followers of Odin some Baltic tribe and therefore part of the master race construct

Nowt wrong with Odin however you'll find far far more Nazis in r*SSia.

azovites

The faschos were booted out of that a decade ago.

Hardly.

Fascism is

Ideology, I say your worldview is built on the ideological foundation fascism stems from, i.e. Marxism. Progressivism and fascism have the same root.
---
Yes, they do that enthusiastically, demonising whole groups of people.

You are doing the same. Apply ideological templates to the whole group of people but in your biased mind, it is Ok because they are fascists and they deserve it as they are bad people. why are they bad people because they are facists and why they are fascists because they are bad people? It's a never-ending circle.
The question I put to you - are they fascists? Are they not Marxist/progressives with different worldviews and values from yours and you simply look at them through your ideological bias?

If they don't want to be giving Putin excuses for the 'denazification of Poland', they should probably make at least the smallest effort to take down far-right graffiti from the walls. Can't go far in Warsaw without seeing a cross in a circle, aka 'Celtic cross'.

Also, I know the hangman's scaffolds attached to stars of David are just some stupid football rubbish attacking a rival 'Jewish team', but come on, chlopaki. Makes you look like a load of nazis. Do you really want people to see that sh*t plastered all over Krakow, for instance?

Ashamed of nothing, hypercritical of everyone else.

f they don't want to be giving Putin excuses

Putin can make up any excuse he wants, all on his own. He doesn't need anybody's help for this.

I dunno stary, all he needs to do is send Agent Artyom for a quick walk around Warsaw with a camera and then he's got enough ammo to fuel a digital disinfo campaign like the one that worked on so many western dullards re. Ukraine. "My god, there's so many Celtic crosses here! And what does 'Jebac KSP' mean?"

City had better get to work a-scrubbin'.

Tell me you know nothing of russia without telling me....

In modern russian uisage, 'nazi' simply means 'opposes russian revanchist expansion'.... so you're already a nazi to russians.

And russians don't hate nazis... they were bvtthurt that the nazis turned on them and they fantasize about what it could have been like had they stayed together.... see the "comrade Gitler" popadanets series...

It was just a joke, really. About the frankly insane amount of far-right graffiti that's just allowed to stay up on all the walls in Poland. Which is kind of messed up, right?

Mister - I see you are finding all my favorite threads.

"Heil Poland" is good. The ones about littering Poles, and Poles being the most ignorant or rude race on the planet - these are good too. Well done finding them!

But have you seen the thread about Polish teeth? No? Why not?

https://polishforums.com/life/poland-worst-teeth-world-54002/

What about the thread discussing why there is a strong smell of body odor all over Poland?

https://polishforums.com/life/poland-around-horrible-smell-sweat-26785/

An excellent thread.

Yes. Yesterday I thought the guy was genuine and wanted to vent a little bit but also actually learn something. Turns out he's just another troll. Pity.

Ah, well...

What is more genuine than the sad lament of a Brit living in a sea of Poles?

A little of column A, a little of column B.

It's been a mixture of ranting/venting, a bit of trolling (or sparring with flames, depending on how you look it it - it can be quite fun having a bit of a 'battle' with the right opponent) but also exchanging observations/jokes/info about life in Poland and Warsaw in particular. Jon fella is an absolute sage by the way, guessing he's been here decades and knows the place inside out.

I didn't search for those threads btw, I stumbled across them during 'Not posted in'. Not going out of my way to dredge up old contentious threads for aggro, as tempting as that may be.

Warsaw in particular

Why would anyone coming to Poland choose to live in that kip Warsaw? If I lived there, I'd probably hate Poland myself. :D

Jon fella is an absolute sage by the way

Sometimes too clever for his own good. ;)

Yes, like when Torq replied to me in the rotten teeth thread with this:

"Unfortunately for Russia, no matter how few bidets Poles have, how much our arses smell and how rotten our teeth are, you will still lose this war!"

@Torq
Various personal connections, usual kind of story. I used to love it here, believe it or not, about 12 years ago when I first visited. Living here's not quite the same thing.

I come from a big, mucky capital city. I think I'd go a bit bonkers (or more bonkers) in a small one like Poznan or something.

Apologies, I have been "going off on one" a bit.

like when Torq replied to me

1. You omitted the best part about your footballers/hockeyists playing with their dicks.
2. It wasn't me but my evil twin brother Kania.
3. You will still lose this war.

Apologies, I have been "going off on one" a bit.

Don't worry about it. It was fun all in all.

I think it's actually pretty liveable. I used to spend more time there when I had a friend who often traveled and asked me to cat sit. Living there might be different (bigger bureaucracy and different inheritance from rozbiory....) but it's a nice place to spend some time if you don't have a schedule to follow....

My old favorite part was the Jarmark Europa, I was very sad when it was closed.

Customer service was not, however, any kind of concept that meant anything (even in comparison to other cities in Poland) so it had its frustrations too....

Maf I'm always curious how old you are.

Are you closer in age to me and Torq, or to Milo and Novi?

I was born 1989. Got to live for three years in the glorious USSR.

Happiest time in my life.

There are things to like there however I didn't enjoy the year I spent there very much. That's not the sole fault of poznan though.

Warsaw is a big city for me however it's not too big and I've lived in bigger ones. The scale is ok.

Jarmark Europa, I was very sad when it was closed.

Yes. That was an interesting bit of town generally. All the nice places have gone now and been replaced (if at all) by less interesting things.

Exactly what I mean when I say it's becoming more like other European capitals and less like other Polish cities....

On google maps I saw the former wonderfully seedy dworzec wileński in Praga is now a shopping mall.... (head.... desk).

The thing is that post WWII Warsaw was kind of a bland place (unavoidable given the history) without a ton of local character compared to places like Krakow or Wrocław or Łódź and now it's even more so.

Another person taking himself too seriously, or being completely clueless about Poland.

I have been Sieg Heiling here at parties (albeit, the Heil is intended for Elon Musk), for quite a bit. Besides some disturbed individuals that take me seriously, everyone else understands it's a joke - when coming from a Russian that has had family members murdered by Nazis.

There's a f*cking abyss, between your fancy words and real life. Wake up.

If anything, present-day Poland bends over backwards to accomodate Jewish people.
Whether it's a "police state" or not, I couldn't say as I never lived in Poland. My experiences
though with Polish people nowadays whom I've met throughout my life, suggest that Poland
remains an arch-Catholic Conservative country, but scarcely Nazi leaning.

Sounds frankly like rubbish to me.

suggest that Poland remains an arch-Catholic Conservative country

Not especially, even in PRL times Catholicism was largely about opposing the soviet imposed communist government and the church burned through a lot of good will very quickly by getting involved in politics....

Church attendance has not really recovered after the pandemic either.

And Catholicism in Poland has never really been about deeply held spiritual beliefs either - that's a real misunderstanding of Polish realities.

Although I'm not a believer I'm not anti-religion by any means but almost no Polish people are interested in talking about the big spiritual issues and meaning of life and related questions - which is very different form the US where lots of people like to think and talk about those things.
Lyzko  45 | 9993
23 Jun 2025   #179
You're saying then that Catholicism in Poland is/was more of a shield against the onslaught of Communism
post war, than a religious conviction. Is this substantively correct?
mafketis  42 | 11546

Catholicism in Poland is/was more of a shield against the onslaught of Communism

Not necessarily 'more' but that was undoubtedly a factor. The church functioned in a way as a de facto opposition... vehicle.

Lots of people are sincere Catholics but it's not a huge majority.
