badger tracks

thesittingfox.co.uk/Badger%20track%20ID.jpg

I love tracking while walking.
One of the interesting things about humans is we are audio visual creatures, most animals rely heavily on smell.
I think a good way to imagine it is a dog distinguishes scents like we see colours.

Badgers are not aggressive towards humans , and will leg it at the first smell or sign of a human....

hornets are not aggressive unless you mess around their nest or try to catch one

Yeah, other animals fear us, I can't blame them really.
Except mosquito, I hate mosquito and man do they LOVE me.
If I could wipe out all mosquitos, even though it would destroy the food chain and possibly kill all humans from starvation.
I would have to consider it carefully, pretty mean for a vegetarian, huh? :)

Stupid question No. 2538142325
Have you ever heard the story, that if a badger bites you, you are supposed to snap a twig, then the badger will think they have cracked your bone?

because they have lock jaw and you would need a machine to unfasten it's grip.
It sound silly now I write it, anyone?.

I have never heard of anyone ever being attacked by a badger, they are very shy animals, by shy of course I mean scared that humans will kill them.

I saw one of those lizards, that look like a snake today.Click here

Don't laugh, I come from Ireland and in Ireland there are no snakes (except those in government),
so it is something to write home about :)

And around the mountains here I see quite a few birds of prey, wonderful graceful creatures, there are many different birds here, with beautiful songs most of the day.

But the birds of prey are kings of the sky, they move so effortlessly, with a flick of their wing-tip, they sore through the sky.

Hopefully in a week or two I will be able to photograph them and other birds.

History / Communism fell 20 years ago, Poland led the fight since WW2 [339]

4 June -semi-free elections in Poland.

I am reading about this now,
35% of the seats in the parliament were up for the real elections after the Sejm agreement.
The rest of the seats went to the commies.
Solidarity got 160 out of 161 available seats.
62.7% of the population voted, the highest number on record.

I thought this was interesting.
"Only a few days before June 4 the party Central Committee was discussing the possible reaction of the Western world should Solidarity not win a single seat. At the same time the Solidarity leaders were trying to prepare some set of rules for the non-party MPs in a Communist-dominated parliament, as it was expected that the Solidarity would win not more than 20 seats."

From Wiki en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Contract_Sejm
Boy oh boy, did the people speak.

Real Estate / Building a house in Poland need advice from anyone that has built [100]

The land has permission for a house of 80 sq meters

That should work out to be fairly cheap to build.

However i have the plans for a cottage roughly 70feet x 45 feet.

You are mixing Feet and metres.
Stick to metres, nobdy uses feet here.

How much based an your experience can a person build a house for in poland

Prices are completely different in that area, have never built there, it is the other side of the country.
I would assume, it would be cheaper than MaƂapolska.

As for building we are planning on doing it ourselves.

I understand that this might seem a good idea because it appears to be cheaper.
I would recommend getting a qualified builder to do the job properly.
You can pick up architectural drawings, pre-made, they are cheap enough.
And you can make all of the applications yourself.
But I have to stress, that a competent qualified builder is very important, they will save you money in the long run.

Which general area is the plot in?, I understand if you don't want to say, this is the internet.

Real Estate / Building a house in Poland need advice from anyone that has built [100]

The land owner is selling of plots of 14 in total, of land wich he had gotten permission to sell as indvidual building plots.

I recommend going to the town hall to find out what exactly you can build, how many floors, how many metres square, sometimes even angle of roof is important.

If they don't have a general plan, it is different.
Perhaps the seller could provide you with this information but you are better off going to the source for accuracy.

There is a well, and there are at least 20 houses near by so i didn't think that electric connection would be a problem.

I am not trying to worry you but often towns and cities in Poland are not equipt to supply more houses.

Have you build in poland?

Yes.

how long will it take to get planning permission, and services connected

It has just been made more efficiant to get construction permission.
It really depends on the town hall and how efficient they are.
Service connections all depends on where you have to connect from.

I am not trying to be evasive, there are some general rules but I recommend finding out this information first.

Hello sueswalkies,

Has the land been designated for building purposes (general plan)
or is there a house on the plot, which you can rebuild?.

Does it have services, sewage, electricity, water, gas?.

Find a competent architect and builder.

Life / Electricity in Poland: plug and voltage? [73]

Your welcome.

(don't know why but the reply messages wouldn't come up on my computer until about ten minutes after they were posted!)

They don't come up automatically, you have to refresh the page otherwise, I don't know.

Life / Electricity in Poland: plug and voltage? [73]

CAT NEEDS A CUP OF TEA IN POLAND !!!
Are you the cat?.

The standard voltage in Poland is 220 volts at 50 Hz.
Please note that 110 volts at 60 Hz equipment requires a special voltage adapter!

They are also two pin plug here.

Edit...
Ah I see by your profile, you are in Belfast, then you just need the normal, three pin to two pin plug adaptor, it can be found in any hard ware shop or at the airport

Life / How far apart do Poles stand when they talk? [46]

How far apart do Poles stand when they talk?

Poles apart.

In India/Nepal/ south America it is common for males to touch as they talk.
They hold hands as they walk down the street or arm in arm.
They are not homosexual.
This is sometimes very uncomfortable for Europeans as we have a different concept of personal space.

I believe (I have no proof) that this is why we are known as the ice people.
There is a definite change in character of people the further North you go.

Real Estate / House prices in Poland to drop more or rise again? [228]

certain banks are not even entertaining clients with exceptional credit history and 30% down payments.

I agree with you.
I would just add to the bit I quoted.
Banks only give money to the people who have it.

Life / Why are Poles always so miserable? Why do they never smile? [512]

Absolutely
not
officer ;)
Excuse my poor taste and stupid sence of humour but I couldn.t help myself and I meant no offence at your good self Mr. Bubbles.

But you got to admit "I smile a lot. I'm smiling now. I smile when I'm eating soup and I'm usually wanking a grinning Chinaman in a lesson." brings a whole new meaning to the song " I'm for ever blowing bubbles!" :)

Again excuse me, if i had a choice I would probably us it, 50/50, phone a friend or ask the audience.

i don't care how boring i look when i eat my soup.

I do not think there is one male (possibly female) on here that would think the way you eat soup, doesn't put the way i described MrBubbles eating soup to shame.

You're just jealous cos you've never had good soup. :)

Possibly :)

describe how you eat tomato soup and how much fun it is for everyone around you to look at it

If I may,
When MrBubbles eats his tomato soup,
He beams with glee in his white suit,
His monkey butler astounds the onlookers by doing somersaults without dropping his tray laden with coffee and red wine.
MrBubbles himself has everyone's ear by gurgling his national anthem.
All choreographed to fire works in the background.

And that my dear friends is just for starters.

I'm sure I will have a lot of fun.

I am sure too, it is supposed to be a wonderful place and lots of sun.

I think you will find that Sean was being facetious.

Off-Topic / What's your connection with Poland? Penpals. [554]

Sweet story Randal.

I am connected to Poland through an umbilical cord which fills me full of helium as I float 2 kilometres from the surface of the earth.

During festivals they pull me down, paint me and parade me along the streets.
I don't mind so much but it is a bit chilly round my willy.
