And he took part in defence against the Teutons. In Frombork probably?

he commanded the defense of Olsztyn in the 1520 Polish-Teutonic order war - the thing is that the cities (with large German populations)(and not only the cities but also the gentry) of the lands later called Royal Prussia rebelled against the Teutonic Order long before (during the 13 year war that ended in 1453 or so) and chose to join the Polish kingdom with a lot of self-goverment though

Toruń belonged to Poland despite a large German speaking community.

not before the end of the 13 year war and the Toruń peace

Is that why they stopped the judge who wanted to look at them from doing so and suspended him ?

yes, they do behave suspiciously as if there was something wrong with the lists - and i do not claim to know why for sure (my guess as I pointed in my previous post is that the number of individual judges on all lists combined is shamefully small - I also mentioned that one possible motivation is protecting those loyal judges from ostarcism in their job environments)

- Gazeta Wyborcza has found no wrongdoing in the case they revealed besides obvious pointing out that the judges on the list benefitted from PiS rule so I doubt there is a skeleton in the cupboard there (at least not of scandalous magnitude)

we also don't know how Wyborcza got their hands on the list they published - it could have been a controlled leak

How here's the big question: Was Kopernikus aka Kopernigk, aka Copernicus Polish or German?

what I know his mother was German - also there is no record of him writing anything in Polish (but Polish writing system hasn't been established by then if I recall correctly) - the city of Toruń was founded by the Teutonic Order if I recall correctly and the Knights attracted German settlers to their towns and cities (although the land Toruń was founded in was inhabited by Poles - even at the end of the World War 1 the majority of the area of Toruń was Polish from what I can gather) - Copernicus also belonged to the German fraternity when he studied in Italy

as for his Polishness - Polish sources claim that his father was Polish originating in Kraków - Kopernik looks like a Polish surname with roots in the German word for copper though - nik is a Slavic ending

i guess Copernicus understood (and probably spoke) Polish but probably identified as German

Are there any historical sites or museums I should visit near Płock?.

I can't remember anything special about Płock - there is a pretty old cathedral and a zoo on the banks of Vistula - I guess the zoo isn't spectacular and to see a cathedral you need half an hour or so -

what I would recommend is going to see Toruń - Toruń is about 100 km from Płock with half of the way covered by a paid motorway - it is a nice city with an mostly untouched by war old medieval city centre - in Toruń you can visit a museum of gingerbread with English guides where you can bake your own gingerbreads - Toruń is also where Copernicus was born

News / Why is Poland so hostile against Germany? Do they realize how their reparations rubbish damages relations? [510]

The € is an elitist project from elitists for elitists.

I feel your pain, man - elitism (mainly financial elites -but they are cahoots with most of the governments and the judiciary) is one of the worst problems this world faces - in my opinion workers should have a big share in the companies/firms profits not just their salary (say half of the profit of companies should be distributed among the workers according to their input which would also probably require also limitation to the amount of dividend and salaries of the leadership) - maybe it sounds a bit bolshevik to some people but that's my view

We are not talking about a state secret. It should be freely available to anyone who want to see them.

PiS officials claimed that the support lists couldn't be published because of the RODO regulations - I have only a very vague idea of what this RODO is all about so I have no idea if this was/is legitimate or not

anyway, in my understanding PiS is reluctunt to publish the lists because they want to protect those judges who are loyal to them/side with them from witch hunt (dintojra) from there peers - though there is also a possibility that the support lists globally show quite a narrow support among the judges and it somehow may have been seen as shameful by PiS

the KRS support lists have been disclosed recently

OK I was wrong a bit - actually one instance of support lists have been revealed by Gazeta Wyborcza but there was nothing wrong with the support list if you ask me - the tv programme i watch made me think they published all of the lists - maybe I misunderstood some things

What is with hidding the KRS support lists?

the KRS support lists have been disclosed recently - what do you mean by extra judges?

during the first PiS (plus coalition) government the lustration (vetting) bill was deemed unconstitutional by the contemporanous Trybunał Konstytucyjny based on the article 2, 65 and 31 of the constitution - go and see what those articles state - I hope you will understand how partisan (or corrupt) that body was -

Or what was it with failing to publish the legally binding judgement of the TK in the first place?

the judgement was not a judgement because the bill on the structure and the proceedings of the TK has been changed and according to the then binding bill it was not a verdict of the Tribunal (for formal reasons)

Its all going in pockets of small elite.

that's what I thought - this is one thing the current Polish government wants to tackle: the exploitation of farmers and workers by the big capital - I know, I know it sounds a bit bolshevik - but I think it is achieveable in much better ways than bolshevism (i.e through state ownership of everything or forced collectivisation)

Serbia is an asylum for insane mono-maniacs.

do jugde Serbia by one Crow heh ;)

We see USA as bigger threat than russia.

because? because America imposes tariffs on German goods that are competetive because of the euro currency? in my opinion if you see America as a threat then you see Liberty as a threat - but that's just my opinion

I understand your point - but the thing is the point shows that you show little to no solidarity - and then you demand solidarity from other member states by demanding of them to take immigrants quota - isn't NATO about solidarity (I personally believe German elites would want to leave NATO if it wasn't for bad reception it would have among it's Western European partners )

Ukraine in mid winter cut of the gas and Germany had to use its reserve to get us through winter.

so because Russia has beef with Ukraine you don't trust Poland? you strike a deal with Russia which is directly against the interests of Poland and you want us to trust Germany?

what if someday Russia wants to invade in Poland - should we trust you to defend Poland - many in Poland don't and that's why we want stricter relationship with the United States - and then you call us American puppet - can you not see a vicious circle?

Paragraph 180, my dear gumi.

the practice was that judges were moved into retirement after reaching the retirement age (stan spoczynku) - so either this article was being broken throughout the history of democratic Poland or that the article conflicts both with what other constitution articles state and with what the Constitutional Tribunal said about the issue - and you know Constitutional Tribunal has the final say of what laws are binding according to the constitution (not you)

as for the European Law - please quote the laws the European Court of Justice or whatever it is called cited in their verdict - also even if it is so then the laws of the EU are conflicted on the matter

by the way: by the ruling of German Constitutional Tribunal all internal German laws have a precedence over European laws - interesting no?

you asked for a translation -here you are - I wanted to do it quick and I never claimed here that my English is fluent

Two verdicts by the Constitutional Tribunal - from 1998 and 2014 have established that it is lawful under the constitution for parliament to set a retirement age for judges, including lowering of the retirement age. The verdict from 2014 was given by a the Constitutional Tribunal under prof. Rzepliński, who now opposes the judiciary reforms.

As I said before

You said PiS broke the law a couple of times - and I said it's probably easy to name a couple of them - but so far you haven't given any

No, it isn`t one, it is only the defence of law which is laid down in the current constitution

constitution doesn't say anything on how the Supreme Court should look like - it grants the parliament the right to shape it - and PiS did just that?

in case you had doubts here's a quote in Polish : Dwa wyroki Trybunału Konstytucyjnego - z 1998 r. i 2014 r.

any more examples of how PiS broke the law?

We need the gas to heat our homes and for industry. There is no alternative.

I don't deny Germany its gas even if it comes from Russia - the thing is it would have been cheaper (as much as ten times cheaper) to build another stretch of pipeline through Baltic States and Poland - yet Germany chose to strike a deal with Russia and build Nord Stream against the very interest of Poland - if it wasn't the case Poland would not seek to buy gas from Norway, USA or Katar

- why am I supposed to trust someone who doesn't trust me

E.g., they broke Polish and European law when they tried to remove legally appointed judges claiming they are too old.

the European treaties give the member states the right to organize their judiciaries - that's one

two - Polish constitution states that the organization of the Supreme Court is defined by a parliament bill - and PiS just changed the bill simples - judges were bound to retire by previous laws as well - PiS just changed the retirement age

any more examples?

PiS was forced to withdraw from it and so they did.

PiS was not forced to withdraw it - but realised that it was a fight too much for one year - but now judges went for a counteroffensive which can lead to judiciary anarchy in Poland

I have long ago resigned to the fact that I'm ugly :P

also you try do detract from the gist of the matter - and the gist of the matter is that PiS is a democratic and democracy respecting party as shown by their past decisions and every sane person is able to determine it

The hydra of neo bolshevism must be burnt with hot iron to the very end. hahaha

as I said - you are an extremist - I call you rabid for simplicity

by the way: what laws did PiS break - please give a couple of examples

But they will if PiS controls everything.

maybe PiS will control all institutions - but they are a democratic party and run elections and there is no change to that in sight unless you are rabid or hysterical

It's nothing but that. PiS supporters need enemies, and Germany is a convenient one.

Kaczyński never categorically stated neither for the domestic market nor intentionally (as far as I know) that Poland will press the war reparations issue on Germany - it is very much an issue on a slow burner

Polish public (ok PiS supporters including myself) are no against Germany per se but against the German meddling in Polish affairs or pressurising Poland through EU institutions

- most Polish people are (or maybe were) unaware of the irregularities and pathologies of the previous regimes although they were on the receiving end of what was the outcome of those pathologies

that you live in/next to the forest. The local PiS man comes and decides that your house would make an ideal cabin for his daughter,

no such thing ever happened in the times of PiS government - simples

as far as I know no such thing happened in PRL after Bierut as well

The system isn't perfect, but having judges dependent on politicians is the worst possible outcome.

first of all I am all for the American system where judges are elected directly by the public
- secondly when judges are an authority unto themselves this pretty soon leads to the rule of lawyers (as manifested to some degree in Poland) - I bet you understand that the rule of lawyers is not democracy

- also the European Union Tribunal (or whaterver it is called) is appointed by politician who currently rule in the countries in respect (for a term of course, however) - do you have qualms with that? - also PiS is by no means a totalitarian power but a democracy abiding party - if they behave like bullies they will be punished in the first election
