Food / Poland Spirytus recipes [39]

here is a good recepie-------Enjoy
1.Soak green tea leaves in warm water, just enough to get them to loosen up.
2.Strain tea leaves; add leaves to blender. Add fruit and a couple of vitamin C tabs.
3.Blend like whoa.
4.Add enough vodka (or gin, if you must) to the blender fruit and leaves to cover. The stronger the vodka, the better.
5.Let the whole mess stand for 24-48 hours. The ethanol will extract the anti-oxidant goodness from the fruit and tea leaves—even more than you’d get if you were to eat them.

6.Strain fruit and tea pulp out, leaving behind only liquid goodness.

7.Drink! Have a shot each morning to loosen up the heart and the spirit.

Food / Pierogi recipe and filling from my grandmother [179]

Here is the defference between between Cottage and Farmer's cheese:

Cottage cheese is the fresh drained curds of slightly soured, low fat pasteurized milk. When the curds are drained, the cheese is called cottage cheese . Allow the curds to drain longer and it is called pot cheese. Press the remaining moisture out so it becomes drier and crumbly, and it is called farmer's cheese

Food / Polish Sour Milk / Maślanka [44]

You might try this:
1 cup (225 ml) whole milk
1 tbsp (15 ml) lemon juice or vinegar
Preparation
Place the lemon juice or vinegar into a cup of whole milk--the closer the milk is to room temperature, the better.
Stir and let sit for 10 minutes.
You now have sour milk

Food / What is your favorite Polish Vodka? [653]

Orkisz vodka-- which is made of spelt wheat – a unique and rare variety of wheat harvested at the foot of the Polish mountains –.

After trying it I find it has a distinct and mellow flavour.

Ultimat Vodka is a truly a decadent ultra-premium vodka product in its handsome Polish hand-blown cobalt blue and clear heavy crystal bottle with a crystal and cork stopper. Ultimate vodka is made from a blend of potato, wheat and rye, whereas most vodkas are either made from potatoes or grain.

I tried this vodka chilled and found it to have a smooth richness, with a pleasant, subtle clean aftertaste

Called black pudding, made of blood, fat & offal, tastes marvellous cut up and fried. Try blood pudding/sausage/polser in with some baked beans. Skin the sausage first. The sausage should gradually dissolve as the fat melts leaving you with a dark brown crusty glop, with lumps in it. It tastes great on buttered toast. I usually add a drop of milk, and a little cheese at the end of cooking .Yum Yum!!!! We love such food in Poland :)

'czarnina' is known across Poland. Board of health regulations now prevent the sale of blood in butcher shops, so only those who raise their own poultry or know someone who does can regularly enjoy the soup.

Food / Polish Pizza !! The best in the world? [330]

It is believed by almost every person in the world that pizza was invented by the Italians, making it an Italian recepie---well----Guess what !!!!!!! However, one can trace the origin of the snack back to the ancient times. As per the earlier records, Babylonians, Israelites, Egyptians and other ancient Middle Eastern people used to eat a flat, un-leaven bread, which was cooked in mud ovens and had an appearance somewhat similar to the pizzas we eat today

By the turn of this century, Italians had begun to open their own bakeries and were selling groceries as well as pizza. Gennaro Lombardi opened the first true U.S. pizzeria in 1905 in New York City at 53 1/3 Spring Street (Lombardi's is reopened today at 32 Spring Street).

and I quote--"The best pizza still comes from Brooklyn Pizza Works and Italian Restaurant."

I had bought a bottle of Goldschager and decided to strain the gold out of the bottle before drinking it. Total weight of all gold in the bottle weighed less than 0.1grams.The gold didn't even register on a scale.!!!!!At todays price of gold,it was only worth $1.38
