Life / Price of cigarettes in Poland? [192]

Typically 8PLN. They want to hike it up to 10PLN in the near future to bring it in line with European prices. The downside of harmonisation.

could be worse, the ausralian government is trying to raise the cost to $20 for a pack of 30. currently that pack would cost $11-14 depending what you buy and where you buy them.

Life / Poles are not racist [873]

Hi

Just stumbled across this web site by chance and I must say, I'm shocked to see all this hatred, bigotry and prejudice here. So this is the Poland of 2009? OMG!

TheOther

there are probably more non poles on this site than poles.

History / What do Poles think about Turks? [761]

no, it is not. I can tell what really happened if you are interested. But, the Europeans prefer to believe Armenians. Maybe because they are christains. It is useless to try to change the prejudices. We Turks know that Armenian genocit claims are a great lie.

why is the turkish opinion stronger than the armenian?

forcibly displacing and marching people across the desert without proper rations of food and water may not be genocide but it doesnt absolve the turkish government of guilt.

and funny that those who "reverted" to being muslim were allowed to stay.

educate yourself:

For example if you say a lie ''we killed millions of Armenians and Kurds'' like Orhan Pamuk, they will like you but it is a lie.

maybe not millions, but thousands....it is my understanding there was a lil ethnic cleansing of armenians, or are they just crying over spilt milk??

Language / Polish Swear Words [1242]

more polish is "hoĊ‚ota" (plural) - riff-raff, rabble and so on

how do you pronounce this?

my dad, when we were younger, used to drop a word pronounced as holeta (but similar to cholera). never told us what it meant.

Where are you based? Perhaps I could travel to your place?

i live in thornbury but only in a two room unit, so no real place to study.

i saw your other post about meeting poles in melbourne. there is a website: dziuplamelbourne.com/forum/YaBB.pl

there is a monthly dziupla each month, sometimes out in north melbourne.

and there is a polish festival in november at fed square.

there are also a few restaurants, but not many.

History / What do Poles think about Turks? [761]

Because Serbs killed lots of innocent Muslim Bosnians which will not be forgotten.

from my understanding the Serbs weren't the only ones on killing spree for the last 300-400 years...Croats, Serbs and Muslim Bosnians have all partaken.

Australia is not the country of original Greek food.

thanks for the history lesson...i know Australia is not the country of original Greek food but with the highest population of Greeks outside of Athens in Melbourne i would like to think they brought some traditional food.

what is the difference between a gyros, souvlaki and Greek kebab?

where do you live southern?

here in Australia Greek souvlaki's (gyros, kebab) as they are known are usually lamb or chicken. have not come across a pork souva.

the spit lamb is definitely better than the halal meat.

Greeks or Turks - which ones make the best kebabs?

i like the turkish bread but prefer the spit lamb, halaal meat is missing something.

Australia / HELP! Australian wanted to apply for Polish Passport via ancestory [51]

well, considering that the documentation is in polish and the application is in polish and my parents cant even complete i would have to pay a lawyer/interpreter to complete it.

i would assume the original poster would come across the same issues, and if his grandparents migrated after the war then there would be a lack of documentation as well.

Australia / HELP! Australian wanted to apply for Polish Passport via ancestory [51]

i assume you think the cost is outrageous?

i have no links whatsoever with this organisation, got one of their flyers at the polish festival in melbourne.

but my mate applied for citizenship and then a password by himself with the help of his dad who was a lawyer and had connections. after a year and half he still did not have anything back. he contact this polaron group and within 6 months he got his citizenship and password.
