my mind just doesn't work in that way. Some stuff I did in my undergrad was harder than in my postgrad. Some secondary school material was very tough too. A general equivalence is needed but not such a close analysis.

Fair enough point, Tuzin. They don't accept stragglers that bumble on. A contribution needs to be made in some form.

News / Polish President Lech Kaczynski and gov officials die in a plane crash in Russia [686]

Then Tusk is out of touch with reality, Olga, because Szeremet and Rzepa are due to go across and exchange findings on Tuesday I believe. Check one of the links I posted above, the Polish delegation is to be sent across. It's a bit cheeky really as the Russian authorities hold the bulk of the data and they ask the Poles to come across, what a joke!

I have to agree with that, M-G. They can't have their cake and eat it (too). Benefits or no benefits to immigration, swamping is swamping. Poland couldn't cope with such a deluge of folk.

Havok, what's the problem with sb exploring an alternative angle in their free time? Don't be too quick to go down the conspiracy nut road. You just need to use your judgement and identify what is bogus and what isn't. Some conspiracies I've heard are off the wall but I've also seen some really good ones from educated people.

You have to admit that the lack of consistency in the media arouses suspicion and creates red herrings. Also, the contents of the black box were to be released on Apr 22 but they weren't. Now, who really cares for an edited version as that's what we'll get?

Journalists write any old nonsense to sell stories these days. Besides, nobody seems to care anyway. You can show amazingly strong evidence and people just deny it. Things which seem pretty clear to a legally trained person is just brushed aside by those who just believe what they want to.

So, what is the latest on the black boxes? It's all fabrication anyway!

Havok, I disagree with the part about wounds. One sniff of trouble with any part of their body and they are off to the doc. The rest has much relevance but viciously intelligent, I can't agree. I'm lucky enough to know those that are but many aren't.
