History / Can anyone from Poland tell me about Auschwitz and The Ghetto? [623]

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polish-Ukrainian_War

Lviv, was in 1910 17% Ukrainian and around 60% Polish, and was considered one of Poland's cultural capitals.

Spot on here ...

In Lviv the Ukrainian residents enthusiastically supported the proclamation, the city's significant Jewish minority accepted or remained neutral towards the Ukrainian proclamation, while the Polish majority was shocked to find themselves in a proclaimed Ukrainian state.

You mean you knew that Poland had pre and post WWII concentration camps? Good to see that you are finally learning to accept what your country did (i.e. the good bits and the bad bits).

Tell me more about Post WWII camps and give me commanders names :) Tell me why they live in Israel and claim to be Israelis not Polish.

I don't suport conspirancy theories but it is fact that this people claim to be victimes of anti-semit plot. So if they existed (as you claim) tell me more.

Polish shortfall rekindles fears of gas crisis

ft.com/cms/s/0/474599ae-fbc8-11dd-bcad-000077b07658.html

Poland is still suffering shortfalls of gas nearly a month after Russia and Ukraine signed a pact to resolve a dispute that left tens of thousands of people across Europe without fuel.

Polish officials say that Russia has demanded a renegotiation of the 1993 treaty that governs gas shipments between the two countries in exchange for making up the shortfalls - a prospect that some fear could result in higher fees or other concessions. Gazprom, the Russian state gas company, was not available for comment.

so it is Russians who have broken long term contracts and blackmail Poland.

Experts need to check it. ... the smalest move can cause enormous problems. Both for natural enviroment and for Polish, Swedish, Norwegian ect. tourist industry. Human has killed so many spices on earth that we need to take special care about what we have.

I want my grandchildern to see all this animals and plants I can see these days. Experts need to check and one thing is sure we can't risk.

I have some vision of our state but I'm not a politician.

But you would like to be one ...

What a nonsense. :) It is absolutely possible to build it without causing any catastrophes. Of course this is good tactic to maybe even stop this project. However we are not politicians, so we should be more honest.

Even in German newspaper you can find such pictures.

I see that you are natural environment expert as well .... What is sure alternative rout is less dangerous from this point of view. What is more it is cheaper and doesn't cause so many political tensions.

I am not environment expert. That is why I am happy that Swedes decided to check more carefully possible threats for natural environment.

However we are not politicians, so we should be more honest.

To be honest you pretend to be politician I remember you proclaiming political program.

So, where is 24% of our contracted gas, Mr. Putin?

Exactly, Gazprom one week after the end of Ukrianian crisise has stoped sending gas for Poland. Poland paid for this gas.

According to the geological surveys and prognostics we have a 70 year long supply of gas

Polish situation isn't so good. Anny links ?

all you can do is just whining about bad Russia and bad Germany without any objectivity. You really should consider joining PiS.

Where is gas Poland has paid for. In few weeks Poland will be without gas (Poland still has something in magazines).

Then Poland will be accused for stealing it form pipelines.

Agreemant which caused that RusUkrEnergo is being out of businsess has been made between Gazprom and this company (RusUkrEnergo) ... which is owned in 50 % by Gazprom.

So in result of agreement between comany owned in 50% by Gazprom and Gazprom we don't have gas. They don't accuse Ukrianians for stealing gas... EU inspectors are in Ukraine. Russians don't send gas which we paid for.

Read something about problems Poland has before you take stance. :)

other countiries have gas transfered through Ukriane.

use your brain :) When our reserves will be finished ... Polands going to be accused for stealing gas (For which Poland paid for)

Don't you read newspapers ?

Russians claimed few months before that in case of problems with RosUkrEnergo ... there will be no problems to buy gas throught Belarus. Now All European countries have gas (transfered throught Ukraine and Bielarus) only Poland doesn't have 20% of ordered gas.

Russians claim that if we want gas throught Bielarus we must chanage long term contarcts to be better for Russians. Give them more power in Polish companies ect ...

Before you start debate you should read more about the case...

Gazprom does not respond to letters asking for PGNiG meeting as soon as possible on completion of the supply of gas. Currently, the East flows into Polish by 24 percent . less raw material. Agreement with the Swiss- Ukrainian- Russian company RosUkrEnergo was signed in November 2006 and is valid until the end of this year.

Last week's meeting of Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Vladimir Putin in Davos nothing has changed in Polish-Russian relations , at least when it comes to the supply of gas to our country. As learned "Rzeczpospolita ", PGNiG authorities still do not have any signal from Russia's Gazprom that his bosses are willing to talk about taking over the liabilities of its company - RosUkrEnergo . And this should be within a year to provide Poland approx. 2.5 billion cubic meters . gas through Ukraine . Since the beginning of the year it does not, although formally the gas conflict between Moscow and Kiev ended in mid-January .

According to "Rzeczpospolita " since then heads PGNiG sent several letters on the matter to the Vice-President Alexander Medvedev , who is responsible for Gazprom 's gas exports . The answer did not come. It seemed that a breakthrough could bring first meeting in Moscow intergovernmental team or the last conversation

RusUkrEnergo is controled by Gazprom ....

Poland is next on Russian list.

When Polish strategic reserves will be finished Poland is going to be accused of stealing gas ... for which Poland paid for :)

Russian resources are well documented and the cheapest on the market.

But they don't send us gas :) They don't use full capcity of Jamal gas pipe line like it was durring crisise on Ukraine. Now all european countries have gas but Russians don't want to send us gas Poland paid for. :)

Now they want some changes in contracts.

Maybe it is cheaper but nof for Poland so Poland is next counry to dominate ofter Ukriane.

Where is this 20% of ordered gas ?

Nord Stream is strange project.

First of all it is very dangerous for enviroment.

Secondly it is much more expenisve.

At the end it is political project. Russia wants to regian control over central and eastern european countries.

Poland has cut off gas by Russians ... last country in EU without supplies... after Ukrianian crisise.

All other countries have gas, Russians don't want to give Poland gas we have paid for.

I don't want to think what is going to happen after Nord stream being build.

It is february and we don't have gas ... we have paid for.

unian.net/eng/news/news-299044.html

Poland`s national gas monopoly said Wednesday it is still suffering significant shortages in gas deliveries coming through Ukraine, long after a deal between Moscow and Kiev ended a bitter pricing dispute that prompted a temporary halt to supplies, AP reported.

Polskie Gornictwo Naftowe i Gazownictwo (PGNiG) is receiving only 76 percent of its total contracted deliveries

can ya write it in english?

Ja naturlisch. You are very similar to Chamberlain.

Neville Chamberlain holding the paper containing the resolution to commit to peaceful methods signed by both Hitler and himself on his return from Munich. He is showing the Anglo-German Declaration to a crowd at Heston Aerodrome on 30 September 1938. He said:

"...the settlement of the Czechoslovakian problem, which has now been achieved is, in my view, only the prelude to a larger settlement in which all Europe may find peace. This morning I had another talk with the German Chancellor, Herr Hitler, and here is the paper which bears his name upon it as well as mine (waves paper to the crowd - receiving loud cheers and "Hear Hears"). Some of you, perhaps, have already heard what it contains but I would just like to read it to you ...".

Later that day he stood outside Number 10 Downing Street and again read from the document and concluded:

'"My good friends, for the second time in our history, a British Prime Minister has returned from Germany bringing peace with honour. I believe it is peace for our time."

Hitler:
I have issued the command--and I'll have anybody who utters but one word of criticism executed by firing squad--that our war aim does not consist in reaching certain lines, but in the physical destruction of the enemy. Accordingly, I have placed my death-head formation in readiness--for the present only in the East--with orders to send to death mercilessly and without compassion, men, women, and children of Polish derivation and language. Only thus shall we gain the living space that we need.

History / Yalta Conference and Poland [78]

I know one thing. This three guys on the picture made decisions.

As I know Sikorski "died" in july 1943.

Yalta was in 1945.

It was after :

The Tehran Conference (codenamed EUREKA) was the meeting of Joseph Stalin, Franklin D. Roosevelt and Winston Churchill between November 28 and December 1, 1943 in Tehran, Iran.

Stalin wished for an area in the Eastern part of Poland to be added to the USSR, and for the border to be lengthened elsewhere in the country. Roosevelt and Churchill agreed to this demand

Churchill and Roosevelt also gave Stalin free rein in his own country, and allowed the USSR to set up puppet communist governments in Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, the Baltic states, Romania, and other Eastern European countries what has become a reason of loss of freedom by these countries for next fifty years and genesis of Cold War.

Final decision.

stalin

Poland was the first item on the Soviet agenda; Stalin stated the Soviet case:

“ For the Russian people, the question of Poland is not only a question of honor but also a question of security. Throughout history, Poland has been the corridor through which the enemy has passed into Russia. Twice in the last thirty years our enemies, the Germans, have passed through this corridor. It is in Russia’s interest that Poland should be strong and powerful, in a position to shut the door of this corridor by her own force…It is necessary that Poland should be free, independent in power. Therefore, it is not only a question of honor but of life and death for the Soviet state. ”

What is more: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-tank_rifle,_model_35

Karabin przeciwpancerny wzór 35 (abbreviated "kb ppanc wz. 35"; "anti-tank rifle, model 35"), was a Polish 7.92 mm anti-tank rifle used by the Polish Army during the Polish Defensive War of 1939. It was also known by its code name, kb Urugwaj (kb Ur), or by the name of its designer, Józef Maroszek.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polish_mine_detector

The Mine detector (Polish) Mark I was a metal detector for landmines developed during World War II in the winter of 1941/1942 by Polish lieutenant Józef Kosacki.

" The Polish detector had two coils, one of which was connected to an oscillator which generated an oscillating current of an acoustic frequency. The other coil was connected to an amplifier and a telephone. When the coils came into proximity to a metallic object the balance between the coils was upset and the telephone reported a signal. The equipment weighed just under 30 pounds [14 kilograms] and could be operated by one man. The Polish detector saw service throughout the war and the Mark 4c version was still used by the British Army until 1995. "

History / Polish mathematicians who solved the Enigma machine [86]

After the Yalta there was effort on West to make Polish contribution in WWII smaller.

The facts are different:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bomba_(cryptography)

The bomba, or bomba kryptologiczna (Polish for "bomb" or "cryptologic bomb") was a special-purpose machine designed about October 1938 by Polish Cipher Bureau cryptologist Marian Rejewski to break German Enigma-machine ciphers.

Up to July 25, 1939, the Poles had been breaking Enigma messages for over six and a half years without telling their French and British allies.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyclometer

The cyclometer was a cryptologic device designed, "probably in 1934 or 1935," by Marian Rejewski of the Polish Cipher Bureau's German section (BS-4) to facilitate decryption of German Enigma ciphertext

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Card_catalog_(cryptology)

The card catalog, or "catalog of characteristics," in cryptography, was a system designed by Polish Cipher Bureau mathematician-cryptologist Marian Rejewski, and first completed about 1935 or 1936, to facilitate decrypting German Enigma ciphers

So it was before WWII.

Times has changed and there are results:

enigma from poland

Plaque at Bletchley Park, unveiled 2002. English side reads: "This plaque commemorates the work of Marian Rejewski, Jerzy Różycki and Henryk Zygalski, mathematicians of the Polish intelligence service, in first breaking the Enigma code

I knew the story, but didn't know about the monument in Poznań. I hope to see it next summer.

Picture made form different spots

Poznań

poznan enigma

:) Of course there is Różycki on this monument.

When we look on changes in history. British start to admit that Poles were first and it is only becuase of Polish help they were able to work on next enigma versions.

Without Polish mathematicians Aliess would have been beaten durring WWII.

Knoledge about most German plans or operations was very useful. In many battles allies were well prepared because of knowledge of German plans.

Sweden will not rush into approval of the construction of Nord Stream project

bnott.com/5572.html

"We understand the need for the project, but we can not go against our domestic laws," - Kalgren said at a meeting in Brussels.

Earlier, members of the Swedish Parliament and government officials have repeatedly spoken against the construction of the North-European gas pipeline, because it is, they say, could harm fisheries and environmental situation in the Baltic Sea. Particularly dangerous dumping of chemical weapons of Nazi Germany, which can meet Nord Stream gas pipeline under construction.
