News / What will Britain's Labor Coup mean for Poland? [100]

I understand that 40 of the population did not vote, i.e. approximately 60% of voters voted. That seems like a lot to me..

Your argument is flawed, it was the lowest turn out since early 2000. People working abroad can vote by post, if they are sick they can get someone (officially), to place their vote. There is no way someone would forget about the election, it was in the media 24 hours a day for 6 weeks.

You mean vote for Labour? A clear majority of those who bothered to vote in 412 constituencies put an X next to the Labour candidate.

These poor souls were just foot soldiers for Starmer, put an X to the Labour candidate box, and you get Starmer and his crew in number 10.

So no, capitalists and Socialists are not "two cheeks of the same arse".

The two main UK political parties were both singing from the same hymn sheet, no doubt there was some higher authority pulling their strings. let's remember to visit this thread in 4 or 5 years time, to see if there are any changes.

Some people simply didn't vote, but if they had, they would have voted for him

How did you figure that out?

40% of the population didn't vote because the Tories and Labour are two cheeks of the same arse. Ones as bad as the other.

Won. With a supermajority.

Labour won by default, Tory voters voted for Farage and many stayed at home.

Most people don't obsess about migration, and fewer than one in five voted for that fascistic grifter Farahe.

80% of the country didn't vote for Starmer, that's 4 out of 5 of the population didn't want Starmer. Let's see how happy Labour voters are when this government run the country into the ground over the next 4 or 5 years.

UK, Ireland / "Strange " English language.. [264]

Apparently she's from Bolton

At least we weren't a million miles away with our guesses.

That's my gut feeling.

I used to visit some friends in Stoke quite often, as well as my aunt in Stockport, and somewhere in between, I've heard that accent.

she's a bit closer to both Mancs

I would say that also. BTW she has a wicked sense of humour and I can't believe I've never heard of her before.

Hard to say but probably somewhere driveable from Macclesfield and south Stockport.

I think you hit the nail on the head there.

Plus there's an element of tribalism; Man U are RC, Man City are Protestant.

Never heard or read anything about this in all my years following football. Now, Rangers and Celtic would be a different matter of course.

Getting back to topic, what accent is this strange (but cute) English language?

I couldn't make it out at all.

Most YouTube videos have subtitles, and can be useful sometimes.

Off-Topic / Things We Love [330]

Mostly though the Scottish and Irish don't add water, let alone ice. It's drunk neat.

I've seen "hot whiskeys" served in many pubs in NI, as a remedy for the common cold.

Is Black Bush its RC equivalent? I remember someone saying that to me but they weren't from Ireland.

Black Bush is also stronger than the more common Bushmills white label.

Off-Topic / Things you can't get used to in your new country [95]

It was completely normal. But when I was still going to England, I was told that not only the electrics in Victorian houses are strange, but also a few other things.

Back in the day, there was no health and safety, so anyone could do their own wiring, and this lead to many strange (and dangerous) circuits. New regulations were brought in about 15 years ago to stop this, and now if you do some wiring, you need to get a qualified electrician to inspect it, and issue a certificate to proved it was checked.

It's too dangerous, ok. Then why it's not that dangerous in the kitchen?

It is dangerous in the kitchen if you touch a socket with wet hands. The main ring circuit is protected by a RCB, which means you could get a shock, but it probably wouldn't kill you. The only socket allowed in a UK bathroom is a shaver socket with a two prong connection (there are no switches to turn it on or off), and is at half the voltage compared to the kitchen, it is also possible to buy an adaptor to charge a toothbrush, which is safe. You will also notice that the light switches in a bathroom are a pull cord type as well, this is to stop people with wet bodies touching anything electrical.

Feedback / "Ignore" option for certain posters [69]

Careful there Skinny, are you saying that on my Private Profile Notice on 1-5-19 that I was not suspended for not using my Ignore Function ?

If you are going back to 4 years ago, then yes you were. However, that suspension was given by the owner of this site and not by me.

LISTEN YOU GUYS, I GOT SUSPENDED BY FAT VINNY FOR NOT USING MY IGNORE FUNCTION !

A couple of points. First, I haven't suspended you for not using your ignore function, and there would plenty of other reasons to do so than that. I'm guessing you could be in the early stages of Dementia, or had a little too much moonshine. There has been no warnings on your profile, to suggest 'you had a time-out', nor has there been a red sad emoji next to your username in this last couple of days.

Next, you have been listening to the self-proclaimed 'King of the internet' Cargo pants, who nearly always get things wrong. I wouldn't mind betting that I'm 25 kilos lighter than both of you, judging by your photos posted on these forums. I also don't have diabetes, which is another false piece of information posted by the Indian "troll king" of the internet. Have a nice day, slim Jim. :-)

Life / Polish Music. [303]

The rules apply to everyone. It is our American members that are posting most of the off topic posts on the main threads, hence they receive the most warnings. Simple maths!

Edited.. Please try to keep this thread for Polish music, thanks.

Don't mistake canned/censored with off topic posts. On the main threads, posts have to be on topic with the subject of the thread. Posts that are off topic will be removed to random chat, and furthermore, posts that reply to off topic posts (or quote off topic posts) will also be removed. If members don't want to see their posts removed, it is up to them to follow the forums rules.

But other forums allow embedded videos.

Other forums could be playing a form of Russian roulette, and like to gamble. They might not get a complaint about the videos for years, and then one day someone takes offence, and drags them through the courtrooms. They could stand to lose a lot of money.

Besides, the videos on here are not deleted. It should not be a big issue to add www. to the link, open a new page and paste it into the address bar. It may also be a good idea to give a short description of the video when you post one, then other posters will know if it will be of interest to them.

How come it's OK on FB and some other forums just like this one?

FB are part of "Big Tech" and can do whatever they want, as money is no problem to them. To others, it is illegal to share anything that you didn't create without the permission of the owner.

Don't take my word for it, google it yourself.

Feedback / I love this forum - It's so Polish: tolerant, inconsistent, amusing [337]

I think that it means that I can call people - a jerk or a moron without mods butting in!

This forum is for people, new and old, to read and find out all things about Poland. How do you think it would look for new people, if every time they come here all they see is posters calling each other derogatory names? They probably wouldn't post anything or stay around for long.

Do you think that freedom of speech is the same as a free-for-all?

Off course, you are correct, it's not. Where does one draw the line? Soon it would turn to racism and hate speech. Like you said, it can't be a free for all, or the forums would look quite a bit like Stormfront. This site has also been more tolerant with members than most sites.

Food / Polish Salted Butter [68]

I buy Kerrygold in Poland for between 10 and 12 zl for a 200g pack.

Seems about the going price at the moment. I normally buy Kerrygold in ASDA for £2 per 250g. Not a big fan of salted butter, but Kerrygold (in my store anyway) has only 1.8g per 100g, so basically next to nothing. I don't think it's too expensive compared to some margarines, and others butters in those plastic tubs.

UK, Ireland / Boris Johnson - is the new British PM a popular figure in Poland? [150]

If your fear or dislike of this makes you want to vote for a party who are trashing the country

I'm not happy about Boris being stabbed in the back, (I thought he was OK) nor am I happy with the final two 'wanna be' PM's, but there is no way Starmer should be allowed to run the country. We will just have to wait and see if the new PM will make a difference in the next two years.

What does that even mean?

In basic form, it is 'extreme PC', closely related to virtue signalling

As do our national football team. Most people don't get worked up about that.

As above, many people like myself, haven't watched professional football for 2 seasons because of this.

What is a woman?, is a question that has a simple answer, and has been used for millennia. I'm afraid Starmer has shot himself in the foot.

They do. A huge chance.

Sorry jon, but Starmer is too woke. Working people won't forget how he took the knee for BLM, and how he tied himself up in knots when asked "what is a woman"? He is also on record as saying 'women can have a penis', and 'it's wrong to say that only women have a cervix'.

By trying to please a very small percentage, he has lost many votes from biological women, who account for half the population of the UK.

(When you get time that is) Hoot !

It could have been an interesting thread, even if it is an off topic thread. It simply not worth my time to go through 17 pages deleting posts at the moment. I might find time in the near future, but I fear it will become more trashed as days go by.
