I hate being a prophet of doom but it seems my words are coming true. The US politicians voted the budget without aid for Ukraine and Slovakia has chosen a pro Russian party to lead the country.

In the light of those only two events, the conflict over grain import which Ukrainians so happily aggravated by reporting on Poland to world institutions, seems like suicidal.

One of President Zelensky`s advisors who resigned last February warned of those suicidal tendencies in Ukrainian leaders.

There is a documentary titled Workers 80 on youtube. I watched it in the commie cinema in 1980. The film shows negotiations with communists in the Gdansk shipyard which resulted in the creation of Solidarity. Wałesa is a charismatic leader who utters these famous words at the end of the film: At last, we have our independent , self governing trade unions! Watch it at 1:28:49 - Wałęsa carried by workers on their shoulders. Amazing scenes - I was still quite young then but fully realised the importance of the events. Communism was collapsing on my eyes. Wonderful times......... :):):)

Lech Wałęsa turned 80 today. Happy birthday!
The man made history and despite a lot of controversial decisions and statements and accusations of being an agent, he DID contribute to dismantling communism in Poland. That is why I will always respect him.

Also, additional respect for the fun side he tried to smuggle in on various occassions. Check his giant pen which he used to sign historic Gdansk agreement with communists in 1980 which gave rise to Solidarity movement. My parents said the pen was clownish but I loved it.

Why is there a shortage of fuel? Experts point out that oil company Orlen is lowering fuel prices because it can dictate prices, but it produces too little fuel itself. According to Dawid Czopek's calculations, Orlen's production meets only two-thirds of the demand for diesel and about 80 percent for gasoline. The rest of the fuel has to be imported, and no one artificially lowers prices abroad. Moreover, the fuel market expert points out that foreign fuel should cost PLN 7.30, not PLN 6. No company will sponsor fuel purchase, so no one imports fuel.

When in the US in 1990s, I used to watch Am TV a lot for my language development. I still remember that commercial for an auto repair station with this slogan: we`ll give you a lift without taking you for a ride. I considered it extremely clever at the time.

I forgot to add there is a funny transfer between films - Polish tankers are aided by a German officer who is in fact a Polish agent/mole. alluding to the main character in another WW2 series titled Stake Higher than Life.

The driver of the tank is Georgian but when Germans call him a Pole, he corroborates. Later he hears the Georgian war song while preparing for the mortal ride.
