News / Poland's post-election political scene [4080]

The profits of a Polish bank or other company stay in Poland and bolster the national economy.

Really?

The profits from the SKOKi went to Luxembourg, where they mysteriously vanished. Can you explain that one, given that they are 100% Polish?

A case in point -- During the post-2008 crisis, foreign-owned banks were reluctant to grant credit to Poles

PKO didn't do any better. 2010 in Q1 saw only 1% rise in loans granted by PKO to businesses. In Q4, foreign banks outpaced PKO when it came to loans.

why would the government employ some brit with shall we say a questionable lifestyle (wink wink) :

Because, unlike you, the Brit has significant knowledge and experience in these fields.

By the way, plenty of foreign experts are employed by the Polish government.

Silly boy! Go and read up about passporting.

And with the Polish sector perfectly placed to lose badly as a result of incompetent bank leadership, the only losers will be the Polish taxpayer.

Of course, Goofy here doesn't pay taxes anywhere.

The foreign banks can't believe their luck!

It really was a blessing for them!

Goofy, about your "banksters", shouldn't you first question the First Bankster, Mateusz Morawiecki? How much money did he earn for his Spanish paymasters?

News / Future of Polish-Ukrainian relations [632]

[Moved from]: Polish thugs attack helpless Ukrainians

A pretty dreadful story, this one. Ukrainian workers living in the town of Chwaszczyno (near the Tri-City agglomeration) were attacked by drunken Polish thugs late at night. They were assaulted, and the drunken mob accused them of "stealing jobs" and told them to "go home". They were attacked with all sorts of weapons, including broken battles and bats. The same thugs also attacked the owner of the company that employed the Ukrainians.

More about this story (in Polish):
trojmiasto.wyborcza.pl/trojmiasto/7,35612,21889822,w-chwaszczynie-zaatakowano-dom-w-ktorym-mieszkaja-ukraincy.html?utm_source=facebook.com&utm_medium=SM&utm_campaign=FB_Gazeta_Wyborcza

Disgusting. The rise in attacks against foreigners during this government is absolutely and completely unacceptable. The government has blood on its hands.

It's also worth pointing out that they weren't taking jobs from locals, as there was an acute labour shortage that the Ukrainians were filling. One can only express surprise at the way that the Polish government was quick to go to Egypt (or the UK) when there was a death there, but they turn a blind eye to violence in Poland.

USA, Canada / Polish-American criminals [70]

Racist Polish-American viciously assaults and abuses delivery driver

A nasty story from the US, where a poor defenceless Amazon delivery driver was viciously assaulted, both verbally and physically by a Polish-American.

nypost.com/2017/05/02/man-screamed-white-power-during-brutal-assault-on-delivery-man-court

The Polish-American in question seemed to fail to understand the irony in this...

"You are a f-king immigrant, go back to your country," Zatorski allegedly yelled while kicking and punching the victim.

He continued...

"What the f-k are you doing here? Here is my country. We are white power," he continued.

Nevermind the fact that with a name like "Zatorski", America is clearly not his country...

Anyway:

Steven Zatorski, 48, was handed the charge of assault as a hate crime in Manhattan Criminal Court Tuesday after allegedly beating his victim senseless

As we can see yet again, the real threat to American society comes from white men, not from immigrants. One can only wonder what a great country America would be without the presence of racist Americans. It seems that you can't open the news without reading about yet another hate attack carried out by white American men towards defenceless minorities.

Perhaps the only solution is to provide all immigrants to the US with a gun so that they can defend themselves appropriately against this threat.

Poland arrests and deports pro-Ukrainian, anti-Russian Freedom Fighter

Perhaps in a sign of the times, Poland deported an Austrian man. He was fighting against the Russian forces in Eastern Ukraine, and was accused by pro-Russian elements in Austria of having committed war crimes. Those allegations clearly had no basis in reality.

houstonchronicle.com/news/crime/article/War-crimes-suspect-in-Ukraine-conflict-extradited-11182112.php

Clearly an absolute joke by all accounts. He should have been received as a hero in Poland for fighting against the unlawful Russian occupation in Eastern Ukraine, but instead, Poland treated him like a common criminal and extradited him instead. Does this government have no dignity whatsoever?

One can only wonder why the Poles took the Russian view of things rather than the far more credible Ukrainian view.

History / What do Poles owe to Jews? [586]

Merged:

Priceless Torah scroll finally returned to Jewish hands after decades

While Poland often complains about Polish artefacts in foreign hands, Poles are often unwilling to return items originally belonging to the Jewish community to their rightful owners. This week saw a very small step in the right direction, as a Polish woman finally returned pieces of a Torah scroll from the Holocaust era to the Jewish people. Her grandmother had selfishly kept it for many years without returning it, and it took plenty of persuasion for the grandchild to actually return what didn't belong to her in the first place. It's a pity that it wasn't returned immediately after the war, and even more of a pity that it took over 70 years to be returned to the rightful owners. The same story is repeating itself all over Poland, whereby accidental owners of such artefacts often demand significant compensation in order to return them home.

One can only wonder how many more priceless artefacts are out there, being kept hidden away by greedy owners who couldn't care less about their significance to Poland's small yet thriving Jewish community. It is the obligation of every Polish person to hand these artefacts over immediately and without monetary compensation.

Life / How do Polish people treat their animals? [33]

Merged:

Abuse of animals in Poland

Unfortunately, those who live in Poland know that countryside attitudes towards animals is often very poor. Dogs are left chained up all day and night, while other animals such as horses are commonplace. Animals are often overworked, with some of the worst cases occurring with the horses in Zakopane which transport tourists.

This video should raise a few eyebrows: equista.pl/obrazek/1024/horse-abuse-in-poland

Unfortunately, the Polish government has no interest in the welfare of animals. Their core electorate from the villages see no harm in abusing God's creations, so we can expect the current sad state of affairs to continue for the time being. One can only hope that they pick up The Bible at some point during their rule in order to understand that animals deserve the same respect as fellow humans.

I believe there was also a recent report about the conditions in which pigs are kept in Poland which highlighted the disgraceful state of affairs here.

News / Polish LGBT activists perform tribute to George Michael [38]

From Poland, Jakub Kwiecinski and Dawid Mycek (popular YouTubers in Poland) created a tribute to George Michael in cooperation with United Polish LGBT to protest anti-gay laws in Poland. As we all know, Poland suffers from some of the most backwards laws in Europe concerning gay rights, with members of the government far more concerned with lining their pockets than basic human rights.

Unfortunately, since the new government was installed, hatred towards LGBT citizens in Poland has been on the increase. Such attacks have brought greater attention to LGBT issues, with the recent Gdańsk equality parade attracting record numbers.

pinknews.co.uk/2017/05/22/polish-lgbt-rights-activists-recreate-george-michael-video-to-challenge-anti-gay-laws

It's a fun video, and can be found at the bottom of the article. Such international awareness can only help with LGBT rights in Poland, and the support of the international LGBT community is assured.

History / Polish hero discovers Jewish roots [25]

It's a bit of an old story, but a heartwarming one. The Polish hero Magdalena Grodzka-Guzkowska, who took part in teaching Jewish people in wartime Warsaw how to pass off successfully as Catholics among many other heroic acts, discovered her own Jewish roots many years later.

jweekly.com/2012/01/06/after-saving-jews-polish-hero-discovers-own-jewish-roots

As the article says:

The discovery of Jewish roots is a growing phenomenon in Poland, where increasing numbers of Catholic or secular Poles in recent years have learned, often from deathbed confessions or from chance discoveries of documents, that they are of Jewish descent.

The Jewish revival in Poland is supported by all main political parties, and it is clear that the Jewish heritage of Poland should not only be mentioned, but should be considered a key component of Polish history. Many of us support Jewish causes, and the strong Jewish influence on Polish business and political life should not be understated.

UK, Ireland / Polish drink-driving murderer sentenced to 5.5 years in prison [99]

Poland has a severe problem with drink driving, and it seems that one of the most successful Polish exports is exporting the problem abroad too.

leinsterleader.ie/news/home/249687/breaking-damien-klasinski-sentenced-for-causing-death-of-kildare-cllr-willie-crowley.html

Damien Klasinski, who mowed down a fine outstanding member of the Kildare County Council in Ireland, was sentenced to 5.5 years in prison for this horrific act. Damien was no stranger to the long arm of the law, as he had 13 previous convictions for driving offences in 2015, including drink driving and driving without insurance. When he chopped down the fine Irish councillor, he was also breaking the speed limit and driving in an inappropriate manner for the conditions.

The judiciary is so full of corrupt judges who can easily be bought by the highest bidder that Ziobro wants to clean up their act.

Really? Where's your proof of this? Anyone can report a crime Polly, why don't you go ahead and report what you know?

Ziobro wants control of the courts so he can tell judges what the results should be. Still, perhaps you can explain to us why the pre-1989 situation of judges being under political control is superior to the current system.

Maybe bc those tenders in Poland are neither open or fair, so why bother?.

That sounds like trying to justify an unbelievable case of corruption with the involvement of a Boeing lobbyist.

In the context of it that French deal was shady and not in Poland interests

Why wasn't it in Poland's interests? We already know that they offered a huge offset deal, which was much better than anyone else could offer.

overpriced supposed to sweeten French after they have been forced not to sell some warship to Russia. (they sold them anyway through Egypt).

Come on Ironside, that Egypt story was completely rubbished very quickly.

By the way, I find it interesting that you think that ex-PZPR members aren't commies. Any particular reason for that?

They aren't. Unless you want to tell us about your knowledge of an order that a) wasn't tendered and b) wasn't announced. Even Polonius hasn't attempted to claim this.

Hmm in the light of Smolensk and other accidents that was long time coming.

Isn't that more reason to keep with civilian LOT-operated planes? LOT have a decent safety record, unlike the military.

He's not an obscure dude. He was the head of the Smolensk sub-commission.

Ziobro told public broadcaster TVP

But of course he did. Of course, he's not saying anything about a deal that even members of PiS know to be so rotten that they want nothing to do with it.

Isn't it also strange that Ziobro is conveniently trying to seize control of the courts at the same time as making such claims? I mean, it wouldn't be anything to do with Stalinist show trials, would it?

Anyone else notice how Polonius goes on a rant about other members when he wants to deflect attention from one of the most unbelievable cases of open corruption in a long time in Poland?

Polonius, don't you realise that by trying to cover these things up, it just gets worse in the end? Macierewicz is even annoying people in PiS now, and they've voted today to investigate the Boeing VIP plane deal. Wouldn't it be better to admit that it's probably a case of corruption, and that PiS should be looking for a defence minister who doesn't have suspicious links to American lobbyists?

You and I want the best for Poland's defence, don't we?

News / Poland's post-election political scene [4080]

Whoever claims that Maciarewicz is corrupted is clearly daft.

Where are our helicopters? Why did Poland order VIP planes rather than helicopters? Most importantly, why did ex-PZPR member and Head of the Smolensk Sub-Commission Wacław Berczyński vanish to the USA after a) receiving large loans from Boeing to buy property and b) boasting about how he killed the order for the helicopters? Why wasn't there a fair and open tender for those VIP planes?

Why are you trying to defend this situation? I really don't understand it Ironside. You supposedly hate the commies so much, yet you turn a blind eye to an ex-commie's involvement in a horrific case of corruption.

Really? Where's his investigation into Macierewicz, then?

He's not going against corruption at all. He's going against personal enemies, such as the cardiologists from the hospital where his father died. It's classic PZPR behaviour.

Except as all the polls show, they've been turning *to* him.

Polly, I'll ask again: why is it so hard for you to accept that some elements of PiS are electoral poison? PiS are struggling to pull clear of PO because they can't deal with Macierewicz and the corruption scandal of the decade (reminder: A Boeing lobbyist was responsible for Poland cancelling a badly needed military helicopter order and replacing it with an order for VIP planes for the government - the same lobbyist fled Poland as soon as the deal was signed).

So, if you're so concerned about the Polish people - why aren't you standing up against PiS for closing hospitals and ambulance stations while ordering hugely expensive and unneeded VIP planes?
