News / There is no Poland without the Church! [178]

that's rightAtch, it is not ideal but is likely to be a safer environment in many cases.
\I really do resent Polonius's take on 'single mummies' as he often suggests that they are basically w.hores.
WTF?

maybe it would be better to raise our children with wife and child beating, alcoholism, and children's money being spent on booze?
The good old traditional way eh Polonius?

obviously PF is not representative of 'the average Pole' as its language is English....
therefore most of us are, would be PolAms, some who have moved to Poland, and some who have Polish parents or spouses.
Stating the bleedin obvious.

Love / Polish women and fertility [28]

Any idea why Ireland makes so many more babies than Poland? Is it because polish women are more likely to ignore what the church tells them, or because Irish gals are more virile?

no it because there is more money in Ireland, obviously.

News / Abortion still under control in Poland [2986]

why on earth would you LOL at that?
it is not an infant, it is a clump of cells. Until a certain point - then I absolutely agree that it should not be terminated.

12 weeks something like that?

News / Abortion still under control in Poland [2986]

polonius a woman who seeks an abortion is not a 'rabid feminist'.
Would it be better for her to go the back street butcher?

yes there are a lot of dark secrets there, probably in the UK too.
Did you ever hear about the 'Magdalen Laundries'?
The last one closed in the mid 90s.
'Poor' women indeed.

Ireland is the same gosc., with the Monday morning flight from Dublin to London also known as 'the abortion express'.
well that is OK if you have the money.
A horrible situation for women, no wonder so many of them do not want to have sex with random foreigners.

History / Good enough for British - Joseph Conrad? Poland-born novelist. [30]

oh there are quite a few literary 'names' like that - eg Wordsworth and his sister Dorothy which explains why some of his poetry is so dire, while some is good. Who wrote what, only they knew.

oh and 'Dick Francis' is also two people, Richard and Frances.

History / Good enough for British - Joseph Conrad? Poland-born novelist. [30]

yes I have noticed some little oddities in Conrad that show he was not a native speaker.
I suppose his comments just illustrate that English is a flexible, accommodating language and should not be taken as insults.
in the Nigger of the Narcissus, are they really putting 'N- word' throughout?
What about Huckelberry Finn? Will all references to the big nigger Jim also have to be redacted?

Language / Busha and JaJa [140]

god it is like Groundhog day in here.
LIDL here in 'wales had some pierogi that were full of potato and cheese - a bit bland but comforting.

Life / Are foreigners welcome in Poland? [267]

it IS quite bad tbh. Like you go into a shop and the two assistants stare at you and start whispering to each other!

Work / What is a good monthly salary for an English teacher in Poland? [124]

actually Romek, I agree with you about the adventure aspect.
Nonetheless many English teachers do return home to continue their teaching careers. There is lucrative work at British universities for example, teaching those thousands and thousands of foreign students who are so keen for a British education. A couple of years teaching in Poland would be a good foundation for moving on to the diploma and MA and better bucks. This will not happen if you are an unqualified Callan teacher.

I am not 'mocking' anyone just offering advice based on experience.

Work / What is a good monthly salary for an English teacher in Poland? [124]

What do you base that assessment on?

many years in the industry. FWIW, Berlitz and Callan are like jokes.
I have worked for Berlitz when I was desperate, but I certainly wouldnt put it on my CV. Callan I would not touch.
You are right, you have to admire someone with sticking power. But he would be better off getting a qualification and working in a proper language school.

Work / What is a good monthly salary for an English teacher in Poland? [124]

She didn't get many takers and was short of money so she put the price up to 60zl and got a lot more enquiries...

you know there is something in that. In my education related business I realised a lot of people were undercutting me wildly so I raised my price.

Work / Language Teachers - do you feel respected in Poland? [86]

GOSC that is complete bollocks.
Virtrually impossible to find a job anywhere in Europe without a degree, a teaching certificate and some teaching experience.
Now if you were talking about eg Vietnam you might have a point. But you only insult yourself with such posts.

Real Estate / Polish law on inheritance and real estate [42]

in the UK what you say would be true, but I think there would have to be some time lapse between the transfer and the death of the owner.

Also you only have to pay tax if it is over a certain amount. But of course Poland will have different laws.
If I were you I would consult a lawyer.
