pppffff what was all the fuss about, i thought it was my eyesight when i was looking at all the Polish girls in the street etc, now i know its just the Polish look. Jowita are you sure thats you in the picture on your avatar??? i mean should it not be blurred!!!! lol
I understand that a lot of Slavs have high cheekbones, but I am only 1/4 Slavic. I myself inherited them from my mothers fathers side. He was Serbian and his mother was Macedonian. Its funny because I am the only one out of all my siblings with this. I have also seen others of mainly Western European descent with high cheekbones. Possible Slavic admixture? And besides, Eastern, Northern and Western European women are god looking. There is beautiful Polish, Russian, German, French women. But i'll admit from Germany towards Russia has the best.
I am very dark. I have mostly Polish roots, but my mother is half Russian. I am often mistaken for a Latino or as Middle Eastern. The other day, I went into an Iranian store and the person at the counter started speaking Farsi to me. It happens to me all of the time. Anyone who is relatively dark, thinks that I am one of them.
I have dark hair, olive skin (I get a very dark tan in the summer, darker than most people and very quickly) dark eyes and very pronounced cheekbones. Its problematic when kissing friends "hello" as they get in the way. People are always asking me what my origins are. They are perplexed by the answer. Its to the point where its a little bit irritating. No one believes me.
I found a photo of a man from an obscure Siberian tribe and he shares an extraordinary resemblance to my father, yet my father is Polish! Therefore, I probably have this on both sides; its not necessarily a "scratch a Russian get a tatar" situation.
I wonder if other people whose origins are from south-eastern Poland (kresy) share these qualities?
Many Polish women were raped by the Mongol invasion in the 13th century. Perhaps this is where these features come from. I have a friend that has asian eyes, is tall and thin and very straight blonde hair. I think an ancestor of hers was probably attacked by the Mongols, had a child and the traits have been passed down through subsequent generations.
I think there might be a bit of truth in what you say about tatars... I'm Polish and I come from eastern Poland where a lot of girls have features like mine meaning the dark brown almond shaped eyes. I've lived in London for 2years now and must say that the shape of my eyes is a very noticeable thing, which also makes me different from western Europeans. I have a Hungarian friend with same eye-shape though her eyes have blue color, which is also interesting. It is true that looks depend on which part of Poland you are from though it is hard to find any pattern. But somebody was right there: we can distinguish between slavic nations and I can tell Russians apart straight away. In Poland the most ''desirable look'' might be light brown hair, brown eyes and light brown skin colour - it explains why Joanna Brodzik and Marta Żmuda Trzebiatowska are said to be the most attractive and popular Polish actresses as comparing to Małgorzata Kożuchowska they look more Slavic. (when you google the names you'll know what I mean) rgds
Dear Lukasz ;p I'm not saying I'm mongol either ;p just to say that the eye thing is not a common thing in western Europe. There might be more blue eyed blondies in Poland statistically but I don't know why we look at the the dark eyes, light brown hair as both Polish and Slavic. I think same might be in Germany even though people there look very different the blue eyes and blond hair is considered as a germanic look no?
In reply to the many responses about typical Polish looks, my sentiments are the same as many others, in as much as there is a big mix of people in Europe through history. However, in my case with Polish parents, from Torun ex "Thorn" whilst under German"Prussian" rule, I have distinct Germanic looks, so much so, that rather annoyingly when I go abroad, everytime, you can guarantee,Germans approach me and naturally assume I am German. Rather annoying because i was taught from an early age "Rotas Poem" and my father was at Montecassino, safe to say, they get an early rebuke from me in Polish of course, "K---a Pier---a,and you should see their faces "Priceless". Worryingly, whilst queuing I do have a strange urge come over me to step in front of the queue, and I am obesessed with perfection to the point where I am too long doing something.Contrary though ,I do have a sense of humour, for instance,"Why was Jesus not born in Germany???They could not find three wise men and a virgin at the time!!!!There is however a tale to be told in every face, as in my case, my father and mother were typical Polish looking, perhaps I am a throwback from Prussian rule, I do tend to march down the street, and very much enjoy administering direct orders to my sub-ordinates whilst stroking long haired white cats and dreaming of world domination, and you know what they say,"It is a wise man, that knows his father".Joking aside, I think were all in a melting pot, should be proud of our heritage, but realising that distinguishing differences is a catalyst to many of our world problems to this day, with this in mind,I look forward to a day in the future when Germany has been ethnically cleansed of humourless, self divine, thiefs of Polish football players, and a sense of humour has been indoctrinated into its population by us Poles. So you see, your looks are unimportant,YOUR HEART AND SPIRIT IS...................
I don't think there are something like 'typical Polish looks' - in fact they may be deceiving. I'm staying in Scotland - and sometimes I'm taken for a Scot or a French :)
Witam, apologies, I am simply trying to stimulate conversation through contradictory statements and humour, which as the media displays is the most effective method of doing so,this is the " ethos of my epistle".If you cannot understand this or the meaning of the word "humour" this is not my problem.Prosto.
