News / Grzegorz Braun extinguishes Hanukkah candles in Polish Parliament [425]

C'mon.. he was hilarious.

hillarious is not what most people in Poland think a politcian should be, especially when you are, as I said "just talk, no walk" as he is perceived by most Poles by now (though I believe a hillarious politician who would manage to be also effective would be a deadly combination in Polish politics (deadly to his opponents))

Not very effective.... dumb way of going about it....

he was counting on his personall appeal and the ability, you know ... to talk (at least in my opinion)- in my opinion, also, Hołownia had no dreams (like grounded dreams) of becoming a president

I just keep trying (and failing) to come up with any reason for his candidacy in the first place

I may be overestimating my deductive powers but I am pretty sure Hołownia's running for presidency was his attempt to strengthen his party's image in the face of diminishing support - he greatly overestimated his personal appeal though it seems (he probably likes basking in popularity like in his early days as the speaker of the parliament when his antics were popular among voters of PO et al and were even streamed on the internet - he is a sleek interlocutor - but most Poles see he is just talk no walk by now )

I do have some concerns about whether he will end up supporting Trzaskowski now.

your understanding of the Polish politics is somehow still subpar, mafketis - I have no doubts Hołownia will support Trzaskowski and I am ready to bet 1000 dollars on that

Po polsku / Papież a sprawa polska [191]

"if" is not always translated as "czy" into Polish - in this case the correct translation is "jeśli"

Edit: also I was wrong about his address being short - the fragment I saw was short but I just checked the transcript (in English) of his address and it wasn't that short at all

Ale czy on mowi po wlosku?

History / Poland and Britain started WW2 [356]

Rich, I said were it not for Americans, Russians might have not won the war against Germany - you said: "but were it not for Russians there would be no D-Day" - sure, they wouldn't: that's why I said "Americans didn't win the II World War on their own" - I hope you understand now

Rich, focus, I never said it was Americans who won the war on their own - dismiss

"Combined"

were it not for American trucks, American beef, American boots and plenty other things American, the Soviets would have had much harder time beating Germans if they would have ever succeeded in it

News / Presidential elections 2025 - the race has commenced!!! [665]

That's interesting....it's similiar in Germany!

although it isn't? - the Polish president has the power to veto any new legislation - to overturn presidential veto you need 3/5 of the parliament

News / Will PiS be happy if AfD wins elections in Germany? [1292]

PiS will be in a minority throughout most of the EU.

so what? if AfD rules Germany the current political trends in the EU will be no more

Merz flew to Paris and Warsaw on his first day in office

yeah - it means that keeping Poland in Germany's fold is really important to German politicians, mostly

Who is Manx?

I think there are three legs in the coat of arms of Manx island which lies in the Irish Sea and has some unique legal status within the UK

"o czymś" jest też OK. Uratowałeś się w ostatnim momencie.

Ironside (in his own words) suffers from "dyzortografia", IIRC

Feedback / Suggestions for forum features [14]

Bobko was complaining about the same thing too.

there was this feature called ignoring in the forum before - is it gone now? (I never used it anyway though) It's not gone.

It's possible to report a PM message too or to ban a user from sending a PM or to disable receiving PM messages completely.

History / Is there any part of Polish history that's at least a bit glorious? [239]

It seems the farmer got their word already in:

thanks, didn't know that - I just wonder what the quotas will be and for which products (as far as I know the EU doesn't import grains - somehow the excerpt doesn't mention grains)

Everything related to the Disciplinary Chamber of the Supreme Court for instance.

the Disciplinary Chamber of the Supreme Court doesn't exist since July 2022

If such a treaty is so bad for polish agriculture then there should be lotsa Poles in Brusse

not when Tusk is in power - he will sell Polish farmer's down the drain only to remain in favour of the German elites in my opinion - it's not a coincidence that debate over the Mercosur deal is postponed until after the Polish presidential election if you ask me

as for Draghi report you can even find general information in the wikipedia - in Polish media I watch there was more about it

No longer regular payments into the EU-pockets to be shared by the fellow EU-members..

there is an official EU report that calls for drastic cuts in EU cohesion funds and other forms of subsidising "new Europe" (you think it somehow was created against the will of German leadership?) - search for "Draghi report"
also the current Brussel administration negotiated a free-trade deal with Mercosur - if it is accepted, European (read: mainly German) manufactured goods will be free of tariffs in big part of South America and their (Argentinian, Brazilian) agricultural products will reach our markets duty-free - the last part would obliterate Polish agriculture - how is that not German-centric?
