History / What do Poles owe to Jews? [586]

Until 1941 it was Poles who were targeted by the Nazis. \Only later Hitler started extermination of Jews,

I'd just like to quote this...

Yeah, funny Israel had no such problem with killing Nazi's. Killing Nazi's and Communists isn't because of their 'political beliefs', its because their are empire building, racist, genocidal murderers.

Could argue these days that this equally applies to Americans...

Was he a communist? if so his murder is entirely justified.

Killing someone for their political beliefs is exactly what led to much of the trouble in Europe during the 20th century.

Travel / What is the ugliest city or town in Poland? [89]

Seaside towns in the UK are in a better state then Sopot.

Bwaahahahaha...oh Hudson, you're such a laugh!

There is nothing in Poland comparable to the rundown hellhole that is New Brighton, for instance.

Or, I would if bmi hadn't cancelled the service

BA picked it up, straight to the hell that is T1 at Heathrow ;)

the aforementioned family friends have made a fortune from running pharmacies and dry cleaners around Bielawa/Wałbrzych

I'm not surprised, people always need services - and I reckon in such areas, there's going to be a fairly high rate of hypochrondria.

Wałbrzych are pretty depressing too.

Dreadfully depressing, I was there and was amazed at just how destroyed it is.

The whole area around Wałbrzych (especially the villages that are at the bottom of the hills) are exceptionally depressing - I've never seen anything comparable in Wielkoposlka.

Language / Is the term 'Polak' derogatory?? [254]

No, I say that provided the word is used to describe only a certain type of Polonia, it is fine.

Exactly my thinking. It is a perfect word to describe racist Americans, who use their vague links with Poland to justify dreadful racism on their part.

Love / Are Polish girls open to foreigners? [78]

No, in general, Polish girls don't like foreign guys. They are brought up to believe that marriage should consist of a relationship between a white man and white woman, both Catholics, God-fearing and so on.

You shouldn't try to approach them, as they might get scared.

History / POLES NOT KEEN ON REPRODUCING? WHY ARE THERE SO MANY GERMANS AND RUSSIANS? [67]

Russians are rewarding couples who have more children. I think this is one idea Poland (and others) in Europe need to seriously consider.

Why on earth would we want the lower parts of society rewarded by breeding more stupid offspring?

The UK shows that if you reward babymaking, you just end up with huge social issues down the road.

Supposedly you need 2.1 Births per woman in Europe to keep sustained population.

Do we really need a sustained population?

And thus makes him appropriate for this thread.

History / Terrible past for the Jews in Poland? [930]

Oh yeah,what was KOP then?Created 9/17/1924.

Not the Straz Graniczna. For a start, the SG is civilian.

Listen,Żydku your kind was treted here better than any other minority but you wanted your own country on our soil.

Treated better? My, if that was the 'special treatment', I dread to think how horrible the II RP was towards others!

And I'd love for you to show me some reliable information that showed that they wanted their own country.

History / Terrible past for the Jews in Poland? [930]

Guests? According to the Polish constitution, they were citizens and entitled to the same treatment as any other ethnic group.

Unless of course, you think that the constitution should be ignored when it suits your own agenda?

USA, Canada / Polish-American criminals [70]

It's the same tired old rubbish - the only thing they've got in life is their pretend Polish identity, so they desperately cling to it and are willing to say/do horrible things to others simply to BELONG.

History / Terrible past for the Jews in Poland? [930]

for that collaboration thingy, why don't you ask Donald Tusk or somebody whose family was in a similar position?

Dunno, why don't we ask your peasant in-laws instead?

More of this very interesting and objective reading about relations between Jews and Poles here

The site claims that members of the Straz Graniczna were victims in Katyn. Given that the SG didn't even exist until 1991, it seems rather...implausible.

Life / 3 reasons why winter is the best time of the year in Poland [58]

This is the funniest damn thing I've read in a long time.

Owning property in the South of France does not make a resident, particularly for tax purposes. Perhaps you ought to look at the French taxation policies and discover why wealthy people tend to leave.

With a 40% upper tax rate on inheritance above 1.8 million Euro (not that much in the grand scheme of things) - wealthy people aren't exactly going to stay tax resident in France.

I grew up in New Jersey dude. My parents had a blizzard that dropped 14" of snow in October last year. I've driven in more snow storms than you ever will. And yes, I've driven in Poland plenty, I just never owned a car there. You GOTTA try and come up with something better to say, Mikey.

Borrowing a car for the day hardly counts as "driving".

14" of snow? That's what, roughly 35cm? Nothing special.

There's a reason why wealthy people live in the south of France.

Wealthy people just don't live in France full stop. There's a reason why Monaco still exists.

My friend is self employed in France, and the taxes are frankly crippling.

This is why conversation is futile with you, man.

Quite obviously, you've never actually driven a car in a proper winter. Or in Poland full stop.

1. I love love love to be uncomfortable every time I step outside.

Uncomfortable? A good pair of shoes and a good jacket and you're sorted.

3. I prefer high risk driving conditions.

You didn't drive in Poland, so what does that matter?

Driving in snow is the most fun anyone can have legally, in my opinion.

News / Polish final report on Smoleńsk aircrash [859]

What's wrong with Polish experts?

The desperate attempts by the opposition to involve foreign experts - and - worse - appealing to the Russian State Duma to help is treasonous at best.

Actually, no. They have copies of the black box data, they actually have precious little to gain by taking the wreckage back to Poland. They've had full access to the wreckage, and as it stands - what use would it serve by having it in Poland?

Tell me - what do you think should be done with the wreckage?

History / Where is Helena Wolińska-Brus buried? [52]

Do you have prove that he was a traitor, you know for the court, stipulations are not counting.

Ask yourself how a former AK fighter could get his children into movies, get a nice big comfortable flat in a decent part of Warsaw - and - even see his children more or less operate freely during the 1980's without being persecuted. Sure, Lech was locked up - briefly - until Daddy got his contacts involved. Jaroslaw was untouchable, or he wasn't there. One of the two.

Ah ? From books, nice !

Books that are referenced by credible historians. You know, people who actually take their subject seriously, rather than fly by night chancers who gain money by writing TUSK BAD.

priceless :D

Easy to say from America, isn't it?

Do I have to remind you that in 1991, there were still significant Soviet military forces in Poland?

Have you considered that somebody may take you to the court for spreading libelous informations?

I invite Jaroslaw Kaczynski to take me to court, preferably in London. I'm sure the Polish media would have a field day when the details of his father's career in the PZPR (after being an AK solider) comes out.

I just say that he is not in position to be judgmental !

I think anyone, from reading reasoned, well researched books can come to the same opinion - that Jaruzelski was an incredibly brave man at the very end. He had no way of knowing that they wouldn't execute him on the spot for treason, nor did he have any assurance that his followers wouldn't turn on him. He also only had Gorbachev's word that they wouldn't interfere - if the hardliners in Moscow had won in 1991, he might very well have been captured and executed.

And to come back to the topic, the ceaseless efforts of the Polish government to put Wolinska-Brus on trial very nicely show that the soviets have not been in charge in Poland for at least the last 17 years.

And others. Aren't they still trying to get Stefan Michnik extradited, as well as quite a few Germans?

Strange how Ironside never criticises Jaroslaw Kaczynski, despite him being a known product of a Communist traitor who clearly betrayed his fellow AK men.

Funny how you're so shy about telling us where you are and how many of the last 10 to 20 years you have been in Poland for.

It's rather obvious that he ran away as soon as he could, isn't it?
