It's called reversion to the mean... extraordinary people tend to have... ordinary children (and having every advantage handed to you from a young age tends to not hone a person's ambition, if anything it's a burden and a pernicious barrier to success)
In terms of general inheritance people get hung up on the outliers and neglect the fact that the great majority of human beings inherit most of their physical and intellectual potential (or lack thereof) directly from their parents.
at. 'Greatness' certainly doesn't seem to be inherited.
