Love / 17 year old English girl with a 25 year old Polish man? [9]

Poles can come on a little strong at first, both males and females:-) Don't be scared off though. Many compensate for poor English with extra testosterone.

Just stick to your guns and don't let 'em force ya into the sack until YOU feel in your gut/heart that it's time!

History / Whom do the people in Poland hate more: Germans or Russians? [871]

@Rich,
As I'm certain you're aware, Poland continues to demand the "return" of formerly "purloined Polish" territories, eventually taken over by the Germans during WWII and still squarely in German hands aka all of current/former "Eastern" Germany, long since under the Basic Law of (at that time) West Germany which guaranteed the return of formerly-Prussian land to the present FRG!

Koenigsberg fell to the Soviets, appropriately re-named "Kaliningrad" after the once famous Russian Communist agitator Mikhail Kalinin.
Whereas the Russians were once one of America's strongest allies in their common fight against the Nazis, this all changed drastically with the advent of the Cold War.

Should you need any convincing as to how the Russian threat went on to terrorize much of East Europe long after Germany ceased to be a menace to the West, just look at Budapest 1956, Prague 1968, and Crimea 2016.

Wake up and smell the coffee, dude:-)

History / Whom do the people in Poland hate more: Germans or Russians? [871]

If you've been reading the papers (and I don't just mean the Funny PapersLOL) over the past decade or so, then you wouldn't have posted the response you just did...unless of course you're pulling my leg, which is more than possible.

Life / Polish and Czechs [191]

That's your opinion. I've never been one to test the hotness of Polish as opposed to Czech faces, so I really can't say.

Come off it, dude, read the friggin' papers! Ever heard of Crimea or US election meddling, ad infinitum??! Putin's a menace, get real!!
Merkel's only a threat to AfD or PEGIDA followers, frustrated with globalism.

History / Whom do the people in Poland hate more: Germans or Russians? [871]

Whom do the Polish people hate "more", be it a toss up between the Germans or the Russians? Although not Polish, I'd have to say the Russians were more rapacious in terms of their desire to gobble up neighboring territory for the glory of "Greater Slavania", the Germans surely were far more deadly.

Both however were past practitioners of "divide and conquer", not to mention, quite good at it as well:-)
Appears Party Chief Putin's just following in their footsteps! Today, of course, it's Russia and not Germany, that remains the major European threat.

Genealogy / Typical Polish Eye Color [77]

"Earthy" eye color, Emilia? Not sure I can quite picture it from your description. "Muddy colored", perhaps? The last part I think I got.

Life / Americanization of Poland - good or bad? [49]

Poland's by far the least Americanized nation in Europe! Germany's far more like almost a mini-US, certainly in terms of how American English has infected their mother tongue. French additions were clearly a badge of pride; take from one's betters and imitate them. "Denglisch" or "Germlish" or whatever you wish to call it, is a sign of linguistic laziness, scarcely pride, and probably far more widespread in Germany than, say, "Poglish" is in Poland.

Life / Why Do You Love Poland? [907]

I'd go even one step further; Loving Poland means never having to say you're sorry. Compare with Germany: Loving Germany means ALWAYS having to say you're sorryLOL

Life / Do you think that Polish people are rude? [951]

We certainly are not!

What do you mean exactly? That it's a mental disorder to try to be exceptional??
I'd think that's simply part of being human, to strive to be better, no?

Work / Is it difficult to make a living playing Soccer (football) in Poland? [54]

Andrew, in Europe, I'd go with soccer myself, as American football probably isn't too popular on the continent at present. Only European country with which I'm familiar that's into American sports is Germany, which has several semi-pro baseball teams, I believe!

Life / Why Do You Love Poland? [907]

@Rich Mazur, gotta go along with ya there.

@Amen, Dirk! English is typically the most underestimatedly difficult language there is. Oh, it looks sooooo, so "easy", compared say (on the surface) with Polish, German, Icelandic or Navajo, but between the correlative spelling/pronunciation dynamic...HELP!!! By contrast, at least from a purely phonetic perspective, Polish is a piece of cake:-)

Life / Why Do You Love Poland? [907]

Rich, what you've just described might describe half-a-dozen such megalopoli anywhere in the world, much less Europe! Is that honestly a reason NOT to love Poland, for that matter, any country?

Although only briefly (a day or so at the outset) in a medium to large Polish city, I found most German cities I visited, as well as lived in for a while, considerably more "bad-tempered" than any experience I had in Szczecin. Grafitti?? Name us a metropolis anywhere today not infected by it!

How can a person not enjoy hearty, healthy Polish cuisine with farm-fresh ingredients? Sure beats American TV dinners any day of the month.

Think you're being meretricious here, to speak frankly.

Law / Car registration in Poland (bought a car from Holland on a temporary license) [25]

Alex,
As I'm fairly sure some people have already mentioned here, one can scarcely expect from random Polish concerns like those which you describe the commensurate English level which a foreigner could practically take for granted in the Netherlands from any company, great or small.

More to the matter at hand, I know I've brought this up numerous times also, but Poland retains strong traces of her black market past under Communism, therefore will differ markedly from either Holland or Belgium in this respect. My contacts in Amsterdam along with other cities, always comment on the straight forward manner of conducting business, usually in excellent English!
