The US does not need NATO. In fact, NATO can be deadly to the US.
If China and Russia conspired to hurt the US, Russia could start some shlt with the Baltics and Poland. Then the US would have to rush to save their asses and have a war with Russia.
With that going on, China can start its part - whatever it is - including a direct attack on Hawaii and Taiwan.
Bottom line: NATO makes the US weaker because Europe is a bunch of parasites that would never send their armies to defend the US in the US.
