American citizenship and then went to the South Pole

He should book a trip on the international space station. A cabin with an outside balcony.

still be active on PF. If only there were no cosmic radiation.

Or live stream the vacuum of space sucking his entire insides out of his nostrils.

News / How will Poland be affected by WW3 which has now started [559]

He was never convicted for any crime

It was proven in a civil suit. Remind us how many million he has to pay out?

where Boris Johnsons attitude to sexual assault

His undoing was holding parties during lockdown. Perhaps you'd forgotten.

Kyrgyzstan is 93% mountainous

I'll take sun-kissed beaches, centuries of art and high culture plus a decent civil society instead.

And decent red (or white or pink) wine rather than something made in a tent out of cats' milk or whatever it is they use.

And not a place sandwiched between pariah states.

in the number of "Maidans" they staged against their governments.

So unstable.

classic highlanders

Not a plus.

Interesting for a holiday though too close to r*SSia to live and poor infrastructure and human rights.

Kyrgyzstan or Montenegro.

Neither of which have people wanting to live there, much infrastructure or particularly good human rights records.

Jersey is a nicer place, as is the western coast of Italy and some parts of Spain.

Some of the GdaƄsk suburbs are pleasant; perhaps the nicest place in Poland. If you don't mind cooker weather Northumberland is good too.

have a quality of life in Poland?

A really nice quake of life even. Compared with London where prices are crazy and there are too many people, Warsaw is a dream.

Poland can have its challenges, however on the whole it's an easy place to live.

In another thread yesterday, I wrote a barbed reply to Mopey Rich but you posted just before me and it looked like I was being snarky with you. I wasn't, and hope you weren't too offended.

a gypsy wedding

For Roma and Travellers, weddings and funerals are the big community focus. A lot is spent on wedding dresses and the reception.

camp-follower theory

That may be so.

There's more than you'd think in Syria and Egypt. Even there they've kept their traditions.

If a community isn't even trying to educate itself

The Angloromanis are certainly having a go. It's taken years of careful help though and there's still a way to go.

I'd say it's more the values they brought from India

They're all (including g the Middle Eastern ones) descended from a group of 800 musicians.

The clannishness is certainly reinforced by being outsiders.

poor Gypsies than prosperous Gadje....

I like prosperous gypsies. Given how badly they've been treated it's not too much to ask of society that we slowly and carefully help them be the best they want to be and can be.

Btw, my Barb in the other thread was aimed at an old codger rather than yourself if you've not yet seen the edit

Who is "we"?

Us.

Edit: your post appeared after Novichok's who I was of course addressing. Your posts are neither boring nor drivel.

Why shouldn't citizens of a country have a say in who is let in?

Indeed, however the fact that people are complaining about it suggests that society is not addressing the issue.

want a lift

I suspect that in the case of Roma it's a combination of having to survive in the face of hostility for centuries as well as being pushed to the bottom of society.

In the U.K. we've got a way to go as well, however spending time and effort on traveller education and resources seems to be slowly paying off; there are more and more doing well in life.

There are also Angloromanichal and people with some of that heritage in Warsaw, with good jobs and good lives.

people or individuals?

Sections of society.

hinting on minorities and special treatment ergo privileges

Not 'hinting'. Vulnerable groups need a lift or all the problems that the small-minded moan about will remain or increase.

pander

No 'pandering' though.

If you don't treat people equally, you can't whinge when they hurt you back.

In my opinion, it doesn't matter who was first where

Good. So at least you admit that minorities and in fact any citizens have the same claim on Poland as your own group do.

black persuasion

An odd phrase.

that will create problems and issues in the future.

Or perhaps it won't.

to some exected learn the language

Everybody should do that.

People who've come to Poland and spent much or most of their lives there get p1ssed off by twattocks who ask questions like "are you trying to learn a little Polish" (when you speak nothing else at home, write academic papers and give lectures in Polish and have translated best selling novels for a living) or especially the fvcking stupid question "have you 'tried' Polish food?" (hen you've lived in PL longer than they've been alive and can cook it as well as anyone in their family.)

Thinking about this one and being aware of certain factors best not discussed here, I'd say his job had a pretty big effect.

You don't say much about the Polish person however if they were a tourist, they're fair game for kidnappers in the Sahel and should probably have chosen Benidorm, Marrakech or Hurghada instead.

pandering

Or respecting a vulnerable group of people.

There have been Roma in Poland since before the ancestors of many who consider themselves Polish.

abandoned the Mexican and detained the white woman

Are Mexicans not white?

Was his job as a doctor part of it?

Why the hell would someone go wandering around Chad without kidnap insurance. There are European hostages there now. I'm close to there now and wouldn't go anywhere except the the capital or the river ports in the south without protection.

the rest of Gypsie

They're a large and diverse group.

Really they deserve representation as a national minority.
