History / Malinowo: Polish-Nazi Supression? [447]

Here's what DW say about the case:

Critics say the Polish government is whitewashing the role that some Poles played in the Holocaust.

Did you notice

An irrelevant comment, puppy.

Hugely and tied up with the PiS attempts to use the courts to further their political agenda as well as their attempts to punish historians who publish material they'd rather see suppressed.

it's not on the news in Poland

It's reported in the Polish media and has been throughout the case. Google is not always your friend.

I never said Malinowo in question is not in Poland

You said:

not in Poland

It's a tiny place near Bielsk Podlaski. A quite nice area as I remember. That stretch between Bielsk and Siemiatycze is lovely, however I prefer some of the places along the old Warsaw road like Liw and Męzenin (interesting history in Męzenin...).

there is no such town as Malinowo in Poland

There is however a place called Malinowo that's in the news right now.

The words city, county, town, township, village and hamlet are in the English language, and equivalents in Polish are not exact. Nor is how we use them a matter for others.

An article appeared in today's NYT

I saw that.

It's part of a wider issue and a current lawsuit.

There are allegations about abusing the courts in order to gag historians.

It's ok. Better than most of the shops that used to be. Just avoid their ready-made lasagne.

Pizza in Poland

Telepizza and DaGrasso are a crime against society. It's possible to get decent pizza though if you know where to go.

In what way and how are we superior?

Apex predators like lions can just lie around all day. The cheetah isn't an apex predator so evolved the skill to run faster than lions. We're crap at hunting, only have two legs rather than four, and are easy prey for a lot of species. So we evolved resourcefulness.

I'm sure that some people can make a vegan diet work

The most successful vegan I know doesn't describe herself as a vegan, doesn't feel the need to tell people all the time and occasionally enjoys (with the emphasis on the word enjoy) non-vegan things it if there's something with meat of fish that she really fancies eating. She looks 2 decades younger than her age and is extremely healthy.

More connected to another country.

isn't that the canal lock in Leśniewo Górne? Are those "two ladies" rivers?

It's near Leśniewo, however the key is the complex it's part of. This is a clue to the names of the two ladies (who aren't rivers).

And is there any

Sadly, time after time (The Siege of Leningrad, the Holodomor, various shipwrecks etc) people have had to do that.

Some mesolithic archeology also suggests it used to be commonplace among humans.

I once went on a pub crawl and for a curry with a famous cannibal (before he ate anybody). I found him to be a rather unpleasant and disturbed person.

"Freedom and Friendship"

Now that's the name of a certain well-known structure there, somewhere beginning with C. And people did once pay a certain kind of dues on it ...

If I'm right, I'll not say any more.

There's the Szlak Lenina, however I didn't think that went anywhere near there. Fits in with your 'all roads lead from Lenin' clue though.

The only place I really associate with Lenin (apart from Krakow) is Poronin, and that's not near there.

There were Lenin statues in Ciesyn and Bielsko, however the picture isn't either of those.

Probably near Cieszyn though...

Not the Olza? I didn't think that was a tributary of the Oder.

There's a Lenin connection too, with that area...
