Work / Black English Teacher going to Wroclaw [247]

He should be able to walk the streets whenever he feels like it, without being harrassed because his skin-colour is different.

Should be able to, in practice, that's not the case.

Work / Black English Teacher going to Wroclaw [247]

I am hoping you all could give me a general view of how people would feel about a black english teacher in Wroclaw? Will my race be an issue in day to day living?

Expect to be stared at, have slurs mumbled as well as directly yelled at you, and plan on defending yourself if you decide to go out with a white woman. Avoid groups, they won't say a word to you unless they out number you.

The interesting thing is, when most find out that you're American, it becomes cool again. I think it's half racism, half punk b*tch short man complex that a lot of Poles suffer from.

Happy birthday, and don't take sh*t from anyone here.

History / Let's talk about the POLISH ARMY [79]

before WWII actually started they were the first country to refuse hitlers territory demands. after he had already taken two countries.

Well, him and the Hungarians and the Poles...lets not forget that.

Switzerland maintained its sovereignty

For a while. You have to also think about the fact that Switzerland is a naturally defendable country, Poland isn't.

Nuclear warheads are the cheapest guarantor of national sovereignty in existence.

Genealogy / Polish looks? [1410]

I just accept this kind of lifestyle as nothing wrong.

Because there is nothing wrong with it. Some people have a need to feel "special". Enjoy the fun things in life while you're still alive, I mean why not? What does denying that bring you?

Do the guys that need to feel special, what's the difference between 5 and 50? How about if your special lady friend only slept with 5 people, but 4 of those were one night stands? What's your sorting criteria here?

Ania Przybyłska

Magda Różdżka

I would do unspeakable things to both of them.

Life / Internet access and cost in Krakow! Please help. [20]

Did you read anything posted in this thread?

UPC polska: 60PLN/month, 10Mb/s, no limit. Dirt cheap IMO. Fast too.

3G internet has a limit here in the U.S. (and anywhere for that matter).

There are unlimited 3G plans in most of Europe now. UMTS and HSDPA is all over the place in Poland.

Life / Cannabis / Weed in Poland... How much does marijuana cost per gram and how easy is to get it? [355]

Give me a break....

My brother doesn't do stimulants of any kind. He doesn't like the effect or the comedown.

if a person needs help to get off drugs then the state has a moral obligation to help them get rid of the god-awful crux afflicting them.

And where does the state stop with that? Does the state have a moral obligation to provide counseling after ending a relationship? How about advice on buying a home?

Let adults make their own decisions.

NO, I don't drink or smoke or do any other drug.

No coffee, tea, chocolate?

People on drugs, alcoholics, smokers etc etc get no sympathy as far as i'm concerned and neither should they get treatment if they hit problems, leave them to die in their own stupid world :)

Yes, yes, exactly! Leave them alone unless they harm others, in which case punish them for what they did wrong.

Travel / Traffic roundabouts not common in Poland? [13]

You gotta be a yank!!! Here we go again, talking in superlatives about Poland. Tell us where this biggest roundabout in Europe is.

You gotta be a Brit!!! Hey, aren't you from that part of Britain where people like to pretend that they aren't the backwoods of the island?

Life / What's the story with Nergal? (Singer from Behemoth) [40]

name a religion which is not agressive. I know only one - hinduism (remember that buddism is not religion so it doesnt count).

The religions themselves aren't aggressive, their followers are. Catholics, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists...

Anyway, all true Christians would pray first and foremost that Adam makes a speedy recovery.

Language / Do Poles prefer US American or UK English language? [147]

Quite a few of them can't speak hochdeutsch. Schwizerditsch has also infected their schools.

and i could take you into the deep south in the USA and you wouldn't understand anything either. who cares.

Alcohol does a great job bringing the southern drawl out, but it's just an accent, albeit a heavy one. Gullah on the other hand is a crazy dialect that 99% of English speakers can't begin to follow. My grandfather spoke it to us.

Life / What's the story with Nergal? (Singer from Behemoth) [40]

One or two of his tracks are ok. It's just not my style. I can listen to guitar licks in symphonic black metal but not growling. I know them through my wife, she's into BM.

their drummer is one of the best in the business

I'm sure he was popular when he ripped up a bible, I certainly don't have a high estimation

maybe he just didn't like the part about stoning your children.

a history of the very glorious nation

If you're going to revel in historic glory, you need accept historic wrongs. I don't owe you a thing, and you've never done anything for me. See, we're even.

Life / What's the story with Nergal? (Singer from Behemoth) [40]

From their site:

The following excerpt is a statement from BEHEMOTH's frontman and guitarist Nergal regarding his health and the canceling of upcoming tour dates.

"Dear All, I'd like to announce that Behemoth won't be able to tour for the foreseeable future. I don't wanna bore you with details here, but I'm sick and am receiving some serious medical treatment. It's gonna take another few weeks or more for full recovery, and so we have been forced to cancel all the Behemoth shows in August, planned dates in Russia and Baltic States for September and October, and our American tour in November.

Life / Why Do You Love Poland? [907]

Why not, Zeti? Poland, to its credit, is a highly civilised country when it comes to human rights. The likes of America, through the CIA, was able to corrupt a Polish agent and that's sad. However, Poles are principled on quite a few matters :)

Especially when it comes to throwing bottles at czarnuchs. And of course joining wars that they have absolutely nothing to do with. A football association that is about as corrupt as you can get, failing schools, dismal public health system... rock on.

Fairly principled.

That said, I kind of like the environment that some of those negative aspects create. That, and the positive ones of course.

History / Polish history is 100% glorious [297]

(or rather preference of being a protectorate of the nazi regime than wanting to stood up and fight when they could, no matter if with allies or without them).

I guess being attacked by Germany, Hungary, and Poland, you don't really have much of a choice. They also had a tiny army compared to that of Poland. It also didn't help that about a third of the population were German...

Oh I do...Germany is working hard to make and keep Poland prosperous and stable.
All are profiting from that. It would be nice of you to recognice this now and then too...instead of always harking back to "the war" and enjoying germanophobe barbs.

Germans buy more and more Polish products as we buy more and more european products.

Most definitely, that was the entire idea behind the EU. Polish capital is growing, and investments are being made all over the place, not just at home. Nice to watch.

Precisely, just an obligation which dose not mean a damn, when **** hits the fan you’ll run for the hills as usual. I do not put to much faith in that. Lesson learned.

Depends on the circumstances. I don't recall much running for the hills as of late.

Same should be applied to Americans but sadly the p**** in charge are just that. Tit forTat if you ask me.

That wouldn't be a problem, seems only fair. I mean, Poland obviously appreciates dollars more than the US appreciates Poles that come over and don't return... It's nice seeing all those US and German flags flying over the factories. You don't see much of that in the US.

Tito another Hero of mine,:) he did not give a **** about Americans and Russians alike, good for him.

Everyone for that matter. Tito was a bad ass, good leader, and his partisans fought smarter, not harder. The Yugoslavians didn't roll over after the war.

The nationalism here leaves a bad taste. A lot like the US in that regards. Glorifying success without looking at the failures...there's a word for that I think.

Like I said but-out. No thanks to you.

Yea, thanks to them not knowing how to run an economy. Hooray for bad management.

It still does not interest you, yet you still play the same game.

Obviously it does. Enough to actually sign up to a mutual defense pact. Now there is an obligation.

I don't usually hear Yugoslavians whining about being sold out at Yalta...In fact, the only country that beats that drum over and over is Poland.

So but out of the affairs’ of others.

Why? If its in the interest of the US, it'll be done. What happened in Poland after the war didn't interest the US too much. Definitely not worth fighting over.

There’s nothing wrong with the way Poles fought , proud of it as a matter of fact and one more thing, don’t boast that Reagan happen to make the Soviet empire collapse. One speech “Mr. Gorbachev take down this wall” did not do it. Btw he forgot to say please or did he?

No he didn't. The system was unsustainable to begin with and was managed in various phases by complete retards. A little bit of Chinese style leadership and Poland would still be Communist to this day.

Again, didn't give anything away. Didn't babysit you, but hey, that wasn't our job. Stalin said he'd give you elections... What more should the US care? Even if it was rigged from the start, it's your country, you take care of it. US managed to leave the war with a big win, so did the Soviets. Everyone else lost big time. US got their foothold and destroyed the colonial empires, and the Soviets managed to get their foothold and remove a very obvious threat.

You should have fought harder.

Same reminder to a Yank Yalta!!!!!!

The US and Poland had a common enemy, there was no alliance. Should have fought harder. US didn't owe Poland a thing.

Someone asked about when Poland betrayed their allies, and it was pointed out. Why the talk about Yalta? Those are completely separate incidents. Who knows, maybe if they wouldn't have sold out their allies, Yalta may have never happened.
