News / Should Poland exit the EU immediately? [377]

don't talk about what you don't know!

Problem is, everyone that talks like him is as stupid and self righteous as they come, especially those from across the pond, and some on this side too.

EU is the best thing to happen to Poland in modern history. Yes it is not perfect, but nothing is perfect in this world.

News / Nuclear Power in Poland? Yes, please! Absolutely nobody disagrees! [73]

clean coal

Does not exist. It is a myth created to justify spending billions of taxpayers' zlotys to save the coal industry for purely political reasons.
Renewable is the way to go, and until that happens, nuclear is the best stopgap for now.

Language / Is the term 'Polak' derogatory?? [254]

Is there no neutral term or are the Rooskies so permeated with Poliniphobia

Dokładnie. Exactly. The term is in theory neutral, but in sociocultural sense, well, yes it is exactly what you're thinking.

Would you believe that one of my old Russian buddies (born and raised Moskowite) refused to come to my wedding because my wife is Polish? Well, that is admittedly extreme, but reflective of some of the more extreme but not uncommon sociocultural attitudes.

Poliaczyszka

Is it always offensive? Or just disrespectful; belittling in a sense? I think it Depends on context really.

In some sociocultural context, even basic "польский" or "поляк" (Polskiy or Polyak) can be used in an offensive sense. That is how much they socioculturally love Poles.

Life / News on driving in Poland [57]

Ford Mondeo

Since that post (Jan 2013), a sizeable fleet of Opel Insignias has been added. All the ones that I have spotted have been black hatchbacks, mostly with Mokotów plates, but I have seen some with Śródmieście, Katowice and Olsztyn plates too.

Law / Allegro.pl shipping costs and methods - what's the best [12]

I sell heat pumps and other stuff on Allegro, and you have to remember, it is an e-marketplace (similar to ebay) where different sellers offer different ways of shipping (for example I only offer DPD at the moment). You are not actually buying from Allegro, but from a seller offering their goods via Allegro.

I once purchased a spare part (from a seller through Allegro) that cost 1 zloty, picked up myself because cost of shipping was 12 zloty. Totally normal.

Those migrants will be beaten and forced to move

Unlike what you folks think in whatever backwater you hail from, that won't happen. Individual cases may happen (leading to lengthy jail terms for hate crimes for the offenders) but as a whole, Poles are not intolerant.

History / Time for Slavic Commonwealth around Poland as center [223]

I think Orban's recent course of action will sabotage your dreams Crow.
Can you believe he fired tear gas into Serbian territory, and injured people standing on Serbian land?

Law / Is it illegal in Poland / Schengen zone to transport refugees inside? [22]

I asked a lawyer friend for you because this is a significant question.

Their advice is: It is a legally tricky subject, so don't do it. If you insist on doing it then for sure don't go across borders.

If you want to help, better donate to NGO's or go and volunteer at a reception center or even volunteer to transport staff and donations to/from the reception centers if you are particularly keen to help in terms of logistics.

counterbalance equally to the western European and Russian power in the region

It wouldn't be strong enough to counterbalance either of these two. If anything, it might just dilute the position of EU against Russia.

Begins Forming Intermarium

I doubt they will all overcome their difference. Although I am in favor of all unions that make Poland stronger, anything involving Russia is simply recreating the system where Moscow decides everything. Sounds familiar?

News / Degenerate "rainbow" eyesore to disappear from Saviour Square (Plac Zbawiciela) in Warsaw [297]

help the police

Well in terms of every drunk, degenerate, ultranationalist, neonazi, homophobe, xenophobe and loser hitting the rainbow before they commit more serious crimes, then sure, they will be attracted to the rainbow like moths to the flame. The police should just wait for them around the corner and sort them out.

The project is 100% financed by a private Swedish entity. Maintenance will be conducted by volunteers (including me) and energy (for lighting and pumps) will come entirely from renewable resources. Meaning ZERO cost to taxpayer on both short and long term.

In terms of protection, I mentioned earlier a system that sprays vandals with fluorescent colorful paint, and I wasn't kidding. It will also alert the police upon unauthorized access. There is also an automatic sprinkler system for fire suppression.

You have to understand the size of this thing to appreciate how grand it will be. It will be as tall as 20-floor building!

The new rainbow will have an automatic fire suppression system. Due to its size, it is technically classified as a "building" and therefore must meet certain criteria, including safety regulations.

I mentioned earlier it will span 65 meters from end to it, and it will be large enough inside for a person to climb into it and walk across to the other side. The base dimensions are more than 2m x 2m but I don't have the exact number.

The sponsor will issue new 3D renderings soon hopefully.

They also plan to install colored LED lights (solar powered) so it remains illuminated day and night.

billboard to hide it from view

That would need 2 billboards each 65m x 65m = 4225 square meters. Impossible to build from an engineering standpoint at the site.

bins

I think the only one who needs a bin is you sir :) There are neat portable ones, fondly called nocnik in Poland. Grab one and carry it along since so many things seem to make you puke these days.

The new rainbow at pl. Wilsona will built within the roundabout and span 65 meters from North East to the South West, and reach a height of 65 meters at its peak (meaning perfect half circle). They already surveyed the location, and the foundations (which will be concrete, meaning permanent) are under design.

With a peak height of 65 meters, the new rainbow will be easily visible from ground level as far as pl. Inwalidów, ks. Popiełuszki, Metro Marymont and Centrum Olimpijskie, and it will be visible from rooftops as far as 2-3 kilometers away. Hurray Warsaw!!!

Anyone else heard the rumor that a rainbow (even bigger than the old one) will be erected in Pl. Wilsona? It is supposed to be huge, crossing over from one corner to the opposite corner, so it is basically right in front of you when you exit the metro station.

I hope they install rainbows on every intersection :) they brighten up the day.
