Genealogy / Polish and gypsy traditions [140]

So you need to know what group/caste you're dealing with

And that's something that Roma tend not to discuss much with outsiders.

There's a dividing line, linguistic and cultural running across Poland, the south and the north. There are fine very different traditions.

particular families specialize in violin

Have you heard much of King Vasyl's music? His family are superb performers.

stray cats

Everywhere likes those. I feed them; don't you?

You have staff?

Rather a lot even....

Now run along and read something online.

There's quite a nice kebab shop there.

And of course plenty of apples.

Work / Are Poles workaholics? [164]

One of the biggest problems I have with interns lately is them turning work in late

My staff (or some of them, anyway) are in late, out early and every little thing is a drama.

I'm giving them the hard word on Tuesday and looking forward to it.

A touristy city anyway, perhaps instructed by whoever worked the AI to contain specific elements.

The result would probably differ if it was asked to synthesise Wloclawek, Sieradz. Nowy Dwor and Grojec.

Nice picture though, although it looks more like a dove or than the atmosphere of a city in Poland.

Travel / Leaving baggage unattended in Chopin Airport [16]

In that case I suppose they would.

An evacuation is expensive. Missed slots on the runway, missed trading in the bars and shops etc, hence the high fine as a deterrent.

Evacuations are vanishingly rare. I fly quite a lot (sometimes 16 flights a month) and have never seen one anywhere outside a war zone (and the airport in question was being shelled with 32 dead)..

So, as I understand I am completely fine right now?

Absolutely fine.

Airport security staff do a difficult job and certainly don't have thr time or inclination to chase people who left a life of luggage briefly unattended and then continued with it on their journey.

Fines etc are only likely to happen in the vanishingly rare situation that there was an evacuation or detonation.

I doubt this has ever happened at Okęcie.

History / Polish inventors - what have they ever given to the world? [101]

There are many Polish scientists and engineers who've moved abroad and work as part of larger teams elsewhere.

Therefore any invention they work on is likely to be credited to wherever the team as a whole is based.

Did this also remove land ownership?

It certainly didn't abolish land ownership however the r*ssia-Poland war immediately preceded it and r*ssian troops caused a lot of damage to farms and larger houses east of Warsaw.

I didn't get any kind of that stuff so I am clear right?

Yea, that's right.

The airport in Warsaw is fairly chilled. If there was a problem they would have dealt with it all at the time.

Plus of course, as you say, they didn't take your details.

Is there any chance that I already get fined for it?

No. You don't need to worry.

The lady was just telling you to be careful.

If anyone was going to issue you with a fine, they would have done it at the time.

And in gołąbkach.

I'm not a fan of those however they work better with kasha.

soak it for about half an hour

That works well with brown rice too.

in 15 minutes

I tend to go for less is more. If it's not quite done you can zip it in the microwave for a minute.

that is what I said. SEE

Boring.

You are talking Oryza longistarminata

I'm talking the stuff in sub Saharan Africa that people use if they can't afford white rice. No googling, however the corner shop here may have some on the bottom shelf.

I've seen it in Poland however it's sold for novelty value. I don't personally recommend it except to add a bit of colour if you want a rice dish to look fancy.

However, loose long-grain rice can only be achieved

Do it the Delia Smith way. Put the kettle on, put some oil in a pan, heat it and add the rice (don't wash it first). Stir and make sure the rice is coated in hot oil. Add some boiling water so it really sizzles and bubbles, add salt, stir once and once only. Turn the pan down to the lowest heat and put the lid on. Should be ready in about 10 mins or so.

Works every time.

Himalayan red rice and and Tha

Feel free to Google stuff.

Most red rice is grown in parts of Africa where it is seen as a second class product; white rice is preferred for flavour and quality.

In Poland, white rice is always preferred too.

Indeed I won't tell that. Moscow could be good for a holiday but that won't happen. It's dangerous for westerners now and in any case, hopefully it'll be under a metre of radioactive glass soon with rampaging zombies.

For the next trip, nothing booked but have an idea to go to a particular country that Crow probably wouldn't visit...

for short aka guided day trips

For a weekend away you don't need it, especially in a capital. It's nice to be able to say please and thank you in any language or to be able to order a beer or a coffee though.

I'm going soon for a long weekend in a country whose language isn't a commonly known one and where there's not much infrastructure. So I'll at least figure out how to buy a beer.

What I don't like about rice in Poland is that now most people buy pre-portioned plastic bags

I find those to be nasty. If I've got any, I always open the bags and do it the normal way.

red rice

Lower protein content, fewer vitamins and in the countries that produce it, it's less favoured than white rice.

I've noticed that red rice has started to become fashionable in PL.

It's not actually very good however it's a novelty and looks different.

you are on a different evolutionary path than Europe.

You've not been to Europe whether Poland, Spain, Germany, Britain or France. it would surprise you.

And all have plenty of rice; Poland has lots.

tanks to practice with. Can one really say the same about the British army

Yes, some very nice ones and nukes too.

The best they could do is field a small expeditionary force

One of your countrymen, Wilhelm Hohenzollern, said almost exactly the same in 1914. He lived to regret his words. There were similar foolish underestimations from
your government in the late 30s too, and of course the Argies made the same mistake later.

Never try to analyse why Britain can or will do; nobody has yet made any sort of negative analysis or prediction that has ever been remotely accurate.

the French army

At least their tanks have a reverse gear; they always need one.

Worth remembering that their only naval victory in history was the sinking of an unarmed Greenpeace ship n harbour in New Zealand.

we still spend more than our "European Partners" on defence

Far more, and we also allow things like retired staff encouraging extra funding or teething troubles with new shops to reach the media; something which other European countries (and the Americans) don't.

Meanwhile the German army use broom handles on exercises due to lack of guns,

It is though, and distinct too.

Not that this has anything to do with the popularity of rice in Poland.
