At least where I am in Western Poland (never the PiS heartland) I have the idea that people now simply regard the national government as irrelevant. There's a lot of lightning symbols in windows some graffiti (political graffiti has never been the norm here) and the like and definitely more people are not bothering with masks outside... if PiS says something that automatically makes people think it's not necessarily true...

If there's not a turnaround they might have trouble holding out until 2023....

Mexico is very varied in terms of geography, climate and temperature (a lot of it is mountains which are cooler) The coldest I've ever subjectively felt was in southern Mexico (San Cristobal de las Casas).

I don't know if I'd call it a 'comedy'.... it's pretty somber in places (very good though).

One of the best films on what happened in former communist countries after 1989 is the Romanian movie 'Fost sau n-a-fost' (was it or wasn't it?) confusingly called '12:08 na wschód od Bukaresztu' in Polish.

The first half is a tv producer in a small dreary town trying to set up a live call in show on the anniversary of the Romanian revolution of 1989 and most of the second half shows the broadcast in real time... devastating tragic and funny at the same time.

Surely it was the advanced western countries that were on the road to communism by the 1970s or so (welfare states as in Scandinavia) and not a feudal monstrosity like Russia... which simply replaced the Tsar with the Party Leader (and now Putin).

The advent of neoliberalism put a stop to that (for good or ill). But neoliberalism has now long outlived any usefulness it might have once had...

I dunno... how many cases have been traced to open air gatherings?

It's overwhelmingly passed indoors in situations with poor ventilation. Cases started going up when people stayed home more (another reason that lockdowns are such a stupid idea).

The protestors tend toward the more... educated, so less likely to be living in close quarters with grandparents and more likely to be able to isolate from them.

It's obvious that JK doesn't have the slightest connection with the priorities of voters under 50 or so.... I always say that ruling parties should be changed regularly (and heads of states should be changed every 10 years at most on average) for just that reason...

So many problems are caused by fossiled and alienated leaders from Putin to Xi to Erdogan to Merkel throw them out and bring in new people.

I'm not sure about the residency question, but....how much time have you spent in Poland before? How well do either of you speak Polish. It can be a great place to live, but it's not a user-friendly country for newcomers... and if you have family somewhere.... that doesn't necessarily make it easier (just means different kinds of problems).

I dont' think Poland has much/any interest in making things difficult for British citizens so I'm not sure how necessary moving is (unless you're looking for a permanent residence card to make it easier to move around the EU).

That's not what this is about primarily, it's the new legal requirement for women to carry fetuses to term that have no chance of surviving so that they can live a few minutes or hours in pain
