Poland has not lacked racism (both against and by locals) over the years. Perhaps they should try a bit harder with their TV.


If you watched BBC World (I don't) you'd think the whole world was so-called Palestine and India. Cheap TV and lots of material, plus commentators with axes to gr8nd about those places.

Poland gets a bad enough press anyway where racism is concerned. If Konfa with its openly racist members become a coalition partner, they'll be yet more in the world's media, even considerably more.

It's better for TV stations to play things carefully rather than carelessly.

It was on very occasionally until it was very banned by general consent. Towards the end, only old people watched it, and they were trying it different ways including without blackface and sometimes with black dancers however it was still of poor taste and nobody misses it now. The dance routines were well done, however the time for stuff like that was long past. I used to see it sometimes as a kid and even then thought it was a bit iffy. Back in those days there weee still erotic dance routines on Top of the Pops and women with blue hair talking about pussy.


Just a shame segregation wasn't.

When there's such a shadow over the life experience of black people (and racist attacks here in PL sometimes), a bit of caution about how whites depict them is just common sense and decency.

I doubt we'll agree, and we do agree on that. Racism (whether with pointy white hats or unconscious bias) is a polarising issue unfortunately. Better to be safe than sorry.

Most places stopped doing stuff like that years ago. The publicity of course damages Poland's reputation and I suspect there are people in PL who would rather there was no publicity at all.

From the Krauts or Frogs probably, two countries who wish it had been a disaster and can't quite handle that it wasn't.

Women's rights in. the UK are as good as the best anywhere else in Europe, not just in terms of legislation but in terms of how seriously it is taken.

It's not.

There are oases of calm there if you know where to find them, however you never quite find peace.

I was there for a couple of weeks last month for work and found it very hard going. There again later this week for a couple of days and will be glad to get out.

It's still interesting however the good bits are outside Zone 1 now. I did hear quite a bit of Polish spoken though not in the centre. Most of the post=2004 migration are either in the provinces or are in London but can't afford to do much in Zone 1.
