News / Time to clean the swamp - dePiSification of Poland [324]

:):):) Relax, you are too emotional now. It is needless and unhealthy.

Polish are too emotional

Yes, it shows that you are Polish. :):):)

that way you can manipulate them easily.

Yes, watch out coz rightist propaganda apparently manipulates you. hahahaha

show me neutral media

In terms of Polish politics, it is Onet platform or Rzeczpospolita paper. They critisize all sides of the Polish political circus whenever necessary.

All the media in Poland

No, some are left, some are centre and a few are completely neutral. If they attack rightists and expose their dirty criminal acts, it is the fault of corrupt rightists, not the media. Simple.

Besides, there are rightist media too but they aren`t too popular due to gigantic amount of crazily lying propaganda they spread. Again, the fault of rightists.

most Silesians want?

They didn`t coz they hadn`t cared until Pres Duda vetoed the bill. Now most do. :):):)

Travel / Greatest Old Towns in Poland [74]

And some of us have lived in PL almost as long as most Poles.

And some of you have become a nasty mixture - neither British nor Polish. You can`t forget your British roots and never fully accepted Polish ways. It shows in your posts about Poland.

My knickers were stolen

Bs. You simply lost them coz you drank too much, like a typical British tourist on a weekend trip to Poland. hahahaha

How do you know?

That`s what I don`t like about that British poster. Whenever a native Pole or Poless disagrees with his inflated ego spreading false opinions on Poland, he responds with vulgarities. Zero dignity. If Cromwell had commanded such soldiers, he would have never become a dictator. hahahaha

twat. brothels

Hey, jon, check out what market square is.

twat

:):):) I need to ask you again to show the remnants of the famous British dignity which might have been left in you. Or there is none at all??? :):):)

It's a living language

Exactly, coz we are shaping it as we want. Ha!!!

Olkusz has a nicer one

Prove it! Ha!!!
Probably you meant the market square in Olsztyn, not Olkusz. They sound very similar to British ear.

Apartment blocks?

You don`t know what a tenement hall is?? Amasing. :):):)

Why build 'replicas'?

Because replicas of old style classic architecture from the past look more interesting than pseudo old modern monsters.
Check out these monstrosities which imitate the old style. Better than crude blocks but still don`t suit the place. Gdańsk again

Not in English

This is Poland discussed in the Polish forum, not England in the English forum. Get a grip. :):):) The English language is just a tool we exploit. As intelligent humans or apes, we shape our own tools at will according to our needs. Ha!!!

pedestrianise that town square and have some public art

Give them some time. Rome wasn`t built in a year or sth.

I believed the longest market square in Poland and Europe belongs to Pszczyna in Silesi

Here is the market square in Pszczyna: greenery and no cars

And it's modern architecture more than anything political

Modern but extremely boring leading to my depressive states whenever I see it. :):):)

the new housing has enough space

No, it didn`t have it - most flats built in communism were tragically small. Ones of the smallest in Europe. We are still haunted with this dubious heritage today.

no rats, damp or exploitative private 'landlords'.

Yes, but you can still avoid such problems when you build replicas of traditional tenement halls. You don`t need to build depressive socialists blocks of flats which all look the same.

Check Gdańsk - those replicas look a lot better than blocks. Recently they started adding architectonic ornaments on their facades which were skipped in communist times to economise on costs.

"town square" rather than market square")

Market square is better coz it reminds of the primary commercial function of the square. :):):)

It's a lovely town.

Hmm, I have doubts seeing those cars parked there. Spoils the view somehow.

meanwhile Tusk

We forgive you coz you can`t control yourself anymore when Mr Honourable Prime Holy Minister Donald Reverend Tusk is involved. :):):)

he swings

Not before major rightist criminals rot in prisons. :):):)

Genealogy / Polish looks? [1410]

A contrite civil servant who colluded with rightists in financial scams when they ruled has adopted such unusual looks while appearing before the parliamentary investigating commission.

Now a riddle - why has he chosen it??

Life / Polish sentimental ballads [38]

The other one was Jacek Zieliński, one of the originators and leaders of big beat Skaldowie (Bards) group who made headlines in late 1960s.

He sang this beautiful ballad with another known female singer, Łucja Prus.

In the yellow flames of leaves:

In the yellow flames of leaves, the birch is burning beautifully.
December is slipping away, January is knocking after January.
There is a great commotion among the birds, some are flying away, some are staying.
They are standing in the meadow as if on a stage, will they survive ? will they last out?

And I often said goodbye to someone and came back not the same.
Even though on my hand a stern silver wedding ring shone like a bird's.
And I often said goodbye to someone, behind a cloud, behind a mountain, behind a road.
And I often said goodbye to someone, and I often said goodbye to someone.

The geese have all been sentenced, they will not live to hear the Christmas carol.
The severed heads with a tear in their eye will wither like flowers that withered.
Today, the geese are still walking towards me in the last sleepy dance.
Like fat duchesses who proudly welcomed the coup when it became

And I often greeted someone, even though my temples were burning with shame.
And I entrusted to God what is still burning in my memory.
And I often greeted someone, behind a cloud, behind a mountain, behind a road.
And I often greeted someone and I greeted them more than once.

They make a fire in a clearing, and a caterpillar burns in it by mistake.
And together with the caterpillar, dear Lord, my poor, seriously ill heart.
But don't feel sorry for my heart, why do I need flowers and oranges?
I will get warmer in spring, I will get better in spring. I'll dance

History / The restoration of Polish cities from WW2 destruction [123]

I ran into this article titled What happened in the city of Piła? and was quite surprised coz they attached a photo of a beautiful old town to it. Later I realised it didn`t show Piła but Toruń!

Piła was a German city before WW2. Today it is in north-western Poland. During the war 80% of its area was razed to the ground but they rebuilt it with socialist architecture. Pity. Some quarters were never restored - check the last photo.

Two famous musicians have just died.

The other one was Jacek Zieliński, one of the originators and leaders of big beat Skaldowie (Bards) group who made headlines in late 1960s.

Born 1946, died of cancer.

Skaldowie with Jacek Z. sing their famous Sleighing Song.

For a long time I believed the longest market square in Poland and Europe belongs to Pszczyna in Silesia. Recently I found out it is in Pułtusk not far from Warsaw. 400 metres long.

Life / Polish songs with religious motifs [23]

they are common to all Christian denominations including RC.

Yes, of course.

This song which deals with the issue

Another version with remixed disco music. And the clip contains scenes of dancing clergy. I already said somewhere else that such dances came to conservative Poland in late 1980s after visits and performances of American believers in churches here.

USA, Canada / Why Americans don't allow men to be in briefs at the beach/swiming pools? [90]

but last year I wore loose schorts myself.

Wearing them doesn`t mean they are allowed. Similarly, on the road the speed limit is 50 but you notoriously exceed it. And? It is obvious you broke the law at the pool but were lucky coz they didn`t notice or care. Simple.

News / Polish Silesian Autonomy movement [67]

No wonder Pres Duda vetoed the Silesian dialect to become a minority language in Poland.

Quite amasing. A lot of Silesians voted for Pres Duda in 2020. Today he is repaying them by rejecting the bill which could give them the language rights they have never enjoyed in Poland.

To an untrained eye this probably looks like Masztalerska Street in Poznań (looking towards Wroniecka). However, it is actually Zaułek St. in Bydgoszcz

And this is Lublin with its City Gate where regular theatre performances take place.

Bombs or not, the tram services must run. Tram no. 3 taking the right turn from Królewska Street into Marszałkowska

Immediately, I got other flashbacks about trams in streets in old Poland. Used as barricades against the enemy.

Language / Should Polish bands and singers sing in Polish or English? [17]

they should sing in Polish unless they sing in English.

Why do you discriminate other languages??? They should sing in Czech!!!! At least it will be fun! Ha!!!

Check the Czech song about Blue Stick in Highlander arrangement:
