One source I've read suggests that most/all of these prospective students have the 'karta Polaka' (I don't know how legitimately...)
Also this is maybe part of a long term strategy going back to the 1990s of successive Polish governments... wooing (for lack of a better word) Ukrainians and Belarusians.
Young, smart Belarusians are surely eager to escape the pile o' crap known as Lukashenka and the more who look to Poland (rather than Russia) the better.
I'm starting to notice more Ukrainians again on public transport or walking around as the "pandemic" slowly winds down (was asked for directions yesterday by an obvious new arrival).
Biden is effecting objectively pro-Putin policies which are not good for Ukraine and which ensure that Russian aggression against Ukraine will continue/escalate which means Poland will still be an attractive destination.
So, in a way a bunch of students from these two countries (especially) could help increase Poland's soft power in the region ('could' being the operative word).
Why would they take on foreigners from a foreign country that is not even a part of the EU. Why>?

Short answer: No.
Even the Catalan Independence movement was a mistake, those in charge never intended for things to get so far. For the leaders the idea was to use it to get leverage with the central government so they could get more money and power for themselves - then it got out of control and they're stuck trying to put the toothpaste back in the tube (subject of another thread).
Intense regionalism has always been part of Spanish reality, which is why every single region has a functioning independence movement (Valencia and the Balearics have their own separate from Catalonia's....) but there are unifying forces as well (which is why most of these movements are extremely marginal). Even the Basques haven't been serious about secession for years and years now and the Galicians have never really pushed for anything but a little more autonomy.
I don't fully understand what's going on with Scotland but it seems a little similar to the traditional Catalonia Madrid dynamic - I've almost never heard English people say a bad word about Scotland or Scottish people but this good will is met with puerile, reflexive hostility (without any real desire for independence which is back on the 'not gonna happen any time soon' burner)

Another interesting thing about Spain is regional variation. A friend had been to the Costa del Sol (around Malaga) a few times and then went to Mallorca (Palma) and thought it seemed like a completely different country. Then he went to the Canaries and.... yep, different again.
Even leaving the regional languages aside, the architecture, dress, dialect of Spanish cuisine etc is all markedly different by place. Poland has variation but it's a lot more subtle and you have to know the country and language to perceive it, while in Spain you can't not notice how different the various regions are from each other.

I love Spain beyond all reason but in many ways Poland is more interesting. One of the reasons I've stayed so long was just the pure fascination of seeing a civil society slow emerging from the communist wreckage, not a smooth or linear process at all but one that's still progressing despite PiS's dogged determination to recreate the PRL (down to being sucked into the Russian 'sphere of influence').
Spain was starting at a completely different place after the death of Franco (not really a true fascist at all but something else - his own creation) and has made progress too but is too intent on looking backwards. The last time I was there the soaps were still obsessing about the godammd civil war (they are still not over it at all...). Poland (or at least the younger generations) are moving on while young Spaniards are still fighting their grandparents' battles.

Food / Krakus pickled cucumber (in jar) [31]
Pickled things are popular in Hungary too and compared to Poland I noticed they pickle lots more different things (including paprika stuffed with sauerkraut, cauliflower and even baby melons!.... whole!)
On the other hand there's less variety of tastes (everything I had had a sweet taste like bread and butter pickles).
One place in the market on Hold utca (Moon street) had whole pickled plums but with a clove of garlic where the seed would usually be... weirdly delicious but they had left the market the last time I was there.....

It's really depressing how many people here can't think straight.
The question is not whether you support gay rights or not. The question is do you support tax funded media censoring images?
A singer said a few sentences (that most of the audience probably did not understand) and held a rainbow flag and a person who didn't censor that lost his job.
If you support him losing his job, then you have a PRL-Soviet mentality and want the ruling party to control what is seen on TV.
It's really depressing how many people here can't think straight.

PiS doesn't and wants to destroy any media that is ever critical of it. That is far more PRL style thinking than old men living in the past and writing up lists of traitors.
I don't support the politics of TV Trwam or TV Republika but I would never support initiatives to take them off the air for political reasons. I support free media.

In Poznań, the Młodzież Wszechpolska (MW - All-Polish Youth) hung a banner on a fence by an administrative building of Adam Mickiewicz University (AMU, one of the three leading universities in the country).
It read 'UAM DLA POLAKÓW' (AMU FOR POLES).

Apparently it's upset that so many of the leading candidates for the next academic year (starting in early October) aren't Polish - Ukrainian and Belarusian students are said to predominate among foreign candidates (though the final selection is yet to be made).

A few days ago a Slovak vocalist (Karin Ann) was on a Polish tv morning show as the show was ending she addressed the audience briefly in English expressing support for LGBT(etc etc) people and draped a rainbow flag around her shoulders.
Apparently higher ups were upset that the producer didn't focus on something else or just black out the picture in PRL style... and has been told he'll get no further work with TVP (technically he was a contract and not salaried employee).

konserwowe are in sweet vinegar but I thought kiszone are made in brine, not vinegar.
the difference between konserwowe and kiszone is hard to make in (US) English where both are usually... pickles with no generally accepted way of distinguishing them, like czereśnie and wiśnie are both just 'cherries'....
