A socio-economic model dominated by status striving (US, UK, more and more Poland) then all human relationships are poisoned (though some find ways to mitigate the worst effects).... average men feel the first hit and women only feel the brunt of it later, sometime into their 30s....

It's a losers game and both men and women should say no to it and find something better.

Why would I expect that? I'm not insane.

The problem isn't that some random group of men decided one day they hated women but that social forces much larger than any individuals have created a situation where many men who would have done fine in life 50 or 40 or 30 years ago as reasonably happily married and employed men (the backbone of any economy) are now being forced out of the labor market and find themselves with no real prospects of ever forming a family.... that should be heartbreaking because a lot of the women they would have married also face a pretty bleak future..... spinsterhood or single motherhood are poor substitutes for most women who want to have families.

There have always been random misogynists and/or misfits around, they're irrelevant to this discussion of large numbers of young men who, through no fault of their own, find themselves without any kind of emotionally fulfilling future (and a lot of women who'll be in that same place 15 to 20 years later).

Women are pickier than men.... almost any woman who abides by basic hygiene and can speak in a normal tone of voice can find a reasonably okay guy.

Isn't it more an unintended consequence of second wave feminism* and increased stratification?

The most... functional model of society is one in which a large majority of people end up in long term monogamous relationships and one in which people don't spend too much time engaged in status striving....

Neither one of those is the norm in the US or the UK (and it's slipping in Poland at an alarming rate).

Most women in most western countries most of the time prefer to marry men who have higher social status than they do which used to be easier... more equality between the sexes mean that more and more women and men get squeezed out of the marriage and family market....

Similarly, more stratification (probably greater now than at any time in history in the US) means fewer winners and lots more losers....

I think a lot of that is down to the PRL.... ingredients were not always easily available and stoves were not... reliable and so people mostly stuck with well-known dishes and mostly on top of the stove...

Also I wonder if savory pastry is a thing among Poland's neighbors.... Eastern (not East) Germany... Czech-Slovakia.... Lithuania...

For me, I can take pastry or leave it alone... it really depends on what's in it (and ratio of edible parts vs flaky gets all over everything and the cat....).

The authors of this article have analyzed the debt of local government units in Poland. This is a dynamic phenomenon, affecting a large majority of municipalities and districts in the country.

I'd play around but the two phenomena and vast without an article are issues... (along with some other stuff)

you want some samples of what you can do that a prospective customer can look at and see, rather than force prospective clients to dig around in a blog put them together (orignals and your translations) in a nice looking format and send it with a cover letter to translation bureaus, as many as you can with or without some editing samples (make it clear you're not British and wouldn't be competent in translations meant for a British audience - making it as a translator is about knowing your limitations and sticking to them).

Also, own up to mistakes - all translators make mistakes (it's just that kind of undertaking - perfection does not occur). Own up to them and learn from them so you don't make the same mistakes again and again.... experienced translators even make up funny stories about weird mistakes they've made...

I wouldn't think Polish as a first guess if asked, but if I were told you were Polish I would believe it... that is, you don't look stereotypically Polish but lots of Polish people don't look stereotypically Polish either....)

The problem for Polish-to-English translation is that there just aren't enough native English speakers with the requisite knowledge of Polish and the particular skills needed for translation.

We exist, but there's not many of us and there's no way we could keep up with demand.

Also....proof/native/editing. A lot of Poles try to write in English which can be grammatically.... okay.... but stylistically hit and miss. . There is definitely a market for native English speakers who are fluent in Polish....

What about nutritional supplements? IIRC early Jain immigrants to the UK had nutritional problems (where they had done fine in India on the 'same' diet). Their diet is so off-the-charts restrictive probably as a way of maintaining their extreme clannishness. They effectively can't really socialize with people except entirely on their own terms... this does have benefits - it doubtless helped them displace the Orthodox Jews from the diamond business in Antwerp...
