News / Poles march against Mandatory poisoning by vaccines [202]

The smart way to handle matters is for a doctor to sign off

There are groups who will certainly be exempt; people with certain auto-immune diseases like MS. How that will play out in terms of flights etc is too early to say.

five vaccines ... lived to be 90.

Quite, they were vaccinated.

Did people back then normally live to be 90? Life expectancy stats suggest otherwise. The only countries with average life expectancy over 85 are ones where vaccination is widespread.

all of a sudden recommended ($$$$)

Recommended gradually over decades (and free on the NHS and in Poland so no pecuniary motive).

maybe you should take ALL the vaccines available

Haven't most people in developed countries taken 'ALL' the vaccines available? Or at least all that are relevant to diseases in their environment.

Have you had polio? Or smallpox? If you've been spared those diseases, be thankful for vaccination.

Instead of burbling stupidly about lifesaving medical treatments.

Travel / Poland in photo riddles - part 2 [1680]

I wondered if it was religious due to the guy with the bowed head. Of course he could just be checking his phone...

Is it the Commandant's Cup? The contest they have each year in Kielce. Specifically the Wielobój Siłowy o Puchar Komendanta.

History / Film "Wałęsa" - historical reality vs myth - controvercies [110]

This is worth reading (use reader mode on Mac or iPad to get past the paywall, or just register).

What he was actually offended at was the Polish Embassy for not walking him through.

Go google that. You know how it goes

Yes. Nothing with 'fingers'. If it's the type of search that you're stupid idly trying to imply, they use x-ray. Wałęsa however didn't have that. They just checked his hand luggage like everybody else's. Why shouldn't they? He's not a diplomat.

Anglos are experts with their tiny greedy fingers.

Most of us have large fingers.

Large hands, large feet. You know what that means, ladies?

Life / Is cancer treatment in Poland covered free of cost or almost free of cost for people registered in NFZ/ZUS? [17]

miracle cures instead, which aren't proven

I've been bombarded with ads recently for something called 'normobaric therapy' (after googling certain cancers due to someone close who had and is now better). It seems to exist only in Poland and as far as I can see has no effects either positive or negative. It does cost money though.

At least 'MMS' and the fake cancer treatment 'black salve' (whih does zero good and a lot of harm) don't seem to have reached Poland yet.

Yeah it was two years ago

Sorry to hear about this. Thinking of you.

Life / Single mothers in Poland [175]

It's a bad deal even for a single father

is it? It sounds a good fit.

She and her kid would always come first and not he or his kids

And vice versa. There are thousands, if not millions, of blended families round the world. Most of them work.

Is that what you are saying?

It does look that way.

News / Abortion still under control in Poland [2986]

People that suffer of cerebral palsy, have it worse, they can't move

Some. It affects different people to different extents.

Nevertheless, the decision to continue with a pregnancy or not is a matter for the person who's pregnant. Nobody else. Nor do they need to disclose a reason.

Life / "Weird" "Strange" "Unique" Polish Customs [36]

a foreign customs

So is Christianity, unless Jesus was really called Przemysław and came from Rzeszów rather than Bet Lehem.

Christmas trees too, from Germany. Šw Mikołaj a Greek from what's now Turkey.

Every custom, every idea, every tradition has to start somewhere, only a few can truly be called home-grown.

And Halloween has been adopted wholeheartedly in Poland. As you may know, it's very big here now. Extremely big given all the celebrations, the merchandise, the special TV schedules. Bigger than in, say, the U.K. where Bonfire Night (and where I'm from, Mischievous Night) occurs at around the same time and also involves partying.

Language / "Poles" or "Polish people" - which is better to use? [200]

Spaniard"and "Frenchman" are both perfectly acceptable!

When talking about specific men, yes. If falling out of use now.

Poles, Finns, Danes, Greeks, Kurds, Turks etc are still used.

Drowning or burning Marzanna

I remember a teenage girl being drowned on that day a few years ago. It had happened before too.

hysteria against Halloween

I once attended a Dziady night; they still happen, albeit discreetly. One of the people takes the role of 'Guslarz'. It was interesting.

Food / British food products in Poland? [334]

the lack of variety in produce

It's got better, however some products have never been introduced here.

I think there used to be more distinctions made,

Just floury and waxy would be enough.

or something else?

I don't think it's to distract from anything. They're a weak government so far under the influence of Ordo Iuris etc that they've little option but to do it now.

Food / British food products in Poland? [334]

proper 'English' marmalade

Dealz used to have it (very cheaply as I remember). Not the very dark 'Oxford' kind but the clearer lighter 'Golden Shred' one. The jam here in Poland is fine, even very nice, however there's nothing like that bitter taste that comes from Seville oranges. Subtle and unique.

The nearest thing to it without Seville oranges is grapefruit marmalade however that's not cheap to make.

in the old days a disc of wax paper would also be put on top.

Some of still do.

Seville oranges

One thing I've never seen in Poland. Perhaps Makro have them in season however I've never noticed them.

Even orange Delicje are made with normal oranges.

History / Vilamovian language - now that's something interesting [24]

the Holy See.

They use it, there are people who speak it as a hobby, however it isn't tied to any given place and of course was a lingua franca. Even the city of Rome in the peak of classical times spoke mostly Greek for day to day use!

Wymysorys will last as a living language only as long as its last native speaker. Unless something is done quickly, and even then it's probably too late. Sadly it's one of many moribund languages.
