News / Mieszkania Plus programme - PiS fulfills yet another campaign promise [50]

But Smurf it is not a good thing. Remove any requirement for a family and 2 kids under 21 to pay any tax under a sensible threshold, say 25,000 zl a year, as Blair did (with adjustment for different GDP) - and there you have it.

Instead, you can earn peanuts here and still pay taxes, as Adrian, if he were still here, would gleefully remind me. And with this 500 + you still have the inequality, and the percentage who are drunks, who will steal from their children. Just terrible.

News / Mieszkania Plus programme - PiS fulfills yet another campaign promise [50]

I lived in a Katowice version of Dougpol Towers when I first came here. A few years ago, when it was worth 250 thousand zl, the old PIS mob had a similar scheme.

My physiotherapist wasn't very well paid, poor chap, and had 2 young daughters. His wife also was a physio.

The government awarded them a flat - identical in every shape and form, and of course size, to mine.

The price? 7,500 zl.

So don't achieve too much and PIS might just reward you.
It's called socialism folks - and although Blair 1997 was a Godsend to the UK, Poland can't afford handouts. Study, get qualified, and there will be plenty for everyone in the future market economy of Poland - but not with populist hand-out schemes, that are not properly budgeted, ruling the roost.

If the government really want to act to solve the housing situation, the first thing to do would be to dismantle the old Housing Committees, the spoldzielnie, but they will never do that because they are jobs for the boys, for life:(

I don't like the idea of giving all MPs a 2000 rise

A 2000 zl rise? Derisory. They should get more than that - IF they are performing, but some seem hell bent on self-promotion

Travel / Best place to exchange money in Poland? [98]

In kantor's exchange rate is much lower in compare to banks

I don't understand that opinion. Kantors generally give better rates for the non business user - otherwise why would they exist? I think it works out at a saving of 1.5%?

what would you recommend ?

Depends on the amount. Nothing beats internet rates. Otherwise every town has its "kantor-zone" where you caan negotiate to a minimal degree.

Travel / Hiking around Zakopane/ Tatra mountains [33]

Merged: The long proposed tunnel through the Tatra from Zakopane to Poprad

Will some of us live to see this? The Slowaks, who have tunnels everywhere (poor in GDP as they were in the past) OK'd this a while back, but the Poles couldn't or wouldn't fund it.

I would have thought it is a must for the development of the region, and the environment in my old favourite climbing ground of Zdiar and the Eastern Tatra is being damaged by heavy goods traffic.

If those Swiss can build this epic, surely a joint venture can pull off the short tunneling required between these two towns?

You misspelt the voviodship,

Wulkan will be along presently with his usual pedantry - but the spelling, as you of course realise, is "voivodeship"

Parasites like those who write the above

This parasite has just finished an (unusual)18 hour day but plenty of it is taxable, so I am contributing more than you are son - so I kindly suggest you go and do one.

Only another three years and Poland can start growing again and get its pride back.

All of my points were axiomatic, and you don't even live in Poland do you, or are registered here, so what does it have to do with you?

we do behave decently.

Attempted coup of the highest law in the land
Disgraceful refusal to contribute to the refugee crisis in ANY tangible way - drawing world-wide condemnation.
PIS politicians talking about refugees as if they were dogs while conveniently forgetting that Poles were once those "dogs" themselves
Sacking directors who can do the job and replacing them with horse killers
Threatening people with arrest
Badmouthing US presidents who saved the Balkans from wider genocide
Bank taxes taking money from the customer - when in reality the customer is king
Manipulating the media
Xenophobic rhetoric
Ridiculous audit claims as to financial "mismanagement"
Handing money out aka 500 zl without due diligence, and nothing for single mothers
Banging on about the sovereign importance of a medieval religion
Homophobia
Nationalists on our streets (2 blackshirts offered violence to me a week ago and kicked my dog). One of them got thrown against a wall and they were faced off.

Damaging the economy every DAY this band of nationalist clowns carry on.....

The list goes on and on and on and on.......

You have NO respect in Western Europe and they are laughing at you and your sort. And no, you do not behave decently in any meaning of the word

Now even they have thrown in with PiS.

Pomorskie is solidly anti-PIS Polonius. I live here and I can tell you that anybody over the age of 35 hates them with a passion.

Over and out!

the people

Well, thank God we are somewhat isolated from the madness here in Tri-City. That's the illusion I have anyway and long may it continue.

Duda would not be welcome here.

leftist extremist

Don't be stupid Polonius any more than you have to be. I suggest that you look up the word "extremist" n the dictionary. We all know that Austria would have faced sanctions if that fascist had won, and carried out his racist threats.

Maybe you should relocate to Hungary and cuddle up to your racist buddy-boy Urban? In the meantime normal service is resumed, and soon will be in Poland as well.

To unsuspected reader, I'm not saying all that because I'm somehow connected to PiS and/or Kaczynski but because being that 'nationalistic' label is being repeated by the press, clowns in EC and former president of the USA do not reflect reality in the sightless.

Don't you think you're being a bit sensitive? You are well old enough to remember the mess that the twins made of Poland the least time - and that's not clownish policies I would like to know what is:)

Oh , but wait - you don't live here and don't have to suffer PIS policies do you?

I could tell you of their latest stupid local policies in Tri-City, but I must walk the dog.

Do keep up Wulkan.

The title of clown has already been assigned.

To Kaczynski - that "Nationalist clown"

News / New European Council's report: "Poland oasis of racism, xenophobia and homophobia" ... [343]

if that fits the description of a normal moral person with integrity.

I choked on my croissant I was laughing so hard (or snorting with derision - it's all the same)

The 40 percent normal Poles will be Poland's future as a Western European allied modern state, and you have it the wrong way round as always Johnny:)

I see plenty of indigenous low achieving UK citizens moving to Poland for a more affordable lifestyle fueled and paid for by the poles hunger to learn English

I think you will find that the only TEFL and institutional posts teaching English are for qualified graduates, and very well experienced ones at that. If your ability to analyse and explain succinctly is lacking, and you are not creative at moving the learner from controlled to free practice , then you are going to have problems paying the rent.

If you are stating that TEFL teachers are not high earners or even "middle-class", you generally would be right:) Of course some are published, or branch off, as I have, into ESP. But there are compensations Dolno. I choose who to work with, not the other way round:)

70% of Poles do not want non-whites living in their country.

The UK didn't "want" a million Poles living in theirs'. What a country wants and what it gets in a global village are two different things. If a million British people of Caribbean origin decided to up sticks and move to Warsaw tomorrow what would you propose should be done to stop them doing so?

you, Biedroń, Grodzka and a handful of other weirdos wish that weren't the case.

Still - categorisation. And this thread is about religion. Me mam was a catholic.
Her mantra was "Live and let live," and damn right she was too.

Off-Topic / Eurovision - Today I will be ashamed to be Polish [580]

it's still funny

What is funny is that some people would go to all that trouble and expense to push a song that is crap, just to "promote" their country. There are other, more productive, ways of doing that.

Do you have some evidence to back up that theory of yours?

The Polish song got 3 votes from the juries of 36 countries.
Maybe because it was crap? And then came third in the tele vote. So you are telling me that the Germans voted for it in their thousands? Or the Spanish? You obviously believe that the world is 6,000 years old in that case:)

Poland got 150 odd votes from televotes. All of them from Poles ringing repeatedly obviously. Meanwhile Putin threatens action:))

A very good point - they don't give a flying copulation about that diversion that our 'funny friends' on PF find so amusing.

You didn't watch. Somebody tele voted for the Polish entry in huge, huge numbers.

It must have been the Serbians (according to "the Crow Theory of Fraternal Brotherhood"). My mother tried to teach me not to use sarcasm, as it is the lowest form of wit, but Poland today encourages it.

Sure I don't get it

It is a joke night and an excuse for a party Ironside. Delph and smurf have spelt it out for you, so you don't need to take my word for it. The Swedes get the joke. If Scandinavians (who generally have little humour as we know it) get it, it's frankly amazing that Poles don't.

But you had that laughable Sopot festival for years, so you actually enjoy, and analyse, the worst of pop music:)))

Anyone that doesn't see it for what it is - a perfect excuse to spend an evening laughing at the worst of what Europe has to offer really needs a sense of humour transplant.

Like the nationalist Poles who repeatedly rung in to vote for Poland? because nobody else would have:)))))))

I liked the Latvian song but the voters made sure it was political as always :)

In retrospect, a lot of gamblers must have won big on this result.

That Eurovision BS is just a big fat trick played on people

Ironside - you Poles don't get it. It is kitsch party fun vs political shenanighans. Superb fun all round. Terrible music, terrible production.
So, paradoxically brilliant!

Young British voters keep choosing some total gash so I predict null point for us - what about ze Poles?
Dog is being sent to bed early and it's party night at Dougpol Towers.

Oh, and RIP Sir Terry Wogan. I have the Ballantines at the ready in his honour. I suppose it should be the Irish really......

I believe forcing pupils specialising in the humanities to study maths and science is a demotivating waste of time.

Yes - that too :). Let them specialise - and in Britain students can - unless Delph knows something I don't.
