I think it is less about blood but more about circumstances. In case of Poland, the idea of freedom and nationhood which was suppressed by others at the time, needed some highly sound outlets, having a moral high ground reference to religion that is a common theme in similar circumstances.
In simple terms - if you can't do it you can dream, and if you dream, you dream big because why not?
If that makes you feel better.
Similarity with Russia is there.
In Russia everybody is semi-slave or a helot.
The reality that they are backwards barbarians who live in 'sh;t and have no prospect for a better life is dreary and not very appealing.
So why not dream big and imagine that Russia as a state holds some eternal truth, A holy grail of humanity preserved in holy Russia, and all suffering that Russian people experience is the result of the devil's work.
Sounds nice enough.
If you think it is far-fetched, ask Bobko and remember that even the devil believes he is doing a good work and represents the real truth.

To sum it up, our dynasty Piast, they knew they ABC in politics. they worked with real people and real problems.
Poetic ideas useful for preservation of the Polish identity during patritions unfortunately tainted Polish culture with impractical ideas.
Such ideas in politics are poison and disaster and as such should be avoided at all costs.
Dreams are for sleepers, for people who are awake, not very useful.
