us

Australians?

If you prefer, you're very free to use a Polish language forum on Poland - there are plenty of them...

In what way does what you can or cannot "accept" make the slightest difference?

Next time your parents allow you to go to McDonalds for a happy meal, do you tell the assistant that you "can accept" Ronald McDonald but not Hamburglar?

Genealogy / Just found out I'm Polish! [45]

isn't that normal? ...:D

In Poland, certainly although it's seen by some as a rather inelegant habit. Having said that, there's a lot of head scratching now we have to segregate everything and multi section ones (which don't fit under the sink) are more popular.

I wonder if the lady who's just discovered she's 'Polish' (maybe the tooth fairy left a passport under her pillow) realises that she now has to replace her pillows with square ones, throw out her carpets, have her home repainted in white or yellow (only one coat!) and move her washing machine into the bathroom.

Plus divest her fridge of anything that tastes of much, buy an annoying yappy doglet and lock it indoors all day (plus let it crap in the street when she does take it out) and buy a metal front door with half a dozen locks, only half of which she has a key for.

And she'll have to go round her home detaching the light fittings (throw away any subtle ones) from the ceiling so they have a gap of a couple of inches.

Get a bad hairdo, buy a copy of "101 ways to ruin pork", close all windows to avoid the dangers of fresh air and most of all, move the bin under the sink.

Answer: they couldn't and you are very simply lying as usual.

This is all they can do. And nobody believes a word. Plus of course it compromises everything else they say.

Pretty clear that PiS are now costing the "ordinary Pole" a significant amount of money

Plus the effect on jobs. Not that the usual suspects on here who defend PiS are bothered about that - none of them work here.

News / Jacek Kurski, the new chairman of TVP (Telewizja Polska) [37]

One of best known quotes of Jacek Kurski is

Exactly and this pattern is being repeated by them throughout public life. Do you remember the mess with Wildstein and TVP last time they were briefly in office?

That and the attempt to politicise the KRRiT.

Czech Republic can afford to say stuff like that, because it's not in the geopolitical crashzone.

Exactly. The two economies are vastly different as are the sizes of the respective populations.

there's a reason why we don't pay the button pusher the same salary as the CEO.

Perhaps he preferred the days when salaries in Poland were less unequal.

e isolation of Poland

You're mistaking the "isolation of Poland" with the entirely justifiable isolation of the present unpopular minority regime. The PRL wasn't Poland; it was just a regime that nobody liked. It's the same with this one.

Their attempts to manipulate the media are much the same. Nobody believes it and both regimes were fortunately temporary.

You just got used to elites and fascists ruling world

That short phrase utterly destroys your ranting post.

You fail to understand that not everyone in Poland has the same vision about the country as you - hence your inability to understand why those tens of thousands of ordinary men and women from all parts of Polish society are so concerned about the current situation that they come out on the streets in the middle of an icy Polish winter to attend the pro-democracy rallies...

That Czech PM officially said there's nothing wrong

That of course makes all the difference!

:-)

Indeed...

This more or less sums it up perfectly.

The worst issue isn't the political damage caused by appointments like this, but the material and spiritual damage to society that their incompetence and venality will invariably cause.

Ironic that you accuse people of being "hostile" in a post that drips hostility. And then rant about Islam and "foreign identities".

Basically as logical and as rational as the gang that the Polish pro-democracy movement are so justifiably concerned about.

They are dragged into it

Nope. Nobody 'dragged' into anything (except perhaps those few people who were bussed in for the failed PiS counter demonstration - and they all sloped off to the Arkadia shopping mall instead),

You're very cynical. And underestimate the intelligence of Poles if you think that the tens of thousands of people from so many different walks of life who choose to attend the Polish pro-democracy rallies not know their own minds.

the leaders of the trough defenders that are scared

Basically PiS, then.

They cna see it will soon increasignly difficult to drag people into the streets

There you go again, Po3, trying to pretend that all those thousands of pro-democracy protesters, people from all walks of life, of all ages are somehow "dragged" into spontaneously supporting Poland...

As I say, running scared.

Life / Living like a local in Poland - What does it even mean? [30]

What life style is a foreigner suppose to live in order to be considered an integral part of the Polish society.

It means different things for different people since not all Poles live the same way, and Polish society is far from being single-faceted.

An urban educated cosmopolitan city dweller in Poland, and a small farmer spending their life far from a town have a very different lifestyle and often a very different set of values.

News / PiS and Russian political/economic interests [70]

designed to ensure Russian domination over our domestic oil industry while also subsidising the Russian budget. Why?

A lot of people are asking this at the moment. Basically another mess caused by PiS with (and this seems to be happening more and more) all the advantage to Russia.

The looting and plundering of Poland, aka TKM, can now take place unopposed by any pesky workers that might oppose them

Agreed absolutely, though worth mentioning the dirty tricks that they try.

It's clear that they're dropping like a stone in the opinion polls.

Aren't they just? I wonder if any other party in Poland has plummeted in popularity so soon after 'winning' an election. So far and without exception, every step they've taken has been a wrong move!

You may quicker find yourself deported from Poland to the Russian Federation than see any sanctions against the "current regime" of Poland.

Somehow I doubt that, on the one hand never having been to Russia and on the other hand being a citizen however you should be aware (but almost certainly aren't) of the range of different sanctions that the EU can use - and this has already been suggested.

Amazing how one dodgy regime elected by only 18% of the electorate can make such a mess of everything in such a short time. Basically, not one decision they have so far made has been welcomed by the public.

News / Mateusz Matyszkowicz, executive director of Fronda will lead TVP Kultura [15]

TVP Kultura will become an absolute joke, and it confirms what we've all been saying - that PiS will simply turn the public media into PZPR-bisTV

Indeed. Basically they've appointed an outspoken and fascistic religious extremist - aside from the impact that will have on the once good TV station, it's just another step that discredits them.

Well, opinions are like noses

Exactly and sometimes views are so strident, meretricious and ill-informed that people will seize on some nonsense and pretend that someone's founded a branch of IS in Poland - which they haven't.

That's just a rant, Po3 and doesn't not reflect the massive turn out and huge popular support. Amusing to hear you say "fizzling out" when they're just starting.

I've said it before and it's worth repeating - the cross section of people attending the pro-democracy rallies across Poland is amazing, including plenty of staunch conservatives. Last Saturday I was very pleasantly surprised about some of the people I know who attended; people who would never normally turn out on the streets.

I'd add (since there's already a thread for the pro-democracy rallies) that the political landscape in Poland is very stormy now and it's anybody's guess what will happen next. Kaczynski expected to become a sort of Viktor Orban (and with church support) and so far that just isn't happening. Poland isn't Hungary.
