The typical Polish look, or all Eastern Europeans

Poleboy765, I think that you look more Russian than Polish (maybe such looks are more common in Eastern Poland). I agree with Ziemowit - there's something "foreign" about your face (I'd say that you look "American" :)).

info on the Kureks?

What kind of info are you looking for?

If you come from the nobilty then that would be the coat of arms of your family:

Yes, I've seen this coat of arms. I'd just like to look back as far as I can with the history of my family. I've read this whole page as well. I love learning is all. Especially when I am proud of my family's nation.

And I also stated before most of our money was lost in the Great Depression in the US,

That's interesting. How did it happen? Did they over-invested in the Roaring Twenties and lost everything in the Thirties?

I'd just like to look back as far as I can with the history of my family.

There are several sites in Polish on the genealogy of the Kurek family name (google: Kurek genealogia). I think you first have to trace back some ancestors who lived in Poland (name, year of birth, place of birth) and then go from them deeper in time.

And yes, the last two picures of yours may reveal some eastern look (Ruthenian-Tatar mix perhaps).

Yes, at one point they owned part of Manhattan in New York City and they had stocks invested. They had immigrated to Chicago, New York, and Wisconsin. My family is quite big as well.

Wow, they seem to have come before Donald Trump then ...

I wouldn't say that but they had money, but things change and such as it did for most people in that era and does today.

If 'Jagger' is not an English name, what name is it?

I thought it might derive from the German 'Jaeger' but apparently having googled around a bit, it seems that it's a medieval English name peculiar to Yorkshire and deriving from the occupation of 'jagger', a type of carter/carrier/hawker. Apparently 'jag' was the local dialect for the load which they carried thus someone who carries a load is a 'jagger'. Fascinating isn't it?

@Poleboy you look a bit Polish around the eyes. The deep set eyes are quite a Slavic thing. Poles tend to have thinner lips though and your hair (which we can see properly in your earlier photos) is typically Irish. Does it go frizzy in humid/damp weather?

one thing I did get from the Irish side is my height. I'm 5'5.

As for height the average height for an Irish man is the same as Poland. Irish guys are not especially short though the women tend to be on the smallish side.

Yes. My hair will get really curly. It starts out wavy, and then gets curlier and curlier like an afro sorta but not like you'd think. You've seen the Jewish afros I'm sure and I don't mean offense by that. Don't mean any stereotypes I'm just saying it tends to be common with Jewish though I don't know if that's what makes it that way. It gets poofy.

Re the Afro - oh I hear you Poleboy. Being a 'lady' I have my hair long and use straighteners so I keep the Irish frizzies under control that way but otherwise I'd look like one of the Jackson Five. If I wash my hair and sleep on it without plaiting it or straightening it first, when I wake up in the morning it looks like something somebody knitted out of weird wool!!

A picture from when I was younger. Might seem funny to some of you but that is okay. I've heard that honestly. That's funny and I go through the same thing with it feeling like some weird wool.

Here we go.

I have found something on my family in midevil times being from northeastern Poland. This area has been known to have been invaded by Russia in history.

Yes, well you have a typical Russian nose and eye shape. This is not a clear indication of Russian ancestry as having ancestry from Ruthenia and perhaps even Belorussian can result in those traits, however I don't see much other particularly Russian features.

Plus a hundred other ancestries, Buryat, Permian, Ostyak, Karelian, Tatar etc - all are Russian ancestry, all have contributd to the gene pool there.

Eastern Europe is the only place on earth where a man can look like a potato and still date a girl who is an 8 or a 9 in the West.

Is it good or bad? Maybe they are in love. In France they call it: la Belle et la Bete. So it's possible in Western Europe, lol.

Look like a potato? I Look like a potato to you? Lol.

No, I don't think he means that you look like a potato! I think he's referring to the fact that many rather, let's say, ordinary looking men from 'the West' find it easy to get an attractive Polish girl who would otherwise be out of their league, because allegedly the Polish girl thinks all Western guys have money. You know that thing which exists the world over, where a beautiful young woman will get together with an elderly potato man if he can keep her in diamonds.

I've seen that in Poland, however not much at all compared to some other places and in far more cases a crusty old Polish guy of deeply unpreposessing physical appearance, offensive personal habits and distasteful outlook on life but a flashy car and the suggestion of large amounts of assets is a magnet to a certain type of pretty young woman (or sometimes pretty young man) who wouldn't otherwise look at him if he were poorer.

The poster who put his picture up just looks like a typical American of his age group - not especially like a potato, though there thousands here in Poland who do look exactly like a giant spud.

Gold diggers is what we call those women. And the old men with the money are sugar daddies. And the potato reference, okay. I was just like huh cause that seemed random but I get what you mean. That's not bad though. Haha. I think Polish women are pretty attractive, and I don't particularly really care for many other countries besides The Slavic ones.

I like gold diggers. At least they leave you alone after a while. (Does the nagging ever end?)

Lol. Every man needs a woman though and not a nag.

Poles tend to be patchy facial haired, or I'd say it varies. Have you guys observed this alot?

Well, as a German, I visited all Central-Eastern European countries-Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria(I know that Bulgaria is in the SE Europe). I haven't visited former Soviet Union's states. What I can say as a generality is that all have more than half of the people brown haired. I think the less blond are the Bulgarians, people there are shorter too. Poles, Hungarians, Romanians, Czechs and Slovaks have almost half of their people with blue/green eyes. Hungarians are quite short though and the Romanians have many fat persons, strangely only men. Czechs and Slovaks have a medium height, Poles too, no one exceeds in how tall is.

Poles have considerable Germanic ethnic stock intermingled with their Slavic roots. This might indeed account for their frequently tall stature, light eyes, squarish face along with solid build and often fair, coarse hair!

27 Jun 2016 #296
I'd say the square face is common with the Polish, but not by any means ALL Poles. Poles seem to recede(hairline) quicker. Most also have the idea that all Polish people have blonde hair and blue eyes. How do you guys feel when it comes to getting along with Russians versus Germans?
Lyzko 45 | 9,438

Well Germans, for either Russians as well as Poles, are fraught with historical baggage! Probably, as Germans admire achievement alone as few other Europeans, the Russians are more admired than the Poles at the present time.

Furthermore, Putin likes Merkel, plus they both speak each others' languages fluently:-)

I was referring to how Poles feel towards the two if they had to chose between the two. So it would be Russians? Say I were to go to Poland, would I get dirty looks or when you guys say I wouldn't stand out do you mean I'd fit in?

Poleboy, nobody would look twice at you, in terms of your features. You'd blend in completely. The only thing likely to make you stand out would be if you dressed very differently. Please don't ask 'how do Poles dress?'!! It varies, same as the USA I'm sure:)

But for example the other day in Warsaw I saw a young guy, about twenty, fair bit of jewellery, bracelets, rings etc with his head shaved on the sides, and then worn long in a ponytail on the top, he had really skinny black jeans and a denim apron (!!!) over them. Nobody was taking any notice of him. I also saw a man with a moustache wearing a skirt in the local supermarket recently!!! Now, another guy had stopped to stare at him in utter disbelief but it didn't kick off or anything, no blood was shed, so I reckon as long as you're wearing trousers of some kind or shorts you'll defintiely be ok!

I'd just like to get an idea. The comment about the guy stopping and staring gave me a laugh. Thank you. I have to say, that is odd that he dresses like that but nothing surprises me.
