Search for the civil registration records of Proskau. If they survived the war it's easy to obtain them. Either via the LDS or one of the Polish archives.

Hi

Thanks for that, he died in the 70's in England.

I have found a record of his death but noting more.

Have tried searching on a lot of sites including the one you suggested genes reunited and what I think mgith e the polish archives but don't get any furher than entering the Golasiewicz part.

Do you know how I can contact the LBS inProszkow and ask them? I take it they deal with the bmd records.

Thanks so much for your help!!

I just checked the LDS database. They have the catholic church books for 1757 through 1958, so you could order the relevant microfilms in your local family history center. Regarding the civil registration records, you will need to find out in which state archive they are available.

Why complicated? The baptism record for Jozef Golasiewicz is on film number 2065067, Item 1. You order that film in your local family history centre, and once it has been delivered from Salt Lake City, you are able to take a copy of the original churchbook entry. The latter will usually give you the name of the parents, name of witnesses, time and place of birth, and some other information. Once you know the name of the parents you can go back approx. 20 years (depending on whether Jozef was the first child of the couple or not) and look for their marriage record. That one should either be on film number 2065067, Items 2 - 3, or film number 948568 - provided that the bride came from the same parish as the groom. The marriage record gives you the names of the spouse's parents, and you can go from there.

You can find your nearest family history center here: familysearch.org/locations

Quickly searched for the civil registration records for Proskau. It seems the ones that are relevant for your research were destroyed during the war, as the state archive in Opole (which is in charge here) has only the records from 1874 through 1904 on file.

EDIT: In the previous message I wrote 'go back 20 years'. That's of course wrong. It must read 'one year or more'. 20 years would be for the grandparent of Jozef.
