I did visit once but when I write that PiS = neo-PRL I'm saying what Polish people who lived in the PRL say...

It might be that you think you sound better in English because your standards are lower in English (that is a very frequent case) and that you sound better in Polish than you think but you have higher standards for how you think you should sound....

Who are these PO fans you're talking about:? A Duda victory would make it harder for PiS to blame Donald Tusk when the consequences of their economic fecklessness come home to roost this summer....

A Trzaskowski victory would hopefully put some limits on the damage that PiS can do through their economic mismanagement....

Years ago a blog by an English guy in Poland suggested that countries periodically switch systems... that Poland parliamentary elections should be run on a 'first past the post' system so that the deal making happens before rather than after the election. He also thought that the proportional system in Poland would improve British parliamentary elections.

I like the idea of 20 or 50 year periods of one system and then switching so that the flaws of one way of doing things don't get too institutionalized.

At this point there are no truly terrible options I think.

Either Trzaskowski wins and there is some kind of pushback against PiS's commie ways....

If Duda wins PiS has no excuse when the bad economic figures start pouring in and no one to blame (I suppose the most gullible PiS supporters will still find a way to blame Tusk but if Duda wins there will be a very big national hangover by the end of the summer.

I'm only worried about the PiS shame effect (as in EP elections were some percentage claimed to have voted for Konf but actually voted for PiS....)

For myself she's just kind of cheap and vulgar... which is fine for a popstar but gets tiresome very quickly.


When? I remember flying once from Budapest (which I love) to Warsaw a few years ago and Warsaw looked far better in terms of infrastructure (going from the airport to the train station.... and then the train station was back to not so great....).

Maybe things in videken (roughly "not Budapest") have gotten better? Or are you talking about NWest Hungary? It's a lot better off than the rest....

This is all very weird, who called her? Does your sis know who the confirmed case was?

I don't want to pry but I am curious and a tiny bit skeptical because phone shenanigans to keep people from voting having a long history in the US (usually targeted at minorities).

A friend had come into contact with the mother of a suspected case (who had returned to Poland from N Ireland and then got a fever and sore throat and who got tested) but when the negative result came a day or so later the mother contacted my friend...
