Oh geez, I don't get it ...
Firstly, Poland doesn't have a problem with thousands of Muslim immigrants. Why do some keep mentioning them? We really have some more serious current problems. Like our healthcare to name one.

Secondly, there is still place for people of different beliefs in Poland. Yet nawoływanie do nienawiści na tle roznic narodowosciowych is illegal. That's why he got arrested.

Michnik is in charge of Wyborcza which criticises the far right and that's right he's hated by them.
Gross' s half Jewish - half Polish family was forced to leave Poland under the communist rule. That's probably why he hates Poland so much now.

It's not black and white really.
As for Jews in position of power, pretty much every prominent Polish politician has been 'accused' of Jewish origin by the far right. Including Kaczyński as mafketis pointed out.

About 39% were Jews - some from the USSR - more Soviet than Jewish. I doubt they celebrated Sabbath. And wasn't the effigy of the Jew an orthodox one? What's patriotic about antisemitism?

As for defending the country, I pray we don't have to do it in the nearest future. As who will do it, I can assure you we Poles unite in the times of trouble regardless of different views. It's a pity it seems do hard in times of peace.

I also absolutely despise people giving a Nazi salute and expressing their antisemitism. Far more current than Marx who passed away in the 19th century. It was Bolsheviks in 1920, Soviets in 1939-45 and Stalinists after the war who endangered Poland.

Schiedeck sounds German, too and seems to be used as a surname in Germany. There's a mountain called Schiedeck in Austria.
Your family might have been German or polonised Germans. Or Silesians.
It would be transcribed as Szidek in Polish. According to moikrewni.pl there are 16 people using this name in Poland, mostly in Silesia. There might be other other variations of the spelling , too.

Slovaks I have met were ok. It's hard to say what you expect but Poles also may seem a bit reserved when approached by a stranger. There are exceptions, of course. Just because someone doesn't grin all over just because they see you doesn't mean they're unfriendly.
