News / Coronavirus in Poland - part 2 [599]

I also had twice since my third vaccine

I was done after the second.... (AZ one of the reasons I did that was to avoid the mrna experiments)...

I'm not planning on any further vaccinations (I've never done flu vaccination).

And again, it was and remains a crime against humanity to force those under 50 (or maybe 40) to take it.

I've never been an "anti-vaxxer" and had the usual childhood vaccinations but the handling of the covid 'vaccines' was more full of red flags than a Mao Zedong birthday rally.

We all had them, and mine certainly worked

Mine didn't since I got covid twice (once for sure, second suspected).... did it help keep the symptoms in check? Who knows?

It is a vaccine.

Just a kind of crappy, leaky one that shouldn't have been given to anyone under 50....

Life / Poles turn their backs on organised religion. [148]

we are talking the definition of a Christian.

most would say it's about accepting ideas of Jesus Christ being born truly human and truly god, from the Virgin Mary, being crucified for human sins, dying and ascending to heaven and returning at some point in the future to judge the living and dead.

But a Southern Baptist and Greek Orthodox won't agree on much beyond that.... in general protestants rely more on scripture and Catholic and Orthodox rely more on the the church (each thinking they are the one true church), Mormons think of themselves as Christians but many/most other Christians don't necessarily agree, etc etc...

For evangelicals (esp Baptists) it's all about a 'personal relationship' with Jesus while Orthodox think no such thing, but rather share in divine energies that happen during thier long and arcane services (and may spend a lot of time interacting with icons). Catholics have communion, most protestants don't...

Food / What do non-Poles think about eating the following Polish foods? [1450]

turkey meat (basically biomass) used to be more expensive than chicken

My hierarchy of poulty

1. goose
2. duck
3. chicken
4. turkey

Mostly I think turkey is over-rated except as a carrier for stuffing, esp cornbread stuffing....

I've had other poultry (partidge, guinea fowl, pigeon, maybe others...) but none of it made any particular impression....

function efficiently. Dubai, for example

Gulf Arab states are very dysfunctional... they rely on imported labor with no real rights (muslims have no problem with slavery and that's how Gulf Arabs treat a lot of the workers their countries rely on).

don't allow Palestinians their own state

What makes you think they want their own state? Arabs are generally terrible at running states (I'm open to counter-evidence...).

They want to rid the region of Jews - they make that very clear.

Neither the "two state" nor "singular secular state" idea is wanted by either side. That leaves victory for one side and exile for the other.

why this "invented people" needed to be taken in in the first place

Because their inability to accept the proximity of Jews has destroyed their society. They could have had peace anytime they wanted... they don't want it, they want to run all the Jews out of the Middle East and they can't and they'll destroy themselves utterly before they accept that.

What's so hard to understand?

Interesting tweet from Eric Weinstein....

tldr: Yahya Sinwar invented a new method of war involving making the enemy kill civilians for photo ops.... trading Palestinian lives for video clips that could be used for propaganda....

why would they need taken in?

Look at Kuwait... there were a _lot_ of Palestinians working there when Iraq invaded... they virtually all supported the invasion and were kicked out after it was over.

The Gazans....are in fact Egyptians

Even Arafat was born in Egypt IIRC....

It's largely an invented ethnicity (lacking the markers that set some Arab groups apart from others) born out of hatred for the Jews....

What would that be?

They tend to stab allies in the back.... no country has taken them in and not regretted it. Maybe russia (on their side now) should start a service to settle there there.

What happened? Islam happened!

More accurate to say Palestinians happenned.... there's a reason that other arabs mostly all hate Palestinians and don't want them in their countries.

Language / Cultural disparities shown through Polish and English languages [195]

I saw the first few words of that on the front page (

I think I've only really heard the first three, I checked on a hunch that the others were in dictionaries.... there's also Dutchwoman which I may have heard and apparently Chinawoman (now offensive, like Chinaman).

So the only real way of forming explicitly female nouns for nationality is with -woman which is no longer productive (that is new forms can't be made).

And again the only two (ethno-racial, not nationality) words I've ever heard with -ess are Jewess and Negress (both offensive now).

Nouns for nationalities don't sound great in English, with a few historical exceptions

The only nouns for nationalities that have specifically female forms I can think of include

Frenchwoman, Englishwoman, Irishwoman, Welshwoman and Scotswoman.... The pronunciation of the first four are not always clearly distinguished (though they can be) from adj plus noun (English woman, French woman etc).

Lots of nationalities can be either nouns or adjectives depending on the context esp those ending in -an (American, Hungarian, Mexican, Chilean etc) national adjectives that end in -ese theoretically can be used as nouns though it sounds a bit awkard ?A Japanese ?A Portuguese? and those that end in -ish really resist nominalization *a Polish, *a Spanish *a Danish (about a person, not the pastry).

Anybody who opposes Poles and Polesses

Which seems to be everyone in the universe except you.... please provide information that anyone else is using that abomination.

"Pole" applies equally to men and women the same way 'German' or 'Canadian' or 'American'. Why introduce a sex distinction that's not needed?
